It was a revelation in computer games, and still the most memorable and cherished of the GTA series for me. The second and third islands were great too, but I always missed the first island. I remember playing GTA III when I was 13. I had never played anything like this. When I first heard the one of radio stations I thought this must be the most realistic game ever made.
Even as a 20 year old GTA III was hugely impressive and ground breaking, completely unique and my favourite of the series. I can only imagine it was even more impactful as a young teenager, a huge milestone in gaming (Mafia was a vaguely similar and hugely impressive game in its own right, which came a year later, another game I love. I think 3D games were really coming into their own in that very late 90s - early 2000s era).

I started by playing GTA Vice City and I instantly fell back in love with Flash FM. I could hum all the songs first try eventhough I didn't understand any of the lyrics back when I was a child. After finishing GTA Vice City (And a crazy rush of nostalgia) I decided to give GTA 3 another try too and when I switched to Flash Back FM and heared Tony's voice, I became my happiest.

Jeezz, the GTA III is now older than this music was when GTA III came out...
In perspecitve, when GTA Vice City came out in 2002, 1986 (story setting of Vice City) was 16 years ago... now 2002 is 22 years ago... technicaly it means that game like Vice City today could be set in 2008..... fuck I'm old!!!!

I can’t think of a game soundtrack from this era that gave me so many laughs at the fun music, hilarious commercials, and lovable DJs. I always kept the dial on Lips 106 & Flashback FM when in the middle of some outrageous stunt to evade the cops. Thanks for posting this.
