Well, so it seems phase 3 will be really stetched out, so you know what would be a good video in the meantime? A rank of phase 1 and 2 not only with best books but an analysis of which phase worked best in terms of villains, plot and characters.
Great vídeo as always, my friend. Keep up the good work a may the force be with you!

Great video as always. I find phase 2 very uninteresting. I find phase 1 much more appealing.

Cataclysm was my favorite of phase 2 as well. It’s unfortunate Lydia Kang isn’t writing any more HR for phase 3, hopefully she can work on a stand alone of some sort.

I like the characters in Cataclysm and Convergence, especially the royal heirs.

This was a fun video. I’m very behind but so far I much preferred Path of Deceit to Convergence

Loved Cataclysm and Battle of Jedha. Just started Path of Vengeance so I cant rank it yet. Overall a very strong phase that is set on a much smaller scale but is more narratively cohesive than phase 1 imo. Cant wait for phase 3!

Wow our rankings are very different. I really love Phase 2, Marda Ro is easily in my top 5 Star Wars characters, and I think in general it tells a better and more interesting story than Phase 1, however, I do think it's riddled with a couple major issues(production-wise and story-wise) that held me back from enjoying it more.

Hi Jonathan! I love the Star Wars movie and the tv series like Mandalorian. Haven't watched Obi-Wan. The truth is, because of the SW Universe is so expansive and the number of novels/books that came out ever since before, I'm kind of intimidated to start reading the novels. I also played the MMORPG, Star Wars The Old Republic just to have a sense of what Star Wars was before the actual movie timeline and that kind of intrigued me. In any case, my question is not really related to the High Republic but, what book can you recommend for someone starting to read the SW novels? Should I start something like based on timeline etc? Thanks :)

There are so many places you can start depending on your tastes.
If you want prequel era content: Master and Apprentice by Claudia Gray is excellent in Canon. Darth Plagueis is excellent in Legends.
If you want Pre-Movie Content, the High Republic (Light of the Jedi as the starting place) is excellent. For Legends, most people love the Darth Bane trilogy.
If you like the Original Trilogy, most people start with Heir to the Empire from Legends and read that trilogy.
If you like the Sequels, try Phasma or Bloodline
If you like the Clone Wars or Rebels, read Dark Disciple and A New Dawn respectively.
Hope those are good starting places. I hope you enjoy reading the Star Wars books.

Hey I’m just wondering how you read so fast, I’m a really slow reader when it comes to books and novels.

It’s a combination of scheduling my time and also learning how to speed read. During the school year, I dedicate 1-2 hours a night for reading. During breaks, I dedicate 3-4 hours for reading, and that gets a lot done. Depending on the book, I read 50-100 pages an hour, so some books I fly through and others take me a couple of days.

Do you think we will get flashbacks in phase 3 to phase 2 ? Cos we saw how the path of the open hand became the closed fist. But we still don’t know how they became ‘ the Nihil ‘

Either flashbacks or someone will talk about it. I can see Marchion Ro having a conversation being like “Did you know how the Nihil first came into being?”

I'm just finishing phase 1. From the review it looks that phase 2 is generally better, am I right? Less up and down in quality compared to the previous phase. (I just read the adult and YA novels)

The highs of phase 1 are much higher than phase 2, and also told stories I like better. But the lows of phase 1 are lower to me than phase 2. Phase 2 was much more consistently “good-great” whereas phase one was either “meh/bad-amazing”. I’m still formulating how they compare, might compare phases eventually.

@@jonathankoan that was really clear, thank you! Finger crossed for phase 3 then. (And maybe for more novels of such quality set during other star wars eras.)

Can I skip phase 2 and then read phase 3 if I only care about characters from phase 1?

    • @jonathankoan
      @jonathankoan  ปีที่แล้ว +1

I won’t be able to answer that until Phase 3 comes out, because I’m unsure of how connected Phase 2 and 3 are. Theoretically, it’s possible, but I always recommend reading the adult books from phase 1 and the adult and YA from phase 2.

Thanks for explanation. In that case I’m probably going to ask again when phase 3 come out since I am still going to wait for them to be translated to my first language
