This is awesommmmmmmmme I used to have dreams about walking into a shop and seeing all these books. I have collected them all now, and am grateful none of them have the Legends banner
This is fantastic, thank you very much for sharing your EU collection with us! I just started collecting EU & canon books this year so I only have a few on my shelves and have only read a couple. But I'm loving the adventure!
Haha I've been watching his videos for a while. I remember watching some of his earlier videos back in June or July and due to it I bought all the eu novels that exist (minus the new 14 he talks here by Mr Anderson) probably because they are young adult. TKS for the video
I just started reading again (I'm 32 so when I said "again" I mean like since I was in primary school) and I did the thrawn trilogy now I'm on to the duology. I'm really enjoying reading and I've watched a lot of your videos for recommendations. It seems like the EU has more "meh" then great. I'll do the "great" ones first then go to canon then see where it takes me. Anyways, thanks for the videos, they are really helpful.
The jealousy i have of you finding all the young jedi knights books at once. 🤣 finishing the OG Thrawn trilogy right now as my first dive into star wars books, with Bane on deck after. Cant wait
It is so funny that the ones you said you didn't enjoy so much are the ones I haven't ever read because they seem boring! I will eventually read them all, but at this stage agree with your judgement except of course Shatterpoint. I loved that, but I do understand your criticisms of it.
An excellent video. I loved the analysis of The X-Wing series; the comparison between The Rogues and Wraiths, and how you can draw parallels between that series and the Thrawn and. Academy trilogies is absolutely spot on. Please include your thoughts on the “Tales” collections (some of my favourite EU literature) in a future video when you read them.
The X-Wing books are some of my favourite Star Wars novels of all time. I actually just finished reading Kenobi last night, after I got it for my birthday last month, and I really enjoyed it. I think I'm going to have to reread it at some point to let myself sit with it a bit more, because it's not what I was expecting from a Star Wars novel. I did like it though.
I've lived in germany for 7 years now. After 2 years i was pretty ok speaking german. Wanted to read silmarilion in german to expand my vocabulary. I was so wrong 😂😂😂. Tolkien used fancy old words to say basic stuff like touching, going, etc. So i struggled a lot and didnt get most of the book. If you're learning german, reading a book in german is harder than speaking. The amount of words used in a normal conversation vs a book is not nearly close. Anyway, I wonder where i have to go to find some Legends books in germany, all the bookstores have pretty much only canon books plus the most popular legends books which i already have. My only option seems to be Amazon sadly. Thanks for the guide, I spent a lot of time as a kid reading legends content in the wookipedia, but i never found any books at the store, so I get to start my quest 20 years later...
Nice collection, The Bounty Hunter wars was my favourite series of Star Wars books. LOL Our opinions on the book in compared to the Disney plus series is totally reversed. The one book that I really didn't care for was Vector Prime of the New Jedi Order series.
As Book Depository is closing down, I've ordered 9 Star Wars EU novels including The Hand of Thrawn duology simply because how much good I heard of it.
Hi Jonathan, just got into star wars books and your videos are a great help! I have 2 questions you might be able to help me with.. as a rookie I thought it is good to start chronologically and bought revan. Do I have to get familiar with KOTOR before reading ? 2nd question would be which Thrawn book to read, now that the Ashoka show will air soon.... Keep doing what you are doing, greeting from Germany!
Regarding Revan, you should either play the game, or watch the cut scenes, because it is set very soon after the game. For Thrawn, there are several possibilities. The most important are the canon Thrawn trilogy, and the legends Thrawn trilogy. There are several other Thrawn books involved, and other series with him, but that gets more convoluted and time-consuming. The six books I mentioned would be my recommendation.
Did you ever read the Maul: Shadow Hunter book by Michael Reaves? Unless I'm mistaken, you didn't talk about it during the video so was just curious about your thoughts on it.
If I was making the video today...I would not be giving him a shoutout. But his discussion of this book was in the news a lot when I filmed this video.
I liked the character in the game, and even in the beginning of the book, but the overall book didn’t work as well for me. I enjoyed the other Drew Karpyshyn books a little bit better.
@@jonathankoan I'm back after 10 hours of listening to the audiobook! I certainly recommend it, thrilling action sequences and very cool writing of Starkiller and Juno. There are big characters like Leia and Yoda at times but they're treated as background characters which could put some people off. But it's such a great way of bringing some sense of closure to the story! (Even if technically it was written with a 3rd installment in mind)
How do you find the time to read all of these book, and/or are you as fast at reading as the Millennium Falcon? 🙂Really enjoy your channel on TH-cam. Introduced me to the wonder that is Legends and Canon. Without your channel, I don't think I would've started reading the High Republic. 🙂
Oh no! That’s one of my favorites! I have a hardcover and a paperback. The paper back on I lent to a friend and has not made its way back to me, which is fine,. The hard cover is on my shelves, I just forgot to grab it evidently. I wonder why I forgot it.
I one day will have this much EU Star Wars books. My collection of books mostly consists of non-Star Wars books mostly religious/mythological and esoteric subjects. But once all the Star Wars books I bought get here I'll have. 1. The thrawn trilogy(finished Heir and wow just wow such a priceless gem I'd have spent $500 dollars just to read that thing) 2. The Bane Trilogy 3. Revan(I've never cared for the second Kotor so for me this book is the epilogue) 4. The Han Solo trilogy And the Revenge Of the Sith novelization. Oh by the by do you have any of the Kingkiller chronicles by Patrick Rothfuss? The Name of the Wind and The Wise Man's Fear?
@@jonathankoan I think you'll definitely find Rothfuss' writing style fascinating as heck. Once you start(much like a Timothy Zayn novel) you'll be hooked and it'll be hard to put them down atleast I think lol. The 3rd book of the series Doors of Stone is supposedly with the Editor and has a release date but there's still no announcement.
Nice Video, i don't have 1 Legends book. I listened to 4 as audio books.I must say I just started reading books. So you speak german. Wann kommt das erste Video in dem du nur Deutsch redest ? I'm from Germany 🇩🇪
@@jonathankoan Awesome! I graduated in 2012. I lived on Dorm 10 on the Circle (no longer exists). The campus has changed so much since then. I lived across the hall from fellow TH-camrs Nick and Ian (Mister Epic Man; “How Animals Eat Their Food”). I’m enjoying the content. Keep up the good work. 😄👍🏼
You’ve certainly heard this question before but does someone need to read all the New Jedi Order books or can I just read a handful of them and which ones?
Your Revan opinion isn't as controversial as you believe. Many think it was a disappointing continuation of the Knights of the Old Republic games. Especially with how it handles KOTOR2.
Oh wow, I disagree with a lot of these opinions haha. I find that Rogue Squadron is solid, but I find that Wraith Squadron is so much better. I feel like Aaron Allston’s just better at writing characters than Stackpole, and his prose is a lot better than Stackpole’s, imo
