One of the coolest novels
excellent video - i agree about batman resurrection - great stuff
“Best Star Wars book I’ve read all year.” (Posted Jan 3, 2025) lol
I'd like more videos on sci fi and especially indie and self pub sci fi. Thanks for all your great videos and your great channel! I look forward to more. Cheers! 😊🎉
Great 👍🏻 video as always! Keep it up good sir. 🤟🏻.
No lie I read this about it 24 years ago. Man I’m getting old lol. A great book! I still remember that ending.
Haven't read it but it's one of the essential legends books I do plan to read
If you like this book I highly recommend: The Wrath of Darth Maul and Maul Lockdown.
Darth Maul Shadow Hunter has an amazing audiobook read in its entirety by the voice of Maul himself Sam Witwer. Even if you’re not a fan of audiobooks I highly recommend checking it out. Sam does a great job elevating the material and makes it one of the most memorable Star Wars audiobooks. I’d love to see him do more especially The Force Unleashed and Maul Lockdown.
What’s the best place to buy new Star Wars legends books outside of amazon? Cause I noticed on amazon when I was just browsing looking at what legends books they have.I couldn’t find new versions of Kenobi or Rouge Squadron and some others in their mass market paperback forms. So just for future reference I was wondering if there’s any other good reliable sites
You won’t really find the older books brand new anymore without the “legends” banner in mass paperback. But if you don’t care about that then I’d say collect the Essentials Legends collection. They’re bigger pages/font and acid free (no discolored pages over time) if you get the American editions. They’re sold pretty much everywhere atm.
@ I don’t really care about the legends banner but when it comes to the legends essential collection I don’t actually like the size of them. I’ve always preferred smaller books like the size of the mass market ones
I don’t know how people read that quickly. It took me 2 full weeks and over ten total hours to read this. You read this in 3 hours?? How do you even know what happens if you read it that fast
Yeah 3 hours is insane. This is an 8-10 hour read for me too. So at best I could read it in a day or day and a half or if I’m taking my time over 3 nights. I try to do 100 pages a day minimum. I don’t know how 3 hours is even possible, definitely jealous lol.
yeah I read this book in within a week realy fast book to finish!
I just finished this novel a couple of days ago, and I agree with your thoughts! I loved the book and had a blast reading it. It just might make it into my top ten. Which do you prefer? Cloak of Deception or Darth Maul: Shadow Hunter?
Dude, your eyes are going to fall out with that many books
Crazy big haul! Good luck finding room for all of them. I’m like you and read all of the Jedi Apprentice series long long ago, but I never read any of the Jedi Quest books.
I HIGHLY recommend Star Wars: A Pirate's Price as an audiobook. Jim Cummings reads the entire book as Hondo Ohnaka. It made the book even more fun.
Do you sell on eBay?I'm amsuming you have to purge some of your collection
@@patrickt6642 not really. I get rid of maybe a few books a year. Mostly I just keep adding to it. I have a dedicated room just for books (don’t really collect other things)
@jonathankoan I collect dvds and books so because of limited space have to purge collection.Have to say you have impressive collection.
Great books, good luck. I have most of the Grand Tour books, and have decided to read through in a certain Chronological order by character, just finished the first three Powerstat, Privateers, Empire Builders. Now off to Mars (you loved) which I have had on my TBR for 20 years at least, LOL. By the way its Moonrise then Moonwar.
I'm sorry, but, after I heard you say "DS9 is my least favorite Star Trek series", I knew none of your recommendations would be relevant to me. Have a great Star Trek life, but I will now close the video.
Well, I do love a TON of the DS9 books, and some of the characters in the books like Bashir and Garak, are favorite characters of mine. Hope you do continue to read Star Trek books.
love the outfit and the books!! 😸
Tons of great pickups, Jonathan. I'm especially interested in your eventual thoughts on the Coruscant Nights trilogy, as I haven't really heard anyone else discuss it.
I think book hauls are my favorite videos. That Star Trek 4 book looked like it was in excellent condition too 👍
Love these vids!! Currently reading A Breath of Snow and Ashes (Outlander 6) by Diana Gabaldon. Listening to the seven sisters by Lucinda Riley, starting words of radiance eventually as well
The Dagwood thumbnail strikes again!
What your thought on the new covers for the star wars legends books? Did you own any of the new covers? What the difference between the old covers and the new covers?
I think they’re fine covers. I usually prefer the original ones, but the new ones are ok. I collect the OG books, mostly because I’d already bought 70% of the EU when the Essential Legends collection started.
