    Honestly I seen this akita that was off the leash at a regular park and he would listen to his owner like he was a actual human. He would follow him every step without a leash and without treats he would obey be every command And he will let them free to run around the park wheree there was kids and families but as soon as he whistled the dog would run back to him. This honestly shocked me it really did if I told me akita to sit even if I’m a very strong leader he would not dare sit if I don’t have a price for him (treat/toy)

    Hi, love your videos and watching them from The Netherlands. I will be chosing my akita puppy soon. However I am still not sure which sex to take. Due to experiences, can you maybe let me know what the biggest differences are between a male and female akita? My previous dog was a german shepperd X rottweiler male and he was the biggest goofiest dog.

    4:55 pretty damn true. got a 9 weeks old Akita Inu puppy. (got him at 7,5). I dont pretend to be a dog health expert too but young dogs will be dogs. I like to take him out for a 20-30 mins zoomies/exploring/sniffing/doing his potty/basic training in the backyard as he wake up (He want it I dont force anything). Then when he start to slow down and become more calm he get in to eat... let him nap a while im doing my things (might take him out once or twice for a leak) before 12. He will play with his toys (or things he should not be playing with. but that another issue haha). during the afternoon. Usually has zoomies in the late afternoon outside. another small one around 8pm (or attempt to go for a walk.. Akita Puppies+walk= you looking dumb while he stop and stare around every 6 steps. That another issue haha). Then guess what. he sleep/cuddle till like 7:30am. Might have helped that I got him in the first week of a month off to be honest tho.
    By all this I mean. Your vet job is to tell you how to give him the best probabilities to be healthy and avoid future issue. Your is in my opinion to balance ''giving the dog the life he wish for naturaly'' while avoiding as many risk as you can while raising it into a well behaved companion who enjoy it life. AND not letting him exercises would be in my case anyway a terrible mistake as he CLEARLY listen learn (and is happier) after spending some of his energy. Dogs will be dogs and even their health experts would understands that by their nature you can perfectly follow everything they say.

    My boy is a mutt. (Azimutt is his name, as he is a mutt.)
    Momma dog was reputedly a Sheltie (rescue situation, my info is 3rd hand), poppa dog was "big". Of course, this stirs up speculations.
    My vet lists him as "shepherd mix" , and he may be right. But I see curly tail, and I think there's a Spitz class dog in the mix... I see long webbed toes on big feet and I keep coming back to Akita, even if he is more medium size (25 pounds and he's just loosing his milk teeth - incidentally, why are those needles called milk teeth? Poor momma critters! Ow!) and has a "smooth" or short-ish (brindle) coat.
    Either way, these Akita videos are very helpful.
    Incidentally, Azimutt looked really sorry when I said "OW!", and quit biting for a while today. Ok. I'll take that.

    Mouthing gently is something our boy does affectionately but he doesn't hurt, from what I can gather Akita do mouth a bit more than a lot of breeds.
    If he does clonk his teeth on your fingers he calms down right away, and lucks to say sorry lol.

    My 12 week old Akita knows her name, Sit, Stay never has pooped in the house, won't touch her food until given permission to eat. BUT gets the Zoomies and jumps and climbs the rock outcroppings in my yard for hours Even at 2:00 am She needs to go climbing and guarding the yard. She wraps her front legs around one of my legs and bites my pants to stop me from going back inside. Then she starts attacking me and barking. She wants to live outside and sleeps in the snow. Or Sleep in my parked cold truck. She getting more stubborn to live outside. The Husky next door is an outside dog to. But its illegal to leave the dogs outside in cold weather. How do I get the puppy to like living inside?

    I have a Belgian malinois female she is 4 months (i got her when she was one month), and the previous day i got another puppy, (akita male) he is nearly one month.. so the question is can these two puppies get along? And may have a relationship in the future? My malinois is quite aggressive towards him.. but i keep each one of them in separated houses and away from each other.
    I will do the leadership technique on both dogs 👍🏻

    • @rf8481
      @rf8481 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Buckle up cowboy because you are about to ride the tiger and these dogs are very much like solitary tigers in so many ways. Visit with someone who owns an American Akita or two opposite sexed American Akitas and have an honest talk about the pros and cons. An American Akita is very commonly upon reaching sexual maturity not a good dog park dog or a beach dog and owning one is like having overly protective body guards - as even the best bred and best socialized dogs may not be accepting of a girl or boy friend who sleeps over or of a new kitten or puppy that person brings to the relationship or random strangers and dogs which may wish to say hello. Best to have a home and family with a fenced yard and a very sturdy leash and choke chain with this kind of dog. Make sure you understand what you are signing up for - this is more like joining the French Foreign Legion than seeing the world on a Royal Navy flag ship.

    • @joefugate7014

      My advice is to get to know your puppy. No two Akitas are alike. Be aware of the potential problems that you may face with the breed but dont assume that your Akita has all of those potential problems. Start training day one. By this I mean show them what you expect and want them to do. Make them part of your family. These dogs are very social dogs if you let them. Now that being said they won't be like wanting to cuddle with you but they will follow you if you get up and move to another room it's very likely they will too. Get a good pair of walking/hiking shoes. They love to go for walks or hikes . I lost 15 pounds the first six months with my new Akita. We wanted a camping dog and he love to go camping. He will hike for hours in rough terrain. Every day I try to walk with him at least twice a day. This is where you'll bond most with them. Dint get me wrong they are a very stubborn breed and training them can be hard but they are not as wild and crazy as people may say. They do take a strong leader that will take the time and patience to work with them. Trust me if you invest the time into your Akita you'll never want another breed. The most loyal friend you'll ever have.

      @@joefugate7014 Thank you so much for your advice and kind words. If you dont mind I have a couple more questions. Did you socialize your pup with other dog before receiving all his shots?What did/do you feed him. 1st 24hrs with him what was your main focus?

    • @joefugate7014
      @joefugate7014 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@joswetorres8987 so I never really thought too much about the socialization and shots. I would just socialize when the opportunity arose. As far as the type of food he was already eating purina pro plan puppy food for large breeds so I just stuck with that. And the first 24 hours let him just get use to his new home. And start the potty training right away. Take the puppy out often.

      Try to use words that imply that he is doing a bad thing, say it with a loud and serious tone but not shout
      I sometimes slightly hit with the back of my hand- not in a way that hurts of course- on head or mouth. Do something that shows him you are unhappy and be strict but don’t go too aggressive, It’s like punishing a child you don’t want to hurt it but you want to show that it’s a wrong thing and you are very disappointed

    What issues are there in adopting Akita dogs from animal shelters? It would be helpful to understand the mindset of Akita and how they handle being abandoned and possibly misunderstood as an aggressive or even dangerous breed. Furthermore, they sit there for months upon months if it is a no kill shelter. I would think all dogs at animal shelters are in someway suffering emotionally, but nearly all Akita shelter dogs are recommended not to be rehomed with other dogs and also require a home with no small children. Who should/shouldn't adopt an adult Akita shelter dog?

We would recommend though, if you ever have a serious behaviour concern with your dog it's always best to look for a local trainer who will be able to see the behaviour in person and give tailored advice and support during the training process. Good luck!
