- CENTENARY UK COMMEMORATION OF GALLIPOLI CAMPAIGN AND ANZAC DAY
AT THE CENOTAPH, WHITEHALL, LONDON 25 APRIL 2015
The National Commemoration of the centenary of the Gallipoli campaign and Anzac Day took place at the Cenotaph, Whitehall, London today 25 April 2015.
Attended by Her Majesty The Queen, Their Royal Highnesses The Duke of Edinburgh and The Duke of Cambridge, Government and international representatives, the ceremony paid tribute to the
58,000 Allies and 87,000 Ottoman Forces who lost their lives in the campaign.
UK Armed Forces, international military representatives and descendants of those who served in the campaign attend the ceremony.
After a two-minute silence at 1100, Her Majesty The Queen laid a wreath, followed by the national commemoration, which included readings by young people from the UK, Australia, New
Zealand and Turkey, and famous songs from the period performed by UK and international military bands.Turkish Air Force Band also performed at the ceremony for the first time ever after the Gallipoli War of 1915.
The commemoration closed with a march past along Whitehall past the Cenotaph including
representatives from the Royal Navy, the Army, international military personnel, the Gallipoli Association and other military organisations, In-Pensioners of the Royal Hospital Chelsea and the descendants of those who served in the Gallipoli campaign.

Yes, ANZAC - but definitely not ANZAK! And definitely not Anzac, as I have seen recently in the Australian media. Not quite sure why Australia considers it appropriate to emphasise "A" for Australia and lower case for New Zealand. Perhaps the need just grows and grows that the bigger you are the more important you are!

Not really, The British had 73,485 casualties including my great x3 uncle who died in the trenches at Gallipoli. Aus and NZ casualties combined were about 36,000.