The Small hardcovers you mention are book club editions. There are many books (including several Star Trek titles) where the only hardcover is a club version. The Science Fiction Book Club also produced many exclusive omnibus collections (again, including Star Trek).
But most book club editions I’ve seen at used bookstores say “Book Club Edition” on them, but the ones I own don’t say that. 🤷♂️
@@jonathankoan yeah, they abandoned that at some point. Best indicators are the smaller size (but not always), a flat cover where the original version would be embossed, and a small white box on the back cover with numbers in it. It may also be lighter because of the paper stock used. If you see Guild America as the publisher, that's a club edition. P. S. If you come across Barlowe's Guide To Extraterrestrials or Guide To Fantasy pick them up. I think you'll really like them.
I got the #0 Jedi Quest novel when it came out when I was a kid and loved it. I believe it was where Anakin makes his lightsaber after traveling to the cave to retrieve the crystals.
Great 👍🏻 video as always!
You're one of my favorite TH-camrs!! Thank you for doing what you do.
Thank you! That’s very kind of you!
Just started. Just ordered all of phase 1’s books minus the children’s picture book.
I hope you enjoy them!
It's good for Star Wars to access differentating appeal, the idea of this sounds much more interesting than any of the other books which I immediately drop out of boredom. The main issue I imagine encountering would be Mace's character which should obviously be consistent despite it being a nonstandard star wars story.
With how explicit these book I really don't know why people even read them. I can understand on other book series where you weren't expecting it and it wasn't ever really advertised as such but in this case it's pretty much one of the main things that people know this franchise for.
Thanks or the video, it's always nice to hear your thoughts. This is a book I hope to get to some day.
I am rereading The Hobbit which I havent read since middle school years before The Hobbit Trilogy came out. I also have a few Star Trek books in waiting written by Diane Duane, 2 of which serve as a minor story arc involving the Romulans.
Appreciate your insights. I’m almost done with A Clash of Kings and it’s amazing, having watched House of the Dragon, to see so many hints in the main series of the lore and history more fully fleshed out in this book. I’ll have to get to this eventually for sure.
I haven’t read this or the tales of Dunk and Egg but I still put the original ASOIAF as my top fantasy series (even with the explicit stuff). I can remember reading the first 3 books and my jaw dropping reading those. It’s just a shame I don’t think we will ever get anything else in the main series
I haven't read this trilogy yet but it seems Terry Brooks keeps doing the same thing: GREAT subjects, GREAT ideas, GREAT settings... used poorly. I would love some other authors to "use" its setting/world building and "improve" Shannara's world
Random question😅Any chance we may be seeing an updated version of Star Wars Young Adult novels ranked anytime soon? Would love to see it.
They don’t release too many YA books, so my list hasn’t changed much recently, but I might do one later this year.
Great video as always! The lore videos covering this book & this universe are so good & fascinating. Keep it up good sir. 👍🏻.
I think he laid it on a little to thick with the time is different there and stuff I thought it was too predictable and I hated the mental health stuff you can't just get over stuff this quickly most of this stuff takes lifetimes to get over
Absolutely love this book!! Can't wait to hear your thoughts on it. I would definitely hope we get Winds and Blood and Fire. The Targaryen's are so interesting.
Just started book 1 of Wheel of Time. Bought from thriftbooks on line
I hope you enjoy it. One of my favorite series.

Thank yoiu, excellent review, love your energetic presentation, you told me what I needed to know, which is that if I'm interested in the origins of the Bene Gesserit, I should start w/ Sisterhood, maybe skim this book (battles = boring), and move on to Lady of Calladan. I R ead Dune about 500 years ago & I could not put it down, it is one of the most brilliantly conceived and written sci-fi books ever, have probably re-read it 20 times at least. I eagerly grabbed Dune Messiah---meh, weird, but I hopefully went on to Children of Dune & bailed out halfway through. Maybe it's me, had the same reaction to O.S.Card's Ender's Game & sequels. Possibly I expect too much. I gave Dune another try & read The Butlerian Jihad---pretty well written (though overly long---do it, say it, get on with what happens next) and utterly terrifying, doubly so now with the advent of AI & all that other stuff that I'm thankfully too elderly to understand. But read it if you haven't by now & be prepared to keep your computer & smartphone locked in the closet for the next month. You won't be rooting for Erasmus to get it on with the lady, you'll be hoping that she hot-wires him to a blowtorch (yes, pun intended).
Just finished this book yesterday and thought it was incredible! I loved it so much.
