Would have been nice to spray foam the bottom exterior before dropping in place.
You put in foam to break conduction with the dirt. The bottom of the shelter doesn't have any dirt.
@@MrThenarsky It would also be added moisture protection on top of the tar coating.
It would insulate as well.

Seems like a rubber coat on the whole thing would be better...

Really putting in the effort for Longevity.
Honestly, that insulation isn't doing much. It would help prevent corrosion some. But a completely steel object like that has so much heat transfer that you would need some kind of monolithic barrier around it as a complete thermal break.

My concern would be all the spaces on the top of the bunker that will/could hold water before the slab is poured. If someone builds on top of the bunker I would have the soil compacted in stages because after natural differential settlement without proper compaction will lead to slab cracking. Other than that, the bunkers are top notch and the best product out there. I don't know how long the customer waits for the backfill to settle before moving forward with the slab installation. I would hope the fill would be compacted before the slab installation is done for a well done job.

Pretty solid. I would suggest if you're going to spray foam the shelter, you should spray the entirety if it, including the I beams. Those will transfer a lot of heat through the flanges via thermal bridging and conduction. You're already spending the money to insulate, might as well make the insulation as good as possible.

Ron, have you ever thought of putting a peaked roof on your square shelters? It could strengthen it, allowing the shelter to be buried deeper. It could also provide for a large loft.

@@bmernka1723 Yes, it would be more expensive, but it might be worth the cost to those who want it to be somewhat of a bomb shelter.

It would only strengthen it if you added internal cross members, otherwise it would be a weaker structure. It would also add weight to the transportation/installation logistics. Basically if you want a loft, just buy a bigger box

Atlas appears manufacture top grade private shelters. Shucks I'd like to have one, if for no better reason than the novelty to show off to my friends. The reality of shelters, big government of private. If the shelter and occupants survive the threat/catastrophe: A) can they dig out if necessary. B) the moral dilemma of survivors knocking at the door.
These videos always remind me of '10 Cloverfield Lane' 😅
I think if I was in a hotter climate I might want the top to be foamed. Just a peace of mind extra if nothing else.

once you have this installed thats when you build the basment on top first? im just curious on how this all works.
This one is going to be under a barn if I heard Ron correctly.
If you was going to pour a concrete pad over it and build a basement, you would need one made a lot different and it would need to be designed around that fact.
For example the stairs. Assuming you would want to enter through the basement, they would need to go up the side.
I would run the air pipes up through the basement walls myself and out the top of the house, disguised as air vents like fir the kitchen stove.
If I were to get a bunker would it be best to have it done first and have a house built around it vs the other way around
So where's the French drain + pump for this installation? I didn't see anything get installed. If the site has flooded once already then it's going to flood again?

does the foam compress over time & does it sponge up water, what is the purpose of the cinder blocked in cavity under the mud/generator room?
The foam they used is a type for burial on fuel tanks I was not there to film it. He gave me this footage to use in todays video
If the bottom didn't have a curtain wall, then repeated flooding over time would migrate the fill soil to underneath the bunker, thereby hollowing out the concrete slab overhead. Ideally you'd have proper water drainage and fill stone instead of earth, so it's probably a cost issue?
This is where having a raised floor doesn't make a lot of sense, because then the generator room has to be raised to match. Or just add internal steps...

Averqdge temprature 56 until you get some bodies in ther moving around then its gonna warm up a lottle with all that insulation and being air tight
That’s correct. But storage temperature varies. 52 in winter in Minnesota is the coldest it will get in there even in winter

I’m probably wrong but it seems like it would be cheaper just to build a concrete bunker. First of all you don’t have any shipping or crane charges. Seems like you could build a bigger concrete bunker for less than 300,000. Am I wrong? (I realize a lot of the cost is all the equipment inside, too)
No. Concrete actually costs more typically if done right and takes months not days
These bunkers will rust completely through in less then 20 years

Is OSHA ineffective in the USA? Each time I watch these videos I see numerous things that are unacceptable in the U.K. and I am sure similar rules apply in the USA.

U say it's a diesel generator... How much fuel does it consumes per hour? And how big is the tank? I mean, if it's a full scale nuclear war.... U maybe need to be down there for a long time......
Fallout degrades at such a rate that most could egress from their shelters after as little as two weeks. If you weren't planning on staying in your shelter afterwards, you might get away with as little as a two week supply of diesel, and that amount would depend on what kind of load you would run inside of it, which again would vary greatly depending upon the individual owning the bunker. All that said, a lot of people who have bunkers have solar set up to function off grid, so no diesel necessary. Some have a diesel generator anyway as a backup incase the solar fails, or at least sufficient to carry them through a couple weeks of bunker use, as solar might not work so well in the weeks following a nuclear exchange.
I do not own a bunker, but if I did I'd have both a diesel generator for redundancy and an off grid solar installation powering both my home and bunker. Moreover I would have all the batteries for the system inside the bunker and a complete set of panels and electronics to replace the above ground installation, also inside the bunker as a redundancy.
I like the way you think! Excellent my thoughts exactly I am all about redundancy of fact I would be OCD about it! I have heard and seen some individuals have four redundancy’s in place!
If you look at other videos they put in a LARGE fuel tank all comes down to how you want to spend on your bunker ??
@@panpiper Be careful with having batteries inside a shelter. Some of them can catch on fire. Best to keep them completely out of the shelter.
@@panpiper as i wrote A FULL NUCLEAR WAR it will include several big booms i same or near the same place, solar panels will be completely wiped out in the emp wave, then we have the big blow and the heat wave.... And if i dont recall wrong the "vacuum" wave, when the blow and heat wave become a very hard return and the mushroom forms and sucks up every Loose debris... And u say "most bunker owners have solar and Diesel as a redundancies.... In my world in case of full nuclear war, the Fallout probably as u say has stopped, but what about the radioactivity??? It will not "disappear" in a couple of weeks.... That's why I was curious about the fuel consumption and tank size.... Let's say u can't go out for 6 month and u need at least one light, let the filter system run and to be able to cook your stored food.... May not sound much... But tak the fuel consumption per day X 180 days.... That's not just a 50 gallon tank my friend..... Or skip running the filtration system.... You Dave diese but die from dirty contaminated air...... Read facts before u making stupid comments.....

What happens if bad guys JUST plug up and block ALL your air vents ???? How long until U have to give up, come out & surrender ???? (a scary question if your wife or daughter is sexy) build the air vents into the top of a fake tree making it hard for the bad guys to find your air vent ????

It has a French drain and sump pump and it is compacted with the machine. Watch the video to the end
Not sure how things get passed by engineers etc in the northern hemisphere but down here in the south that would not pass , it’s a disaster waiting to happen .
