Gotta love those unique Soviet missile designs.
Also the US forces start out with an F-14 Tomcat, because that’s the only platform capable of firing AIM-54
that should scare the shit out of the soviet admiral IRL because that means there is a US carrier strike group around, and they know your location, and you are within their planes' range.
@@artruisjoew5473enemy units exist within a Carrier Strike Groups range at the Strike Group commanders discretion
To be fair, a Tomcat's intercept range is quite far--especially considering that it can fire those Phoenixes from like 90 miles away. The carrier could very well actually be off the coast of Ireland.
(It's probably closer, though. It probably scrambled the F-14s after detecting your radar emissions.)
@@SonesBen Eh, he should have checked the trajectory of the F-14, maybe there would have been a fat prize waiting for him
Microprose - This is early access and subject to change
Me - shut up and take my money
Same here. I want this now :D
We should also all give credit to Triassic Games, they're the proper devs behind this incredible looking game.
Interesting to see the Storozhevoy, for anyone interested the Storozhevoy was the subject of a mutiny led by Valery Sablin in 1975, the event is apparently the inspiration for the book/film The Hunt for Red October.
Paper Skies has a great video on this on their channel. Title "When the Soviets Hunted Down their own Warship"
@@whatsoperadoc7050 Love that channel, its where I found out about the Storozhevoy in the first place
I see large soviet ship radar spinning, i like.
Even better are the fire control radars; love me some illuminators.
Yeah, semi-active SAMs with a secondary anti-surface function are going to require an active radar on the ship to guide them to the target. They aren’t self-guiding like Harpoons and other over-the-horizon ASMs. Odd that the US was so passive in this engagement. They could have at least fired Harpoons down the missile detection bearings even if they didn’t have radar or ESM contact on you.
Yeah I feel the AI was too passive in this one as well
Yeah, real strange. Probably an AI tuning thing, maybe the scenario was set to Very easy or something?
Probably had US rules of engagement to be fired on first in the scenario
Activating your radar not only reveals your presence but gives away your precise ID and approximate location, heading and speed.
I think launching choppers and keeping them very low and radar silent then vectorimg them many miles from you before popping them up to high altitude and going radar active might prolong ones life.
Agreed, playing Fleet Command will really train you to be EMCON if possible unless enemy only detect you, so all hell break loose.
I remember in Fleet Command there's a mission where you have two frigates, and you're up against two enemy frigates, and the only way I could think of going about it was to send my helicopters out on a suicide scouting run to visually find and ID the enemy. So is this really how you fight a modern surface naval battle?
@@delta5297 simple rule, first to detect, always win the battle. Most of the time.
"Let's finish off the rest of these ships."
WAR CRIME!
"Okay, maybe not ALL of them."
15:00 the Phoenix has a launch range of about 150km I think; roughly a bit more than 70 nautical miles really.
Tomcats!
Glad to see another video of Sea Power.
The moment I'll get this game I'll try to stop the Royal Navy from retaking the Falklands.
That would be a fun scenario to play out. I’m so hyped for this game.
You can try >:)
@@VulcanHDGaming I won Layte Gulf for the IJN in Carriers at War, took me gods know how long. I like a challange.
I already cannot wait for community scenarios.. And the freakin' mods...!
Haven't seen an RN ship in the mix yet. I hope they're their but I'm thinking it will be a DLC.
I have been waiting for this game for some months and all that time I have read over and over comments from people about how long it was taking. But now I see the level of detail in the animation and the detail of the ship models I can see where all that time went. Well done. The programmer should be proud of the work.
We are, thank you! Also there are more programmers than just me. Wouldn't be able to get that far with me alone. :)
@@martinleidel Hey could you respond to my question about multimonitor support?
It looks so nice. I hope they plan a longtime support with DLCs maybe and support for community made scenarios and mods.
We definitely will.
@@martinleidel Thank you very much! Looking forward to it!
