Wow that’s an amazing and legitimately easy fix. A couple things… there is a very small screw you will need to remove to remove the latch cover from the lever. Also the part you need to trim is just plastic. I found a dremel to be the perfect tool. Seems you only need remove about 1/8 inch. Bravo for a fantastic video!
My wife's 2017 Elantra just started this problem on the left rear door. I learned from watching another TH-cam video, once you have clicked the remote twice to make sure the rear doors are unlocked, slap the car firmly, with an open hand, two or three times, just above the door handle on the outside and the door can be opened. However once you lock and unlock, you have to do it again. At least you can open the door to work on it. Tried several times and it worked every time. There is now a TSB for this issue to extend the warranty for 10 years for these latches on certain manufacture dates. Hyundai TSB 21-BD-006H. New latches have a different part number. Hopefully you won’t have to cut down any parts inside the door. With the number of people having this issue, the company really should just do a recall and fix it properly for free.

Just curious why not go to the other end of the cable and remove some of the length? I haven't done this yet but I need to do it on my 2016 Tucson Limited as I have the issue on the passenger rear door.
So we cant open from the outside either. Does this fix both issues?? But i have released it manually before so i know it'll work on inside. I'm just concerned about exterior opening
I’m not sure, it did work on my mom’s but I heard a bunch of other people it didn’t work for. Check the dealership first, because I heard that they did a recall on it
Thanks for the clear tutorial. Is it the same process for the front driver and passenger doors? Both of ours are having this problem. Crazy there wasn’t a recall like you said. This is dangerous in an emergency situation.
I believe that there is now a recall, so check with a dealership first. The way to check if it’ll work on the front doors, is when you reach through the panel to pull on that cable, if it works by pulling it a bit further than the handle pulls it, then it should work by letting the handle pull further
My sister's 2016 Tucson has the same issue, tried it and it got opened yesterday. I just put some zip ties to mitigate the cable stretching, so that the actuator can easily pull the cable, ot work fine yesterday, tried it several times. But after locking it overnight, the issue ce back this morning, will try some work around before shaving off some plastic in the actuator.
Thank you for this video, it helped me find the cable but it appears the cable has broken. At this point would it be best I take it to a mechanic, a body shop, or a Hyundai dealership?
Thank you for the video. My wife’s 16 Tucson is doing this, however the child lock is on. Will this prevent the ability open the door from the inside with a screw driver?
Unfortunately this was just a temporary fix for me. Since this video though, hyundai has extended the warranty. Does altering this part now void that extended warranty?
No, I believe that the cable stretched which is why I cut the plastic so the handle can pull the cable a little bit further. I believe that if you cut the plastic, it would only be a temporary fix because the cable will continue to stretch. Hyundai did offer an extended warranty on the door, so check with a service center to see if you qualify for free repair. I’m not sure which part they are replacing, but that would be the part to order if they won’t do it for free
I did the same and managed to open the door only from the inside, it also opens from the outside after opening once from the inside. You have suggestions thanks
Joe, do you remember by chance the part # of the part you trimmed? I'm having the same issue. I know you didn't replace that part you trimmed. But if I wanted to replace it, where can I go to find that part? thanks for your help...
You can go to this site to find the parts, there are different part numbers for left and right doors. I hope this helps! www.hyundaioempartsdirect.com/oem-parts/hyundai-handle-inside-83610d3000ns5?c=bD0xMiZuPVNlYXJjaCBSZXN1bHRzJmE9aHl1bmRhaSZvPXR1Y3NvbiZ5PTIwMTYmdD1zZSZlPTItMGwtbDQtZ2Fz
Hello, I have the problem with the driver's door from the outside! Do you think this can be solved in the same way? Anyway, thank you very much for your video.
hi joseph, this is amazing, i followed your video and it worked well, the only thing is i can only open it from the inside after the doors has been locked ( meaning if i locked the car and leave, when i come back, it will not open from outside (handle). but i i access it from the inside, ( by coming in from the other door) have you encountered this? thank you
On my moms car, it worked about 75% of the time from outside if I pulled handle twice but not always. My original concern was having someone stuck in back seat, and I haven’t looked at her car again since making the video. Sorry
Hi Joe, thanks for the great video. it worked during the test run and after reinstalling the door panels, at first, but after using the automatic locks, the lock mechanism seems to negate this great fix. The doors open manually from the inside but hit and miss from outside after locking. It does open after 3-4 pulls. I removed about an 1/8 of material for the door handle so I don't think it's that. Any suggestions? Have you run into this issue? Maybe the lock cable is stretched also?
It was my Mom’s car, and I do not see her that often. She has not mentioned any issues since I fixed it for her, but I’m not sure. I heard that the company finally issued a recall, so maybe check to see if they’ll cover your repairs. If not, I don’t know when the next time is that I would get a chance to look at her car again. Sorry

