    It's taken me a full seven and a half months to teach my puppy anything, from biting and chewing to going to the toilet outside and kind of walking properly on her lead, patience is the key word, still got a way to go but what a lovely chilled out pup she is, been checking out a few dog training sites but most achieved by this guys advice, the loose lead walk in the mornings was a life changer.

      Then you'll realise it's not the pet that needs to be trained, but the pet's owner.
      You'll see some people you'll think ought never to become parents, buying pets.
      I divorced my wife when I saw how she treated our rescue pup. Did not wish to have that person be the mother to my children.

      @@susangarvey9415 my sister in her teens had a friend who trained German shepherds for Crufts obedience competition.
      When we got a new cavalier king charles tricolour spaniel, wee Snoopy went along to the obedience classes, just to get used to being around other people and their dogs.
      Strictly against the rules, but he was such a good natured bonny wee thing, nobody wanted to deny him joining in with the big dogs.
      In fact he had the place in uproar, with how clever he was.
      Before that pup was even 6months old, he was so keen from the start, he was doing everything the older dogs could do, probably even better.
      I swear Snoopy was the smartest dog I ever saw, he could do everything but talk. You never needed to have to work out what he wanted, I swear he understood every word you said.
      That was the influence of a really good dog trainer on the dog, but more on my sister.
      That friend moved away, we never had a dog quite that smart ever again, even 40 years later.
      She got another tricolour, decades later, but this one was as thick as mince.
      By this time my sister was involved in her chosen legal profession work, didn't have the same time to work with her dogs, kept a dog for companionship, was devoting more time to her horses.

    Active and passive corrections worked so well this week with my dog, but now he is starting to get very aggressive in return (I presume he is feeling scared of threatened, even though I make sure to reinforce and reward the following relaxed behaviour). Any tips for dealing with this? He is 13 weeks old and started trying to jump and jump my leg also - I presume trying to be dominant?

      Have you had any luck with your puppy? We have the very same issue with our 10 wk pup. The training generally works and he is more placid most of the time. But now when he bites, it is much harder and aggressive. It happens during his play time: he'll ignore the toys and run at one of us and bite hard on our ankles, then our hands if we try to distract him using the methods seen in these videos.

      @@mike2410 literally the only thing that helped was getting a crate and making our puppy sleep more. Behaved so much better, he was just overtired and overstimulated - we found it really hard to tell the difference between under-exercised/stimulated and overtired, but getting a crate and forcing him to have 4hrs alone without us to sleep and rest is the only thing that helped. Also just time, they do calm down! I feel your pain though, it can be so disheartening.

    This video is great and is helping with my 12 week old English Bulldogs puppy biting! However when it comes to my older 8 year Old American Bulldog, the puppy will Not leave him alone! I try to separate them throughout the day to give my older dog a break but he is constantly being bitten and jumped on. He is too soft to correct the behaviour himself, he pushes him away with his nose or tries to hold him down with his paw/chin but this just seems to wind the puppy up Even more and he just ends up running around in circles trying to get away from him. Occasionally he will roll around and play with him, he even initiates it sometimes but when he doesn’t want to play the puppy will Not take no for an answer and follows him everywhere he goes biting his legs and tail, even jumping up at his neck/face, we use the same technique shown in the video the same as when he nips or bites us, but he has no response to
    It whatsoever. As soon as our older dog makes it clear he is not up
    For Playing we Intervene and almost every time end up Having to remove the puppy and separate them. Even this doesn’t help! As soon as he’s allowed back in he will just run straight back over to him and start all Over again! If they are in the same Room and we are not giving the puppy our undivided attention keeping him constantly distracted he will Dive straight on our older dog . The puppy is crate trained and has his daily naps in there as well
    As sleeping in there at nights. This does give the older dog some space and a breather but it’s just constant! and I don’t want him to be miserable! Is there a different way I could implement this technique or anything I can add for this particular situation in order for it to be more effective in the moment?

