    "Meathooks" love it, my Dad used to say "Get your meathooks outa there" if ones of us kids would try to sneak a taste of something being prepared for a meal. Hearing you say that took me right back there. Made me smile and think of him. RIP Dad...thank you. I'll be making a handles for my carbides now.

    That is an awesome handle. My grandfather told me stories of his wood tools. All of which he had to make himself, while going through school, to be a "master craftsman". I still have most of those tools, today. Sadly, right now, they are stored in my father's garage. Always most gratifying to be using a tool that you have made, in all or part.. The raccoon was a great touch..

    • @RHumphrey
      @RHumphrey  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you Bob. I can only imagine what a feeling it must be to use tools made by, and handed down by, family. I hope you have access to them. I never had that pleasure or honor... But hopefully I can pass mine on someday. If not to family, then to someone that appreciates them for what they are...

    Wow. Two for one. One video, two projects. Another winner. Very nice handle and I love the vase too. Great color and figure. For someone who doesn't do spindles you looked pretty good, except for the spot about 7:00 where you were cutting uphill. Although you appeared to get away with it nicely. Just goes to show that their are rules that don't always hold true. Thank you for sharing your viewers projects as well as yours..

    • @RHumphrey
      @RHumphrey  5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Not only does Cap'n Eddie bring you philosophy, wisdom, and OB Shine Juice, he also sells carbide inserts at a fraction of the cost from retailers. Nice tool handle - I did the same with the bars I bought from Cap'n Eddie. I still prefer gouges to carbide inserts, but for those nasty pieces of wood where you get tearout no matter what gouge you use, the carbide tools usually tame it or at least keep you from blowing it up with a catch.

    • @RHumphrey
      @RHumphrey  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually... and forgive me for failing to mention it, but this is a Cap'n Eddie carbide insert. Mike told me that, but I forgot until just now...

    Wonderful work as usual! Regarding the two pronunciations of "vase", the rule in Phonics is that if there is a vowel, and then a single consonant, and then an 'e' at the end of the word, the vowel sound is long. My mother used to tell me the 'e' at the end jumps back over the consonant and makes the preceding vowel say its name. Rip becomes ripe, man becomes mane, and so on. So you are correct when you say vase your way. The 'e' at the end makes the 'a' long. However, as is anything in life, there are exceptions! :-)

    Rod, wicked cool! You are so appreciated and respected that people just can’t help but send stuff to you. 😊 The handle was definitely worthy of that very fine tool. The difference between a vase and a Vase is price. The Vase you made is adorable. If it was worth over $100.00 it would be called a Vase. So, all that said, I would call it a Vase because, I think it’s worth is over $100.00. 😉 Be blessed!

    • @RHumphrey
      @RHumphrey  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      lol, thank you Robin, it looks funny spelled the same way though! I'm sure it would be in the lesser range... 😊

    • @robinshay9180
      @robinshay9180 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ok, the spelling should have been Vaz. Not to be mistaken for the Vaz automobile. 😂 I do own a crystal Vas but insist on calling it a vase. I’m not a snob. 😂 Heck, if I put flowers in an old rubber tire, what do I call that? 😂 I would still pay $100.00 for your “vase” simply because you made it. Period! 😉

      Maple, Ash, or Birch? Any thoughts? I'm not sure which is preferred but I know all three are used. Thanks!

    • @pamiparocks
      @pamiparocks 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RHumphrey, Maples are the best "ready-to-go" bats. When a player uses a birch bat and it breaks, they can't just grab another new birch bat. It has to be one that's hit at least 30 batting practice balls. A maple bat is ready to go immediately and the best consistency throughout it's life of use. :-) And like "vase," I'm sure I will be corrected by other's opinions. Hahaha

    Hello from Alabama Rod , we say " vase " also ,😂 , the handle looks like it was made on the tool to begin with and the grain in the" vase " man the grain is unbelievable, I used to have a male and female raccoon I called Snoopy and Sara ,,,, they would eat dorritos out of my hand , nobody believed it until my wife at the time took photos ,,,we actually CAN all get along if we ALL simply try a little harder ,,, take care my friend

    I really enjoy my carbide tools, they can really fill the bill! When they get dull give Capt. Eddie a call as he has the best price I've found, plus he has the bars as well. I have a bar for each of the basic shapes which makes it pretty easy to go from square to round to small round (hollowing). Anywho check it out.