Like so many before THANK YOU, no doubt dealer or garage it would be way more expensive. So far on my 2016 TUSCON Limited with 110K Km or 68K miles I have had to repair shifter cable assembly, $1200, A/C compressor $1000, all after warranty of course. These cars have NO longevity, never buying a Hyundai or Kia product again!
My Mom’s vehicle didn’t have problems with the front door, so I never looked at how that door operates. Sorry. I would check with dealership first to see if they have a recall, and let them know the issue. If there is no recall, and they won’t fix for free then I would take door panel off and see if by pulling the cable a bit further if it makes the door open. If it does open by pulling cable further then u might be able to use the same fix

I've got an appointment with a Hyundai dealership to take a look at it in a few weeks. Hopefully it's covered under my warranty but we'll see.. I'm going to be really hesitant to spend $600-800 bucks to fix it knowing that it could happen to another door at any time.
@@themagpieswarble can you still open from the inside? Both back doors worked then once locked again stopped opening from the outside however still opens from inside. Once opened from inside the outside works..... until we lock it!!
You have just saved me 500 euros 💶 ❤️ fixed in 10 mins thanks very much
I'm in the UK and have the driver door not opening from the outside. Just to draw attention to Kevin Murphy's post below drawing attention to a Technical Service Bulletin issue July (he says very recently) and its reference TSB# 21-BD-006H. I'm hoping that the bulletin will also be issued in the UK and the cost of repair covered, but I'm sure if they can get away without covering repair costs they will...... Thanks to the poster for the video. I gave up working on cars 30 years ago but for this problem and at the prices charged, I'll be picking up my tools again if necesssary ......
Excellent info! Followed your advice and it was fixed very easily. Merry Christmas!!
Do you know the name of the saw/tool he used? I'm going to try to do it myself, but I need the name of the tool he used to saw/shave it down.

Thank a lot for this share, it works perfectly Joe. So many many thanks to you :)
Thanks for that great Diy Video. I just watched it and now be able to help a friend with his Tucson.
Thanks Joe this worked great. It just happened to us. Took all of two minutes.
Well explained and demonstrated. You are a legend!
Worked perfectly.... Thanks so much for the quick and easy fix. You Rock!!
Theirs actually and extended warranty/tsb on the door latches them self for this issue. Not cable issue. It’s the latch them selfs wear out. 10yr unlimited mileage warranty
worked for me on inside handel but after doors locked the outside handel doesnt work, only inside
Just curious why not go to the other end of the cable and remove some of the length? I haven't done this yet but I need to do it on my 2016 Tucson Limited as I have the issue on the passenger rear door.
Thanks for posting this. Had the exact same issue.
Hi Joe, just for clarification is this fix for when the doors won't open from the inside and the outside or just from the inside?
Looks like from both inside and out because he had to use a small screw driver to open it from the inside.
So we cant open from the outside either. Does this fix both issues?? But i have released it manually before so i know it'll work on inside. I'm just concerned about exterior opening
I’m not sure, it did work on my mom’s but I heard a bunch of other people it didn’t work for. Check the dealership first, because I heard that they did a recall on it
Best video I saw yet thank you
Thanks for the clear tutorial.
I’d try the dealership first, because they did finally issue a recall on this issue. See if they’ll cover it under the recall before going elsewhere.
Thank you for the video. My wife’s 16 Tucson is doing this, however the child lock is on. Will this prevent the ability open the door from the inside with a screw driver?
I believe that it won’t open with the child lock on
Excellent video. All the necessary info in a reasonable length video. Nice video editing.
Thanks a lot for making this video! 🙏🏼
Brilliant video, thank you so much, saved us a lot of money! 👍
Thanks man, I fixed mine, from Australia...
Unfortunately this was just a temporary fix for me. Since this video though, hyundai has extended the warranty. Does altering this part now void that extended warranty?
Mine won’t open from the outside either. Will this fix that problem too?
Joe, thanks for responding so quickly. Do you believe if I were to change out this part that it would solve my problem?
No, I believe that the cable stretched which is why I cut the plastic so the handle can pull the cable a little bit further. I believe that if you cut the plastic, it would only be a temporary fix because the cable will continue to stretch. Hyundai did offer an extended warranty on the door, so check with a service center to see if you qualify for free repair. I’m not sure which part they are replacing, but that would be the part to order if they won’t do it for free
What about the outside handle? Inside trimmed loke this video but my outside handle has issue opening door
i guess Problem is cable get stretched and longer in time. isnt there any option to shorten the cable
I thought the same thing, but haven’t needed to try it.
I did the same and managed to open the door only from the inside, it also opens from the outside after opening once from the inside. You have suggestions thanks
You're exactly right; this only works for the internal. The external will fail after engaging and disengaging the lock.
I am in the same situation. Any solution for this issue?
I have a 2017 Tuson. Same problem but the drivers rear door. Went to the Hyundai Dealer and they said it was covered under warranty. 30,500 miles.