@@martinleidel Hopefully one of those DLCs are Sweden, they had a few realy cool ships back in the day
@@martinleidel give us a workshop and you've got an amazing game ahead, give us DLCs along with that and you have hoi4
29:50 spreading out a few missiles across multiple targets is entirely counterproductive in modern naval warfare when those targets are providing overlapping fields of air defense for eachother.
Last time I was this early, the Moskva was classified as a surface combatant not a submarine
One of the things you could do to screen for subs is to have a small ASW ship, preferably one with a towed sonar, sprint far ahead of the group. One they're out a ways slow to 1/3 or stop and drift until the fleet passes. While slow, you can listen passively for submarines.
Storozhevoy... semi famous for its mutiny ;) Kills me that I have to wait till November :(
Probably didn't result in anything noteworthy in the media.....
@@colbypupgaming1962 Probs not XD
So cool to be able to play the USSR. I hope they'll add a search box to the database.

Curious that the Grozny is only carrying 8 of the Shaddock missiles - IRL the Kynda-class cruisers carried a full reload for both of their quad launchers, bringing the total to 16 Shaddocks.
Nice to see the Shtorm SAMs on the Kerch demonstrating how they make pretty decent antiship missiles as well, though.
game is looking like a banger already
Cannot wait to see the salvos of P-500 (Bazalt) and the flight paths. As far as I know, this is the only game to really model the actual flight paths of the missiles, the randomness of their maneuvers, and their jamming capabilities. Not even DCS does that.
Me watching every content creator get a key to the early access : IT SHOULD'VE BEEN ME
With your one subscriber and no content?
That’d be a hard sell 😅
I'm so psyched we finally got a fleet command successor in 2024!!
I hope the final product has the encyclopedia with pointers identifying the locations of the items along with a listing of ammunition or reloads. That would be a very nice touch. When I played harpoon in the 90s on Mac I had reference books which have all been lost now.
Just a thought, maybe the reason they were mostly hitting the water next to the Adams was that you'd turned off the radars on your ships and the missiles didn't have guidance from them? Is that a thing?
Truly awesome. Hope Micropose will introduce DLC for 90s to 2000 and current era. Plus, DLC for Royal Navy, Maritime Militaire etc
I hope they won't introduce any DLC and that will be all part of the base game, as it should be
There will be mods I'm sure.
@@onsholo It may be added in updates with scenarios as DLC? That seems a decent compromise.
Or just call them expansion packs again.
That Kara class was my fav surface vessel in dot mod, such a capable platform. 128 missiles is quite a lot for today, and the first Kara was layed down 56 years ago.
Soviet Naval Intelligence Bureau reports that all missiles hit their intended targets and that it was a errant American missile that struck and sank the merchant vessel.
The attention to detail is very impressive. Bravo!
Turned into Highfleet at the end there.
Accurate roleplay with that "Oops" towards the end
I think the SA-N-3 at around 38:00-39:00 kept slamming into the water because they aim around the waterline of the target, but in that case, since the waterline was underwater they hit the water before being able to hit their target.
I love that music and the atmosphere!
Yeah the music is fantastic!
I'm curious if enemy ships can pick on the radio transmission you send to unknown contacts, demanding to identify themselves.
I’m so hyped to play a game that I’m going spend the same amount of time learning like my calc 2 class lol
Thanks for posting these videos. I'm excited about this game.
Cant wait to play this. Lots of details and DLC potential :) Video comment is note especially for the SAM's minimum height engagement as sea skimming was a real threat to these early SAM systems (apart from just the challenge of detecting low flying missiles)
Man, I love you can read and learn about everything on the go with the information panel. Kinda looking forward to see more of the game, and see if it gets more countries and assets. Maybe the Clemenceau class?, maybe one day.
You would have definitely got a much bigger bloody nose than that when playing a multiplayer match in those scenarioes.
