Marvin John Heemeyer (October 28, 1951 - June 4, 2004) was an American automobile muffler repair shop owner who demolished numerous buildings with a modified bulldozer in Granby, Colorado in 2004.
Heemeyer had various grudges against Granby town officials, neighbors of his muffler shop, the local press, and various other citizens of Granby. Over about eighteen months, Heemeyer secretly armored a Komatsu D355A bulldozer with layers of steel and concrete.
On Friday, June 4, 2004, Heemeyer used the bulldozer to demolish the Granby town hall, the house of a former mayor, and several other buildings. No one else was injured or killed, in part due to timely evacuation orders.

"If god doesn't want me to do it, god will make someone stop me." Might be the scariest sentence I've heard this year holy fuck
This is a shockingly common behavior among people who are about to do something drastic. It might be god, it might be fate, it might just be the universe, but often people start looking to a higher power to stop. The irony is that, often, they don't actually need a higher power, they just need a Human being who cares about them. Unfortunately, it's usually the lack of such a person that pushes them towards drastic action in the first place.
@@the_mad_fool To be fair, he showed multiple people around his shop with the Killdozer and not a soul even raised a eyebrow. If I was Marv I would start thinking some higher power was pushing me to raise hell.
Thats just a might makes right statment..
You missed a very important part. His father’s death was not a contributing factor to his actions but part of the plan, as he’d sold everything off, given ALL the money to his dad, and after his dad died all the money was Willed to Marv’s brother and sister.
This, legally speaking made the money untouchable and exempt for any prosecution or liability. He and his father had a plan.
A nice little Deadman switch at the end. He breaks it and they still have to pay for it.
Furthermore, Marv waited until he knew that the money was in his sibling's hands so nobody could attempt to intercept it because the rampage hadn't happened yet.
He laundered all of that money through his family before anyone knew what was about to happen. He may have been gone and crazy, but he wasn't stupid.
The Thompsons, with the help of lawyer McClelland, seized Marvin's houses in Grand Lake, which he gave to his friend Bruno Schroeder. McClellan knew too much. The Thompsons killed him in 2018.

About a year ago, I went to Granby, CO for a little vacation with some friends. In the town, they have a little cafe/book store, and on top of one of the bookshelves was a book about the Killdozer incident. It was advertised with a little sign saying "THIS HAPPENED HERE!"
Did you buy it

The author of this book is Brower, the Tosmpsons' lackey and one of Marvin's murderers.
Can such a scoundrel Brower be objective?

And everything could've been avoided if he'd sold the property to Cody for the originally agreed to amount instead of constantly upping the price. Or if he'd installed a proper septic tank.

The reason Marv upped the property price on Cody was because Cody was having the area re-zoned which skyrocketed the value
The sad part was I didn’t find any of those prices on that property that outrageous. Maybe hide sight 20/20 but that town is almost an extension of Winter Parks at this point
So basically Cody did it to himself for the most part
Do you please have the source for that?
@Sir_Bucket That's kinda just what happens when you do things with property do you need a source for that?
No, the value didn't increase because the re-zoning had yet to even be approved, nor was there any guarantee that it would be successful. The reason for the increase was Marv being a petulant man child.
Killdozer was a movie from the 70/80s. A dude was working one one and he hit a meteorite with it. It came alive and started killing everyone
"Factually incorect" and "Marv was a hero, marv did kill marv" those two lines sent me .

