Turkey used these rifles as standard infantry service rifle until the end of WW2. After the NATO and Marshall Aids whole service replaced with USA made M1 Garands, BAR's etc. This rifle's been produced in Kırıkkale Firearms Factory under license from Mauser. Older Turkish people still remembers this rifle as a masterpiece and call it MAVZER.

+lastsipahi It is still used in the army as a ceremonial rifle. I got my hands on one of these babies and trained with them when I was at the army service. Its so nice and shiny but a little bit heavy when compared to G3 or AK-47 standard service rifles. I have also seen the invoice of these rifles bought for our ceremonial squad. Price tag is around 5500 Turkish liras / 1800 USD.
no we are not: only 40k of them is in service and we have almost 1m active recruited.
we will be using mpt 76 in a very close future.

Mauser tüfekleri Alman asıllı Paul Van Mauser tarafından geliştirilmiş olup; ilk modeli 1871 yılında üretilmiştir. O yıllarda Alman ordusunda kullanılmak üzere, askeri amaçlı üretilmiş bir piyade tüfeğidir. Sonradan değişik ülkelerce kontratla üretilmiş çap ve modelleri vardır, ama en gelişmiş modeli K 98’dir. Daha sonra Osmanlı ordusu tarafından da binlerce ithal edilmiş ve üretilmiştir. Cumhuriyet döneminde Ankara silah fabrikasında ASFA damgasıyla üretilmiştir, ama maalesef ki patenti ülkemize ait değildir. Dilimizde bu tüfekler mavzer olarak geçmiştir. Çanakkale savaşındaki başarımızda önemli bir payı vardır. Yaklaşık bir buçuk asır önce üretilmiş bu model tüfekler zamanla askeri açıdan önemini yitirse de halen dünya avcılık ve atıcılık camiası arasında tutulmaktadır. Almanyada halen mauser marka yivli av tüfekleri üretime devam etmektedir.

Oh those mausers, many older turks have alot to tell about it especially where we came (afyonkarahisar) from 40s to 70s when it literally our wild western style of era. Many of those mausers where modified to have another sound when fired for people with fame, so people could actually tell from the sound who was shooting around, we had one with a famous godfatherlike mans name was carved on it aslanbali which means lions honey who he had killed 9 men with it in a fight. He had to sell his gun to us for to pay guardians for helping his escape but he failed when a friend of him betrayed him at the end and was shot down...

Mauser! As a Turkishman I heard Mauser name/brand during my childhood A LOT! In old days it was the greatest firearm that someone could have. It's been mentioned in many folk songs. Many epics contain Mauser. Bandits had it, villagers had it. Some nasty things had happened by the help of it. It was an economic asset as well as being used for defense.
Mauser rifles for those who heard stories of past in rural life is something very familiar, very part of life even though many of younger generations never saw it never touched it ever in life.
Taking it from 100 years, it would be far more well-known German brand by Turks!

This is a ceremonial rifle, that’s why chrome plated, during the performance they hit the butt to the ground, marble butt make a sound.

it's not unique as you feel like it is; since the markings show two different dates of production '38 and '42.
this is definitely a rifle that was reassembled from pieces of two or more different rifles. also turkish versions never had marble buttstocks as defult.
and I don't know whose idea was to polish the wood to that level of smoothness, but it's stupid.

Hello there from Turkey. This rifle is very famous, glorious in Turkey, in villages people still keep those rifles from their great grandparents.. They are like a member in the family, some owners used to give them some pattern in Ottoman styles.. But anyway, of course no war! yes peace! :))
wow interesting I believe you have rare piece in your hand mister because most of this mausers shortened and re chambered for Turkish forest ministry around early 40's unfortunately restoration kills value but still so surprise you can find something like one piece thanks for video

My first deer rifle was a 8mm Turkish Mauser. They are excellent guns.

Ah ! ! What a wonderful rifle :))) The bolt safety is 3 position... 9o'clock safety off 12o'clock safety with open bolt operation 3o'clock full safety and locked bolt.
I see the butt of the stock has the two circles of wood plugging where the bolt take down rings would be in your stock !!! They wanted it to look really nice for something? Big Daddy that is one awesome rifle and glad you lit off some rounds with it :)))

Mauser was a Türkish rifle. But then the Germans made the weapen better. Mauser is a German name
+Turkish Eagle Most People here say M98 to the K98. But all know what it is talking about. I Have one (Mauser K98) Rebuilt to 30-06 and one (Mauser K98 carbine FN mod. 1950) original in 30-06.

smilemoney Wouldn't the marble butt plate crack if you accidentally slammed it on the ground too hard? It seems like a gun you would have to hold up all the time. Could also be someone taking pride in their gun, and tricking it out. Either way, it's a gorgeous gun!
jarkoer I meant it was beautiful enough to be a parade piece. The owner must have needed a little longer stock. A chrome butt plate would have looked amazing on it.
It actually is a parade piece coming from a Turkish guy here. In Turkish parade doctrine you don't really hit the ground too much with the rifle, since Mausers had that marble it made the "CLACK" sound anyway. Also now they are phased out and replaced by M1 Garands, same polish, same chrome but without a marble buttstock.

As the legend comes down to my generation from my father who says his grandfatger targeted a man from two kilometers distance and shot the man's cigarette burning between his lips. If the story is true, we might not call it a rifle but a balliatic missile launcher. Cool demonstration. Thanks for helping me recall my famililial memory.

Some people might've pointed it out but this rifle's mods with marble buttstock, chrome and polish is probably done by the military itself. Before Turkish Army started using M1's Mavzer's was standart service rifle. After they phased out military decided to use them as ceremonial rifles, hence the mods. Now year after a licensed clone of H&K G3 is the standart infantry rifle for -most- infantry and other units. Commando units and/or regular units that are going to see combat in Syria and East Turkey get MPT-76's, Turkish designed and made assault rifle. Thanks for the video!