In the days of Janes Fleet Command, you would have had a lap full of harpoons at you and spreading out like that in surface action leaves you open for anti-ship missile spam.
they included a couple hypothetical soviet ships just to keep the playing field a bit more even. They even have their own Orel super carrier. Very cool.
Yeah they kinda had to, I love soviet/Russian ships but honestly thry would have been very weak and not fun to play against the US if we didn't get those
@@Stormyy6310 I disagree (at least unless I change my mind playing the game). Even with only actually-built units, the Soviets get Kirovs, Oscars, Slavas, and Tu-22Ms, all of which seem dangerous enough to sink major US ships, with the right support and tactics. US carrier aviation is going to be a menace, though, even with a Soviet carrier.
@@DecidedlyNinja I'm not saying the soviets would be easy food and that the US would just crush them, what I'm saying is that if we take the whole Soviet navy and dub it against the USN there is a gigantic difference that I think would make the game quite unbalanced, don't get me wrong I love Soviet ships and I plan to focus on the soviet campaign when I get the game (glorious Slava class is sexy as hell and coupled with The Crew is One Family I have a good feeling about this) but I'm pretty sure that's why they gave the Soviets some paper designs, guess that's just speculation though because in the end that won't change anything, cheers mate
@@Stormyy6310 Well, there would need to be a ton of hypothetical Soviet warships to make up the numerical disparity. That's not necessary for scenarios about individual battles like this and, for the planned dynamic campaign, I'd much rather see fewer American ships (say they're off seeing to important matters elsewhere) than an entire navy worth of fake Soviet ships.
@@DecidedlyNinja true, it would be pretty lame to have a majority paper designed fleet, however I think those designs were *also* added for cool factor, we don't know the lore that could justify this and explain why the Soviet Navy is even considering engaging the US navy but if anything it's a world where the Soviet Union is extremely powerful
Красиво, жду релиз игры.
If they want to be really accurate, the colors should be revered when playing as the Soviets. Friendly (Soviet) ships should be red, enemies blue. This is how Soviet military symbology represented themselves. (Red is the color of the revolution, after all)
Coaxial scheme of rotors for helis is actually the most effective, 30% of power efficency.
The way you say buoy like BOY throughs me off lol
this is such a sweet game
I'm so torn. Do I keep watching these videos and spoil the scenarios before November? Or hold my anticipation and grit it out for 2 months 😅
Storozhevoy?. I wouldn trust those guys. Just saying ...
They just needed to visit an IKEA.
Valery Sablin was executed 6 years prior so I think we're good...probably.
This looks a lot like Command Modern Operations... but with GRAPHICS! I dunno if the simulation is quite as detailed but either way I know I'm going to spend mmaaaaannnnyyy hours playing this game.
been waiting for the soviet perspective eagerly
I hope unlike other games similar to this, there is a tutorial so more people can get into strategy games like this, me need more strategy
Man this game looks fantastic. Looking forward to playing it and watching your vids on it.
SA-N basically means Surface to Air -Naval, SS-N is Surface to Surface (or sub-surface) which is anti ship, the SAN-14 is in the large box launchers on the side of the superstructure. Also several of your ships have deployable towed or variable depth sonars.
Last time I was this early to a Vulcan video the Sverdlov class was cutting edge technology. Love the game and the vids - Keep it up!
i dont speak Russian but i like how calm the voices sound as opposed to the usual ruski shouting we typically get in war games
Its the voice of Ivan, one of the developers, and the guy that made dotmod for cold waters
Thank you, everyone thats gotten early access has not shown a drop of the soviet side. Can we see the slava and a few escorts hunting a carrier. As that was the purpose of the slava class initially.
I love this!! Can you maybe play a mission with a aircraft carrier??
Love that you can play as the Soviets too
With this, gunner, heat, PC and u-boat all coming out recently its looking like a very good season for vehicle combat!
what games are you referencing mate? keen to know
aim-54 = f-14 = carrier = you're cooked
SA-N-3 will need own platform air/sea search radar’s on and detecting the target to engage! Your EMCOM so no way to target them.
