I’m from the Detroit Metro area and we always called it deep dish pizza. Buddy’s is the only place I’ve seen that makes rows on top. Everyone else tops theirs like a traditional pizza-in layers. It’s all about the bottom crust though.

Detroit style is a really good way to make pizza. It always amuses me when New Yorkers and Chicagoans are at each other's throats about the "right" way to make pizza, meanwhile I get to enjoy this stuff in all its crispy, airy, square glory.
I live near Detroit and my family has always gone to Buddy's as one of our favorite places ever and we had no idea they created the Detroit style pizza! So glad you loved it! The delicious crust is one of the best parts! Lots of people dip it in sauce if they need more :)

Have you ever been to Louie's in Hazel Park? I haven't been in a few years, but they were a spin-off of Buddy's and used to be pretty excellent. Plus, if you order a bottle of Chianti with dinner they let you write on the straw wrapping & they hang it on the walls when you're done.

Jet’s was my favorite for so long! The one around the corner in Dearborn stopped delivering to Detroit so we stopped going. Haven’t had it in like 10 years!! 😩

It's my favorite style of pizza. It has the best of thin crust in the crispy edges, and deep dish in how well the center of the pizza holds up to copious toppings. It's the perfect pizza 😭

Oh my goodness this was fantastic!! ALDI sells dough already made so I used that and cut up mozzarella cheese with sharp cheddar and used marinara instead of crushed tomatoes. This is delicious yummy in my tummy pizza😍😍😍 Thank you for sharing 🤗

Funny, a lot of places around here who serve Detroit style started offering an option for corner lovers by using two half sized pans for a large so every slice is a corner piece. Yeah I thought our pizza was just the default version everyone else in America eats until pretty recently. I never even heard the phrase "Detroit style" in regards to pizza.
I have made this recipe twice now, and both times I was super impressed with how good this pizza is. I lived in Detroit with my family for a few years when I was a kid, and it never occurred to me that this style of pizza might be specific to our area. I always thought it was just the American style of pizza! Living in France, I did not find Brick cheese but replaced it with 50/50 mozzarella and cheddar. I also did not find pepperoni (although I'm sure I could if I went to a big enough supermarket) and used chorizo instead. The flavor and the texture (omg that crust!) brought me right back to my childhood in Detroit! Thanks for sharing this great recipe, Emmy

I live in Windsor across the border from Detroit and we always went to Buddy's for pizza. Windsor itself has its own unique style of pizza as well - mostly because of the cheese, shredded pepperoni and canned mushrooms that are used.

I'm a Detroit(ish) boy and grew up down the street from one of the original three, Loui's (who used to be a cook at the original Buddy's). Great to see it getting more recognition! Try this next time, shred the cheese with a grater, slice the pep as thin as possible and bake it without the sauce, but spoon it on AFTER it's all cooked. So many different ways to make it, but that's my personal fav! Love the videos! Thank you!
Detroit girl here-Emmy you did a great job! One thing for the viewers-if you can't find brick cheese you can use muenster. Monterey Jack would be my third pick. But NEVER mozzarella! We like our sauce thick like you did it and on the sweet side. And we love to dip our crusts in ranch dressing. Go Emmy.... go Emmy... Detroit pizza...go Emmy!

Detroit pan pizza is underrated. I always preferred Detroit pizza to Chicago deep dish pizza. Yours turned out so well. I’ll have to try this recipe.

I used to say I didn't have a type when it came to pizza. I first tried Detroit style pizza at Via313 in Austin TX and I can officially say that Detroit style is my absolute favorite style of pizza lol

Thanks for giving some love to the best pizza on the planet. Detroit Style Pizza! I'm a Detroit(ish) boy and grew up down the street from one of the original three, Loui's (who used to be a cook at the original Buddy's). Great to see it getting more recognition! Try this next time, shred the cheese with a grater, slice the pep as thin as possible and bake it without the sauce, but spoon it on AFTER it's all cooked. So many different ways to make it, but that's my personal fav! Love the videos! Thank you!

Detroit girl here-Emmy you did a great job! One thing for the viewers-if you can't find brick cheese you can use muenster. Monterey Jack would be my third pick. But NEVER mozzarella! We like our sauce thick like you did it and on the sweet side. And we love to dip our crusts in ranch dressing. Go Emmy.... go Emmy... Detroit pizza...go Emmy!
