This video is so fucking genius!! I had never realized the parallels between the two; and when you kept comparing the characters I literally gasped, they’re both unnaturally similar. I’ve also seen that Abuela’s Room in casita is actually the room she shared with her Husband. Both Matriarchs never moved on from their pasts. (Came here from a comment on “Villain of Edith Finch btw :D)

When I saw encanto I thought it shared some similarities with what remains of Edith finch, so I searched it up and found this vid

Love all the connections you found!
Because of how grim the story of Edith Finch was, I kinda made a fun theory about how every member of the Finch family had their own super power, and that their own powers were their curse. Edith Jr. would have had the power to project herself into the perspective of storytellers / writers. When I first watched Encanto, I kept on thinking about What Remains of Edith Finch, especially whenever Mirabel visually saw / experienced the stories / thoughts others were telling her. It's just visual storytelling, sure, but Mirabel uncovering each of her family member's fantastical stories felt just like Edith going through the house rooms.

I watched Encanto recently as well and found it strangely similar to Edith FInch, happy to see I am not just imagining it :D

I think the curse is more a way to turn something tragic into something beautiful and wonderous.

Lol would you believe this video convinced me to both watch the movie and play the game? And I’m such a shitty video game player that it took me FOUR AND A HALF HOURS to beat :)
Having now come back and experienced both WROEF and Encanto, I feel like there’s another interesting reading of Lewis vs. Mirabel. See, I’m one of those people who thinks that Mirabel actually had a gift all along - the stewardship of the house itself (which is why the house didn’t give her a room but also responded more to her than the rest of the family, and why she got a burst of magic when she put the doorknob in at the end). But because her gift wasn’t obvious as a gift, everyone felt like she didn’t fit the family legacy.
Likewise, no, Lewis wasn’t out here sailing houses across the ocean or flying over a cliff, he wasn’t a famous actor or accomplished painter, so he felt like he wasn’t special. But it takes a lot of creativity to come up with an imaginary world as complex and involved as his, even if that creative potential probably didn’t show through in finished projects all that much (possibly ADHD or some other form of neurodivergence?).
What I’m saying is, I do think both Mirabel and Lewis were just as “gifted” as their legendary families, but their potential didn’t present in an obvious or traditional way.

Agreed and I think this theory will pick up steam soon enough (no doubt some bigger channel will clock on eventually). This needs more views and the presentation style was a breath of fresh air.
Kudos for the thought/effort put in dude, keep up the good work!

Pueden ser similares pero encanto está inspirado en 100 años de soledad de Gabriel García Márquez creador del realismo mágico, y fue escrito por charise Castro, lleva en producción mucho tiempo, no creo que se haya basado en éste...

I hadn't heard of this book before, so I'll have to check it out, but from what I'm seeing about the book I see exactly what you mean! I also found interviews with Edith Finch's director stating that 100 Years of Solitude was a huge influence for him as well, which explains it all too.

-let's just say encanto is not its own movie and, instead, headcanonically the ending of the Finch Family Curse! They stop the curse and everyone lives happily ever after. Edie learns her mistake, she starts caring about her children more.
Hypothetically, it would've been flowery enough if it ended with Sam, as she still had a child in Walter.