Honesty, I do wonder if we had the missile for it, then I think it might be possible to completely overwhelm their air defences
I am so excited for this game
Must have had it set on easy. Red never even fired.
Can you shoot the airliner? Asking for a Soviet officer
You can! Just make sure you accuse them of doing something threatening. Answering from USS Vincennes.
Hopefully the game will have a long support. I would love to see Falklands DLC or something to do with China
I cant wait to get this game. I hope they give us the ability to play as Royal Navy and other NATO naval forces. I hope there are campaigns against the Soviet that take place in the late 80s, 1990 and/or late 90s. Like a what if tale where the Soviet Union never collapsed like it did in 1991. Last, a campign where one goes against China just like in Cold Waters. I know modders can't wait to get their hands on this game.
The devs have stated that they plan to add the Royal Navy but only after release, since the Royal Navy has such an inventory its too much for them to work on at the moment.
It's probably been said but spreading out missiles is counter to Soviet missile doctrine. You fired everything you had in a big wave to defeat defenses and counterfire. Additionally that Spruance should have probably been prime target, it was the group's DDG.
Spruance is a DD actually, not a DDG. It only has one RIM-7 launcher, which is a point defense missile. Adams and Perry had SM-1s, and are the bigger threat.
@@bobtank6318 True thanks, it's what I meant to say

Thanks for the great content, super hyped for the game, even though the graphics cant keep up with Rule the waves 3 ;)
Have you try Kirov-class battlecruiser? Is one of my favourite.
This looks Amazing !!!! no more realistic mode on war thunder !!! installing NOW !
Wow, with the russian voiceover, thats so cool.
I would love to play that game, hope it'll be released in russian steam too...
This game looks promising, but to be honest the interface js unnecessarily small and hard to navigate, there doesnt seem to be any dynamic weather, there should be commands to automatically change tact on being attacked. The aeroplane AI seems entirely uninterested on going defensive, you should be able to have a radar returns screen. There’s a fair bit of potential here though
mans said tickonderoga lol
Really annoying that half the missiles hit the water line and didn't explode in the water when it would of affected the enemy ships for sure. They need to fix that badly. Either increase the accuracy of the missiles or have them explode in the water near the ship.
Hey Vulcan. Really enjoyed the other video you uploaded on this game with Holly talking about submarine warfare and technical terms. Submarines aren't my strongest area of knowledge, so it really helped educate me a little.
Off topic, but do you think you'll be playing the next Broken Arrow open beta later this month or next whenever it may be. If so, will you upload any online matches you play? Or perhaps new campaign missions if they are releasing those too.
that was an aim-54 phoenix
Does this Hormone helicopter has long range radar? If yes I would put him 2 miles behind my fleet and just pop up to some 1000 feet, flash radar, see what is going on, then dive if needed.
You uh... surely used a lot of missiles for that tiny perry...
A question for Vulcan. Is there a system for detection which actully simulates curviture of the earth? Maybe helicopters and planes can see far away via radars if they were on high altitude, check this out please! This game is actually a more casual CMO in 3D, looks great! Waiting for it, and waiting for mod makers to totaly reshape this game.
The height of the sensor does affect detection range.
I would reccomend setting anti air state to weapons free insteadbof just weapons free if your worried about missiles 25:40
Will you be able to put that Tactical Display on a second monitor?
Great sub 🙂
Are those SA-3 supposed to miss just hitting the water a few meters short or is it some sort of bug?
Are there chances in the game for accidents eg: Helicopter crashing on return to vessel?
Will this game have a dynamic campaign or just scenarios?
Do older players renember "Harpoon" series?

Give me sandbox on this game and I'll have 2 massive fleets going at it
It will a have a mission Editor and heavily supports mods, so have fun. :)
@@Eagleeyesix I think I will have fun with this
General question, what’s the point of trying to ‘hide’ by keeping radar/systems turned off?