Will point out Cody agreed to but the land at Marv's price, then agreed to but again at a nearly doubled price
But then Marv raised it again for no reason
A good movie with the same kind of theme is law abiding citizen with Gerard Butler except more violent. But yea a story to learn that you can only push people so far before they break.
That's a picture of one broken man in 46 mins in. Really sad. And mix in religious zeal and delusion, you get really insane results.
Bricky-- you are probably thinking of the 1995 San Diego Tank Rampage with the "Technical Problems," where the dude got the tracks stick off the ground trying to cross a highway median...
Incoming unpopular opinion:
While Marv definitely got screwed, he's not entirely blameless. He inserted himself into this community, messed up the plans of a prominent local figure, and then did a shocked Pickachu face when that blew up in his face. It definitely was shitty of him to agree to sell the land and then do a massive price hike at the last second. Yes, the town did worse by him, but he's hardly blameless in the whole mess.
Also, it's a bit hard for me to feel bad for what is essentially a fairly wealthy dude who was throwing a hissy fit over not having his way. This is a person who can toss around tens if not hundreds of thousands of dollars. In the end he would up selling the land for almost half a million (which he initially bought for 50k). The field upon I which I grow my fucks is pretty fucking barren for someone in that position. It's not like the town forced him to sell for pennies or something. He wasn't reduced to poverty. He was just a bit less wealthy than he might have been if he'd gotten his way.
There was nothing stopping him from cashing out a LOT sooner, not wasting 10 years of his life in a pissing contest with the locals, and just snowmobiling into the sunset. Instead, he was being a petulant little asshole and drove himself nuts over it.
Yes, he was wronged. But he's hardly a symbol of the little man pushing back against the injustices of the world...
seethe cope and mald Granby-ite
He also almost killed a ton of innocents, such as a building full of children. So. Yeah not a great guy.
Why do you think hes a libertarian hero. Tbese people are all about "fuck you i already got mine" they are the moderatley wealthy pricks that toss around what little power that gives them then cry like babies when someone puts them in their place and dares to treat them the same as everyone else. All he had to do was gollow the rules.. rules which wherent in any way onerous or harmfull. Basic shit like properly pulling permits and ensuring septic systems are done correctly..ya know. Basic health and safety that legitimately fucks over other people if not done right.
He did not kill anyone, because the killdozer was very slow, there would be plenty of time to evacuate, so no, he did not almost kill children
@@victorpedrosoceolin3919 “Heemeyer then advanced on Granby Town Hall, which had been hosting a story hour for children in its library when the rampage began. All occupants were only evacuated moments before Heemeyer reached the building, an hour after the rampage began.”
Rain is actually good against dust. At factorys with alot of dust, they usally actively spray water to keep the dust down
This is like an in real life fucking kaiju movie but instead of a monster there's a mech. Like reverse pacific rim
Since DK skipped over it a little bit, the whole reason Marv kept increasing the price was because of the illegal zoning and purchasing of the land around the property. Before he knew that the zoning was illegally done by the city he had found out that it was increasing in value due to the rezoning and knew for the batch plant to be built they would eventually have to buy his land. Of course that's when the city started hitting him with the fines in an attempt to get him to sell for cheap or drop his suit. The price increases also weren't all at once, it was over the course of about 6 or 7 years ending around 2003 as the land around him was being bought up and improved.
I really do hope to see the odd Detective Ridiculous return in occasion. The dynamic the crew has makes everything they talk about infinitely more interesting.
What a great topic to finish it up for the time being though.
Next April Fools, they'll have a secret episode on the Sins of Shy

Pretty much. I get the beaucrats and nepo babies suck. But he went into a building that had kids, granted his machine was slow as balls. But all in all, if his dozer was faster, It would have flattened and harmed children.

50:26 Bricky... bro why you gotta spoil it? Some of us literally never heard this story before.
A Johnny Silverhand approved Detective Ridiculous.
Throughout the movie you just show the city beating down Marv. Make the audience hate the powers that be that oppressed him. Make the audience WANT Marv to get in the Killdozer and bring revenge to those who wronged him.
Then the rampage wins. Let the audience enjoy it for a brief moment as he begins taking revenge on Cody and the plant. Then show all the unintended victims. Show the people who lost their jobs trying to feed their family, show the children who lost their homes to his rampage because he found fault with their parents, show the kids traumatized because they can't even feel safe in a library.
Make it a tragedy. We shouldn't root for anyone in this story, but let us think we should root for Marv until we see the reality of his actions.
It's a good thing I like rewatching episodes because the Detective Ridiculous episodes were some of my favourite on the channel. Sad to see you go, but love to watch you walk away ( •̀ᴗ-)
Honestly, I can see his girlfriend and dad as being his rock and reason to keep on going, some minor voice of reason on keeping that hyper-focus voice of chaos shoved into the back corner of his mind.

I don't think anyone was great in this story, but Marv was no saint.
exactly. so many people that cover this leave that part out so he could look like a hero.
Three quick corrections there friend. 1) He was pumping his waste into a completely legal septic tank.
2) He applied to get hooked up to the system, but then backed out when he was given the run around for months by the city council (which since he backed out improperly he was fined heavily for)
3) While the hook up was free he would have to pay to install the proper infrastructure. There were two options. He could either build out to the main line (which would've cost hundreds of thousands and bankrupted the business), or he could get permission from a neighboring business to hook into their line (a much cheaper option) well the neighboring business had been looking to aquire the lot he bought at auction so there was some bad blood there. They gave him the run around as well. Knowing every day, the city would levy another fine.
@@horrorfan117 1) No he was not. 2) They offered to pay him to have it hooked up, how is that him getting the run around? He simply refused to do it. 3) No, he was not. I feel for him to be stuck in a bad situation, but he did buy the property and ran a business on it for years. Didn't he also have the option of building a regular septic tank on his property? Hell I wish I could get into such a bad situation where I'm offered 10x what I paid for a property to be able to walk away. The dude had several opportunities to get out, like really good ones... if only someone would be so "unfair" to me.
I hate to be a downer, but this is missing a bunch of information we now know, and includes a number of myths that have grown into a hagiography of Marvin. Even taking it at face value, this guy paid a bit over 45,000 dollars for a piece of property, ultimately got paid 400,000 for it, and decided to do an admittedly very ambitious rampage that necessitated an evacuation order being given to an entire town, so hard done by was the guy who was mad that the Docheffs built their batch plant across the street.
