Shocked this doesn't have more views/comments. Edith Finch is one of my favorite games, and while I don't agree with all of your interpretations I am just glad to see someone taking the time to talk about it for more than ten minutes. I've gone through a few of your newer vids and decided to check out some older on your channel. Glad I did, definitely earned a sub :)

Yeah some of my older videos I'm not a huge fan of, and I'm sure I got some things wrong here. Thank you so much for giving the channel a chance! I appreciate it :) Edith Finch is a masterpiece! Or at least I think, I need to replay it 😅

i know this video is old, but i discovered your channel and this game is one of my favorites, so i decided to watch your video. this analysis is excellent, and nearly brought me to tears. thinking of edie as an old woman so overcome with grief that she had to turn to delusion is absolutely devastating. it's so clear, though, that i'm incredibly surprised that i didn't notice it on my first or second play throughs. edie couldn't accept that the world could be so cruel and kill her family members so unfairly, so she twisted this tale of the family curse in order to cope. however, this coping method for her only made her life worse, as she was so obsessed with it that she lost several other family members. it's hard not to think of this game as an incredible metaphor for grief, and the harm it can cause if left to the point that edie's reached. the story is so layered and so devastating that i can't help but be in awe of all of it.

Regarding Dawn being Edith's mother - I don't think there's much to discover through the story considering you have to look at the family tree after every story, so you clearly see Lewis, Milton and Edith branching from Dawn + Sanjay.

Edith also inherited her mother's name, and the same as Sam, so I don't think it'd have changed if the baby had been a girl. Also we can probably see the father's not around (Edith going back by herself, the son on the boat by himself), so he had to have been named after Finch.

Yea. Isnt it suggested through the dates on the family tree that Edith has a teen pregnancy at 16-17 , no way she got married in that time or she would have said, and thus no name change.
It's just another "unfortunate" event of the edith family tree, once again caused by situational factors.

I’m not sure how this got rec’d to me but I’m glad I checked it out. It’s been a long time since I played this game, and your analysis brought forward a lot of my old memories and emotions of the story. I really enjoyed the details you point out that I don’t remember finding myself. It makes me want to replay it!

I’m surprised your channel was already this good so long ago. I was expecting way more views/subs. Recently found your channel and so many of your videos are right up my alley. I like the extremely detail-oriented analysis. Love to hear a multi-layered opinion. Looking forward to the rest 👍

Thank you so much! I've only recently gotten to the point where I'm happy with my quality (and I still aim to improve), so it's understandable that a lot of my older content didn't do well. My writing sucked in many of them and my voiceover can be rough at times. I'm happy you're enjoying them :) You're very kind!

bruh why did I never think to use a controller for this game. Realized when you mentioned moving Calvins legs individually. I bet Mollys portion controls way better on the sticks. It felt super jank on keyboard

It wouldn’t have mattered if Edith’s child was a girl. Edie was a woman and so was Dawn. Edie’s husband Sven apparently took her last name when they married. Dawn kept her maiden name and her kids had her last name. I thought all of that was kind of weird.

Ok so I did some very quick research and there’s a possibility they came from the danish island of Læsø, which seemed to be matrilineal for a period of time. Sadly I don’t under danish and the entire source isn’t translated so I’m not fully sure. But it definitely could be possible they kept the tradition after they immigrated in 1937. The practice did seem to end in the 1900s though

Thank you for the video. You found many details I missed and I like your interpretation of the game.
However, I thought your argument for some meanings of the books had a pretty weak base. For example, there is no further hint, that Edie thinks of Molly when she eats. It's great that you put that meaning into the game, but your argument doesn't convince me, to believe it as well.
I like that you're analyzing the books, but there are thousands of books in the game, so that part of the video falls pretty flat, because you don't go into detail. For example: There is no way to talk about Faust in a few seconds. There is a reason why it is the most known work of the most important German author.
Btw. your pronunciation of German names is the worst I've ever heard. So there is an easy improvement you could make.
    So I will subscribe.
    Have a nice day. :)

Hahahaha I know I'm terrible at pronouncing foreign words or names. I'll try to improve.
The books I mentioned were the only ones I were able to connect to the game, or the only ones worth mentioning. I actually went through the entire game writing down every book title that I could, then I researched and if I found something potentially interesting or fascinating, I shared it.
It's impossible for me to argue that any of these book connections that I've presented were the developer's intentions, but I thought I would lay out my interpretation at the very least. For example, I certainly can't prove whether or not Edie thought of Molly whenever she ate or whether that connection was intended, but that was one interpretation that I found fascinating and I just had to share it. In retrospect, I should have made that clearer when I wrote out that section.
Thank you for subscribing and taking the time to comment, I greatly appreciate it! You have a nice day yourself :)