That when the Rottie reaches approx 2 years old they will fight for dominance and have to live separated Forever!! Regardless on if I get the puppy fixed or not. (I would prefer not to.) Please share your advice before my brain explodes from panic😢

      Hey Rockie. I literally just had to say goodbye to my 10 year old male rottie yesterday. He was an Angel. And actually, by the time he was 2 he was firmly established as the best of boys. But, I’ll be honest, he was a little crocodile meany pants as a puppy. I’m being cute when I say that. He was a shit bird, that’s the not cute way of putting it I guess. I read books, watched videos, did classes and even spoke to a behaviourist. Looking back I see where I made some of my mistakes. I was an inexperienced dog owner. But I put in the time and got my poop in a group and stepped up as the leader my dog needed. You must be firm and engaged. He must walk. You must immediately correct resource guarding and rough play. Your puppy is not dangerous just because it’s a rottie. These are great dogs. I personally opted to have my guy fixed, and it helped a lot with his nonsense. It was the right choice for me, you do what you like. Anyways, good luck. Don’t be afraid, commit to the work it’s going to take, and you’re going to have one amazing dog. If you’re still worried and afraid, maybe this isn’t the right doggie for you. I hate to say that, but it’s not a good attitude to go in with. I hope it goes well! ❤

    But what do we do with a reactive dog that responds even worse after a correction?
    Passive leads to frustration and a bit wrist, active leads to a rapid escalation. There is some intent, but it's very obvious that he is not trying to harm but communicate in a very inappropriate manner.

    • @spatrk6634
      @spatrk6634 ปีที่แล้ว

      yea my dog goes on full temper tantrum after correction of holding his collar.
      starts rolling on the floor and continues to bite
      but as you said, he is not trying to harm, he is playing but frustrated im holding him
      and he is 30 kg cane corso puppy.
      so im starting to ignore him when he bites instead of holding him. and i become boring very quickly so he stops

    • @IGloBlue
      @IGloBlue ปีที่แล้ว

      @S Patrk My boy is about the same size at ~34kg.
      Unfortunately, the ignoring strategy only works if he is at a low level of frustration. Otherwise, he will follow and nip heels and knees.
      He was a stray for 10 months, at the shelter for about 2 weeks, and then we took him home.
      Here we are 8 months later. It's fantastically rewarding when we hit milestones, but the street dog in him is definitely apparent. We unfortunately missed the most moldable stage and are combating them as more adult behaviors at this point. Very slow going. At one point, he tried to fight cars. Now we can go on full walks, usually fairly loose lead (as long as no squirrels, rabbits, or other dogs are around).

      Please do not use any of the methods that this person is showing - the methods are completely unacceptable and outdated!! Using hands on with a dog will not show you the results that you want to see, you want to teach a puppy by command rather than being hands on as they’ll always expect to be handled to be told off and will not respond to your commands at all. When your puppy is mouthing it’s completely normal, they are playing and they are can also be teething, the best solution for this is to simply redirect onto a toy. With consistency and repetition they will learn that they are allowed to chew on a toy but not your fingers. If the mouthing ever gets too out of control then get up and leave the room, if you do this everytime they are excessively mouthing without control then they will learn that they do not get attention when they behave this way. Positive reinforcement and rewards based training is the most effective proven by science in training dogs correctly!

    Biting is normal puppy behavior the only thing I've ever done with any of my dogs is when they are puppies and try to bite I just say no bite, and then I replace my hands or whatever they're trying to buy with a toy or a chew bone. As soon as their mouth touches said toy or to Bone I praise them. I also teach them when they're very young to be gentle taking food I will offer a high-value treat like a tiny piece of chicken or turkey and I'll let them sniff it before they take it I will say gentle and if they try to grab it I won't release it as soon as they are gentle I give them the treat I praise them and then I give them another treat. My unprofessional and methods I'm not a professional dog trainer has raised some of the most balanced calm dogs I teach my dogs manners when they're young.. everyone praises the behavior of my black German Shepherd, however I tell them she did not come from the factory this way lol I socialized her I walked hundreds of miles with her over her lifetime, she was has always been treated very well. I also trained her in the basics. If you put time into your puppy and young dog you will not have any problems later, it's a lot of work don't get a puppy unless you're ready to do the work you can't just look at them and say cute puppy.
