Kanchanaburi, Thailand is a place riddled with violent history from WW2 and still has tons of remnants from World War II like the Death Railway on the River Kwai. Before coming to Kanchanaburi, we didn't know much but after learning about the Death Railway (เส้นทางรถไฟสายมรณะ) and how many prisoners of war were taken there, we had to learn more. In this video, we take you on the death railway, show you the bridge on the river kwai, and show you the prisoner of war cemetery in Kanchanaburi. Wonderful and very informative thanks ! Though not in Thailand, my grandfather and a number of other relatives fought in World War 2 on the Burma Front and in Malaya. Heard a lot of history from these brave soldiers of what used back then to be the British Indian Army.

My mother was born in Kanchanburi! I’ve been there in 2017 with my mother. I hurt my ankle from one of the climbs. It’s a wonderful part of Thailand. (Phuket is the best area.)

HEY GUYS, I HAVE BEEN IN THAILAND FOR 12 YEARS NOW AND KANCHANABURI IS ONE OF MY FAVORITE PLACES TO GO. IN FACT I WILL BE GOING THERE AFTER THE FIRST OF THE YEAR. I ALWAYS STAY AT THE APPLE RESORT ON THE OPPOSITE SIDE OF THE RIVER. LAST TIME I WAS THERE I TOOK A COOKING CLASS IN THAI FOOD.
THE CEMETERY YOU WERE AT IS THE LARGEST OF THE 3 THAT I KNOW ABOUT. JUST TO THE NORTH OF THE CEMETERY IS A MOST WONDERFUL MUSEUM AND THE DISPLAYS ARE VERY WELL DONE. IT GIVES THE HISTORY OF THEIR PART IN THE DEATH RAILWAY. HOW ANY OF THOSE MEN LIVED THROUGH THAT IS AMAZING. I HOPE YOU HAD THE TIME TO SEE IT FOR YOURSELF.
I HAVE NOT TAKEN THE TRAIN RIDE AND WILL RECTIFY THAT ON THIS NEXT TRIP. I UNDERSTAND IT'S VERY INTERESTING AND IT REALLY SHOWS HOW MUCH WORK THE POW'S HAD TO DO AND ALL BY HAND.
JUST TO THE NORTH OF THE CITY IS THE TIGER TEMPLE. AS I UNDERSTAND IT THE MONKS FEED AND CARE FOR SOME TIGERS. I HAVEN'T BEEN THERE BUT THAT WILL BE ANOTHER ONE OF THE THINGS I WANT TO SEE. SOMEWHERE TO THE NORTH OF THE CITY IS AN ELEPHANT PRESERVE, THEY CARE FOR ELEPHANTS THAT WERE OWNED BY PEOPLE AND THEY CAN NO LONGER TAKE CARE OF THEM. I'M NOT SURE OF THE LOCATION OF THESE TWO PLACES BUT I'M SURE YOU CAN ASK AROUND AND PEOPLE CAN TELL YOU.

How incredibly insensitive this video is. Just the usual ignorant people having a good time. Read your history books. My father was taken prisoner and worked three years on the railway. His captors were horrifically cruel and so many of his fellow soldiers died in appalling circumstances. Yup .. a beautiful place to be!
I’m so sorry for the loss experienced and that your father had to live through something as horrible as this. The unfortunate reality is that a lot of WW2 sights today, have become tourist attractions. But through visiting sights like these, we are able to keep the memories of these tragic events alive and share them in a way that people can learn from. It has also provided us the ability to pay our respects to those who have served and sacrificed everything in our armed forces. As a child of a fully disabled veteran, I can only imagine the pain you and your family must have experienced. We hope that you can see, that in this video, we were simply trying to share this important part of history and Thailand in a respectful and informative way.
Thailand has done an incredible job maintaining these sights and making sure that people can learn about the history here for generations to come.