Hello, I have the problem with the driver's door from the outside!
Do you think this can be solved in the same way?
Anyway, thank you very much for your video.
I’m sorry, I do not know.

Thank you for answering
Love it. Having the same problem. Will try it today. Thanks man.
Do you know what other tool/tools you can use if a person doesn’t have what you used to saw down the metal piece so the latch could extend ?
It’s only plastic, so you can use a knife or snips if you wanted.
@@josephlombardo830 man thank you lol explained perfect
hi joseph, this is amazing, i followed your video and it worked well, the only thing is i can only open it from the inside after the doors has been locked ( meaning if i locked the car and leave, when i come back, it will not open from outside (handle). but i i access it from the inside, ( by coming in from the other door) have you encountered this? thank you
On my moms car, it worked about 75% of the time from outside if I pulled handle twice but not always. My original concern was having someone stuck in back seat, and I haven’t looked at her car again since making the video. Sorry
@@josephlombardo830 many thanks for you kind reply.
Thanks for the post..worked like a charm
Guys, does it open from inside when you push the unlock button from remote???
Sorry
@@josephlombardo830 Sounds good. Thanks
So helpful, and thorough!
Hello, what can I do if it’s on child lock ?
***THIRD UPDATE FOR CANADA OWNERS: after my initial ‘fix’ that didn’t work, I called local Hyundai dealers parts department to see replacement part cost was AND parts department told me there is an extended warranty for replacing faulty rear door mechanism CHECK WITH YOUR LOCAL DEALER ** Update initial fix, listed earlier my rear door will open after a couple pulls from inside BUT when I lock and unlock the car the rear door doesn’t open, I have to reach inside and pull the handle from inside, any ideas Tia**
So helpful and it was relatively easy, I used a dremmel to take down about 1/4” and reassembled the door and ‘done & dusted’!!
Great vid mate saved me hundreds!! I've now got a similar problem with the front door do you think it will be the same fix?
My Mom’s vehicle didn’t have problems with the front door, so I never looked at how that door operates. Sorry. I would check with dealership first to see if they have a recall, and let them know the issue. If there is no recall, and they won’t fix for free then I would take door panel off and see if by pulling the cable a bit further if it makes the door open. If it does open by pulling cable further then u might be able to use the same fix
Hello Joe female here so I'm a little disadvantaged when it comes to fixing things especially car things but with the price of everything after covid and now a war I would really like to fix this myself I'm just worried if I take everything off I won't remember how to put it back on🤪I can't see where you shave the part exactly, I'm having the same problem with my Hyundai Elantra front passenger door which only opens from the inside and back behind the driver door doesn't open from inside or outside I want to fix this myself but I'm a bit worried I don't know which part to shave thank you from Sydney Australia ❤
I wish that I could lend you some help, but I'm not sure if the doors are the same as what the Tucson has. I hope that someone helps you figure it out.
Thank you sooo much!! Saved me $80
Hi! Do the locks still work? Thank you.
This is a temporary fix to open the doors again when the handle won’t open the door. It doesn’t change anything with the locking mechanism, so locks should still work as normal
hi. does this trick works if the door latch only gets stuck after I lock and unlock the car?
If so, I will try harder to pop the mask off the door.
Try to pull the cable with the screwdriver when it’s stuck. That will let you know if it works.
@@josephlombardo830 i can open the door with the screwdriver every time it gets stuck. and it gets stuck when i lock the car (or when it locks itself while driving). Since it costs basically nothing, I'll try my best to get the mask off and apply the fix.
Sawed it down and still won't open after I lock the door again then unlock. Should I just shave it down more
If the dealership won’t fix it, you can try a bit more plastic off of the handle. If I ever get a chance to look at my mom’s car again, I might try to see if there’s a way to shorten the cable
Thanks Joe, this is great!