I’m thinking in terms of combat flight sim games (DCS), where being sneaky with the radar by turning it off and such make sense cause you can terrain mask, notch etc, making hiding viable.
But ships are the size of buildings? Won’t they be picked up immediately, no matter if the friendly ship is transmitting or not, once an enemy ship turns its radar on? I don’t really get the point of costing yourself the situational awareness of not having your radar on in the hopes that the enemy won’t see your -ship sized- radar signature haha
The only way I can see it working is if there’s a bunch of civilian ships everywhere so that you’d be able to blend into the surroundings, (by not revealing that your a combat ship) but this is very situation specific and I can’t image there being many civilian ships every where during a combat scenario...
Enjoying these videos!!
I've heard it's easier to detect another ship from their radar than from yours. Imagine there's an enemy ship somewhere just beyond your radar range. Your waves are still reaching that ship, and they're strong enough to be detected, just not strong enough to reflect off of it and travel all the way back to your ship. On the other hand, if you're far enough away, the horizon will block everything, so I'm not sure exactly how much a difference there is between detection and counterdetection ranges.
The other factor is, if your radar is off, all the enemy can see is a group of ships, presumed hostile. If all your radars are on, they get a lot more information about what ships you have and how they're arranged.
is there a scenario with the kirov?
You can create your own scenarios with any of the assets in the game. Kirov-class is in the game

@@martinleidel OK sounds good, thanks
Any carrier game play?
I don't get why you're not turn on all of the ship electronics.
Is it because the enemies can spot you easier? But if they're using their radar to see you why not might as well turn on yours too?
Not just that they can spot you, they can also ID who you have where. Radar emissions make it easier to ID not just if there's something there, but WHAT is there. A radar might not be able to tell the difference between two kinds of hostile destroyer, but if that destroyer is running its own radars it's a lot easier to ID what it is.
Edit: Note later in the video how he's looking at what potential contacts are? It's listing out the various emitters that have been ID'd (either confirmed or potential) which is why some ships became ID'd as hostile even without full confirmation: they were emitting radar signals that only USN ships would.
Thanks for explanation
Yeah Somehow ships having some sort of RWR just never went through my head
Turning on any active sensor is like turning on a torch in a dark room. The enemy wil always know you're there first if they have any ESM/rwr. Always best to radiate (use radar) as little as possible, in short bursts. If they're available, AEW aircraft like hawkeyes and helicopters are ideal because they're more replaceable and can be kept a good distance away from your high-value ships. They can also run away fairly well and duck down below the horizon (if loitering high) to throw off things being shot at them. AEW radars also see further because they're higher up.
They can (and should) fire Harpoons down the bearing of your emissions.
@@akd8525 Agree. I would expect a bearing only launch if nothing else unless there's friendly or neutrals down the same bearing. I think a human player for the US side would have cleaned the Soviet's clock in this situation.
how do i play this game

@@RaEndymion001 Uh, no. AIM-54 was carried by the Tomcat.
oh god. between this and stalker 2, im going to be ruined
Why does all these streamers keep going EMCON? The enemy knows where you are at this point. Going EMCON just blinds yourself as far as I can tell
Why did you keep trying to engage the enemy ships with anti-air missiles? You see that you have multiple types of missiles, but are completely fixated on the first type. Please read through their descriptions. You could have engaged from further out much sooner. You even read that SA-N-3 is primarily designed to engage air targets, but didn't then try to find a missile designed for surface targets.
The Goblet is much more reliable to break through than the Silex. The Silex only could hit the perry once it was already sinking. It's too slow otherwise, best bet to be honest is firing both at the same time to overwhelm CIWS, so range doesn't matter. In reality, your impatience would get you killed.
The Shtorm is a multipurpose missile, it can attack surface targets as well. It has a larger ammo reserve and is faster than the Rastrub so it makes sense to engage with it first
