Smidge and a smidge head net is my go to. As for ticks. I have never been bitten in 50 years goung up the hills but I dont wear shorts, I wear gaiters as well. Clothing stops them. Interestingly, they seem to be getting more prevalent. There seemed to be less 40 years ago.
Floor, checkout the Cuillin and the Ollisdal bothy next time you are on Skye, the views from the Cuillin ridge is amazing and the view from the bothy looking towards the black Cuilin.. never seen something so beautiful!

It is long but it is so worthwhile.. I had rain on almost every day and even then it was amazing.. best hike so far. This year I will do the Skye Trail and it looks easier especially since you only spent 6 or 7 days.. but if the wind is hard and the rain starts it might be nasty 😅
Did the Skye Trail Last July. No midges, it was all about the rain 😢. Camped 6 nights, 1st & last night in excellent campsite in Broadford where I left my car for a small fee. I walked north to Portree, then bus to Rubha Hunish and walked back to Portree, made bus logistics easier. Great trail, met very few other hikers, maybe max 20 over the 5 days. My biggest mistake was heavy leather boots which got wet first day and tore my feet to shreds. Best wild camp slots for me, Camusunary Bay, where I was the only camper, and it was magical. Also at Loch Hasco below the Quaraing, again I had it to myself. Great trail, get there before it gets too popular 😂
Another thing to avoid midges is going start of april, end of september. Downside is colder and shorter days. I will start in the second week of April 2024.. curious how it will be, I remember waking up with a frozen tent in a previous hike in April 😂.. we'll see.. thx for the videos
Use Life Systems EX4 and spray it on your trousers, cuffs, shoe tops and gaitors. Not had a tic in two years. But not your ground sheets as that will.poisen the ground

You'd be well able for it but it is a long long distance trail it takes like 8 weeks. I'd say the Mo backpack would be fine, if your tent can fit in a pocket that might help. You'd need a bear can and the grizilly bears are scary..

Hey Christine! I just looked it up, and don't remember this exact passage, although I passed there. That must mean it's quite ok, unless your fear of exposure is really big. Some scrambling, but in good weather, not extremely dangerous.

If you’ve got some experience doing long distance hikes, I’d recommend the Skye Trail. It’s less crowded and the scenery is more beautiful. However, if you’re just starting out, the West Highland Way is a great option, as there are many hikers on the trail and you pass by many towns :).

The fun part is that I filmed that entire section of the video unknowingly CALLING THEM MIDGETS! So I had to refilm the whole part when I realized 😅

Midges... monsters. Avoiding the warm weather helps. As does an evening cigar (you don't have to inhale).
