Thanks Kent really enjoyed watching and the way you talk us through it all
Enjoyed the video. Thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching Lou! Happy Turning!
Great piece.
My mother in law just about to get a v old black mulberry reduced by a tree surgeon.
But I want to direct proceedings!!
And as I hear from your contribution from Stuart Janssen I hear it should be seasoned before use!
Nicholas, No, not sure where you heard that, you can turn the wood in any state. Check out Tree to Bowl Understanding Green Wood - www.TurnAWoodBowl.com/green Happy Turning!
Really nice. Thank you for your videos. I learn something every time I watch.
What a great small project. I love the way you went from bottom to the lid and then pull from the bottom wood.
Thank you, Jean! Cheers!
Thank you very much Kent for your videos. I just started turning and have learned so much from your videos. I usually watch one then go out to the shop and try what you show lol. Thanks again
Welcome Fitz! Thanks for watching. Enjoy and Happy Turning!
Good vid. This year I used my scraps to make christmas tree ornaments. Sometimes I make drawer knobs, screwdriver handles, or spinning tops for kids.
Excellent! Happy Turning!
At first, I thought the bottom was too thick. The undercutting really lightened it up. Very nice piece
Beautiful lidded bowl Kent.
Glad you enjoyed it Jack. Happy Turning!
Excellent Kent.....your videos are very helpful. Keep it up!
Thank you, I will. Happy Turning!
That's a really cute piece! Inspiration for a future project! Thanks Kent!
Glad you like it. Happy Turning!
Beautiful work! Thanks for sharing your skills!
Thank you very much, John! All the best to you and Happy Turning!
Really impressive Kent. Thank you. Graham UK
Glad you enjoyed it. Thank you, Graham! Happy Turning!
Nicely done and quite the beautiful result! 🤓
Thank you, Steve! Cheers!
I've turned a few pieces of mulberry and I love the chatoyance the wood has. One thing I've noticed is it actually turns more easily when its dry than when its green, which surprised me since green wood usually turns more easily.
Interesting! Thank you for writing and sharing, Stuart. I think you are correct. Happy Turning!
Stunning bowl box.
Thank you, Mark! Happy Turning!
That is a really cute box and a nice use of scraps. I can see many possibilities with scraps - from turnings like yours, gluing multiple pieces together or even resin casting.
Thank you, and Happy Turning!
I have glued scraps together to make bowls
Very nice another great video. Thanks for all the links to the other great tools.
Thanks Kent!
You are very welcome Bruce. Happy Turning!
Nice workmanship!!
Thank you, Bill! Cheers!
It's amazing what you can do with just off cuts
Regards
Steve UK London
Steve, yes indeed! Tons of potential! Happy Turning!
As always, I love it. Your videos are easy to watch which in turn makes them easy to learn from. (See what I did there? 😂) All kidding aside, you are really a great instructor.
Inspirational!
Question: why epoxy instead of wood glue?
Nice work dude. It became a work of art 👏👏
Thank you so much 😀 Keep up the cool blacksmithing!
If you have small parts you can glue them on a larger piece of wood by using hotglue.
Jen,
Yes, just be sure to turn a bit slower and less agressive. And rubbing alcohol will release the hot glue.
Happy Turning!
Kent
Kent, I do enjoy the videos...but... you said you like a challenge. How about a vase? Maybe a 3" base with a 4-1/2" midsection, and a 1-1/2" top. 10" overall height would be good. Hint... glue is acceptable. That would be a fun one!
LOL, I'll see what i can do for you. Happy Turning!
It's a lovely little box but as both of these are side grain isn't there more risk of uneven distortion when they change environment with a snug fit like that compared to say an end grain box with a pop fit lid?
Chris, Good question. As long as the wood is equalized it will not distort. The microwave technique is best turnawoodbowl.com/drying-green-wood-bowls-6-methods-success/
Happy Turning!
Kent
Any thoughts on doing a live video? Think it would be cool. People could do a q&a with you
Interesting. It's a bit of a challenge as far as video feed etc. I'll see what I can do in the future.

On this and previous videos I noticed you didn’t tighten the set screws after screwing on the chuck to the spindle. Why not, and if they aren’t really needed, why are the set screws there to begin with? Does it have to do with reversing the spin direction?
Tiny!
Lowell
Thank you, Lowell. Yes, especially after last week. ;) Happy Turning!
Question: on finishing the cap handle why not use a thin hacksaw blade to part?
Chuck, you could do that indeed. Happy Turning!
Do you, heat you finish?
Judith, no not usually. It will get very thick however when the shop is cold. It still works fine. Happy Turning!
Appreciate your videos, seems like we broke almost every rule tonight 😁
