    A few tweaks need to be made for 1.13. The concrete/non-soulsand blocks on the spawn layers need to be replaced with upper halfslabs ( this was established by @Jouke de Boer ) otherwise they don't fall straight through. Also with the new water mechanics the water ( in the entity cramming design ) needs to be moved one block lower so they are not raised; otherwise the witches will clog up in the corners and glitch through the bottom layer. They take suffocation damage but only when bobbing up into the block, it is not enough to kill them because they just drink health potions. With these new alterations I ran the farm for 1hr and it produced 1,913 items. Had I cleared the swamp in a 128 block radius or just slabbed it, slimes wouldn't have spawned and it would produce more. I may run a second test with this in mind.
    EDIT: I completed another 1hr test with spawn-roof blocks on any spawn-able blocks within a 128 block radius of the afk position. It had a yield of 2063 drops.

      From 1.14 you can go back to soul sand. Or at least I had no problems when I did.

      The rates are decreased to a measly simple witch farm with that design just use slime blocks instead of soul sand or use the trapdoor observer design

    This is the first witch farm I've built, and it's great! I did the suffocation version. Witches drop seven items (redstone, glowstone, gunpowder, sugar, bottles, spider-eyes and sticks). I now have double chests stacked up with all of these. No more mining for redstone, or getting blasted off pillars in the nether by ghasts while hacking at glowstone.

    NOTE
    I didn't come up with the concept (hence ilmango added eddxample/mrtiger in the description after the reminder)
    At 7:25 the witch does not count towards the mobcap because persistance required tag is set to true
    For the suffocation solution, put carpets on the hopper to spawn-proof. It would also prevent mobs falling inside the middle of the hopper - if it even happens

    The suffocation works well because the witches take damage and this refreshes the despawn timer.
    (I wrote this WHILE YOU WERE MENTIONING IT! I'll leave it here in case someone missed it.)

    Wanted to build a witch farm, went to look for a good tutorial and my sub feed showed you uploaded this 1 hour before I looked lol what odds. Got mats together, conditioned the area and built it.       Maybe, you would need to have a spawning area, and some sort of filter, there might be better ways but maybe harming potions would work and make only skeletons come through,and a drop to lower the health, the only problem would be spawn chances,and it wouldn’t be very fast,but maybe something to do with nearby areas and entity cramming might work, to increase spawning in that area

      Low effort wither skeleton farm has been done by TangoTek. Definitely not ilmango level efficiency, but by far more low-effort than any of ilmango's designs.

    Hey ilmango, this farm is broken in the 1.13 snapshots because the witches on the full blocks wont fall tru the way you intended them to do.
    This will slow down the farm dramaticly.
    I've also found a fix for this:
    replace the full blocks in the spawning pad with upsidedown halfslabs, this way the whole farm will still work in 1.13, the witches will fall tru normally.

      Works fine for me on 1.13.1 with full blocks. Maybe there was a bug in the snapshots?

      even with halfslabs on floor, witches on bottom lvl just stand there and dont fall unless your super close to farm

    ilmango, this is great! I had messed around with suffocating witches, but always assumed the rates would make it not worth the effort. Some of tests I ran took over 1 minute for some witches to die. So, using magma blocks (with hopper minecart) would be beneficent when building the suffocation method since other mobs would not be able to spawn there, and it could reduce the time for the witches to die.

      I think that is correct. At first run it was about 75% in favor of the magma blocks. Summoning 80 at a time in 4 locations, glitching through the lowest floor and half landed on magma blocks and half on either hoppers, glass, or slabs. I ran 10 tests for each type and simply observed which group died off first . The slabs (at first) were the slowest. So I ran the slabs again, and it was nearly the same. I seems there may be a slight advantage using the magma, though a longer test totaling average death time would need to be run.

      it's probably bad for a normal mob farm, but for the witch farm it works out perfectly with the mob cap.

    1.14.4 suffocation does not seem to work with soulsand anylonger. Farm itself works.

    Hello, I built entity cramming version yesterday in my survival world. One little flaw I discovered. If the witch drop down directly onto water source at the bottom, it will be stuck there going up and down and not taking damage. I placed the water source on a spot witch can't stand on and problem solved. :)

      @@alunarnova Pretty sure the spawning layer was lowered by 1 block, explanation by ilmango from th-cam.com/video/oepBhX2cZzk/w-d-xo.html starts at 5:23. To be absolutely sure, just check out level.dat from NBT explorer the exact bounding box, if you have access to the world or server files.

    I don't know if this broke recently, but the activator rail on top of the observer will make a fast clock which breaks the farm. For those having the same problem the activator rail can be replaced with a regular block with glass on top of that which will fix the farm.

    For the suffocation one, you can add magma blocks in place of the hoppers to speed up the killing and keep from hitting the mob cap.

      Jbot123 good idea, but witches can drink a fire resistant potion, and collection would require minecarts. The lag would probably outweigh the time, but who knows? With witch farms every second counts :)

      GruvaGuy indeed ilmango is one of the best redstoners around and this farm is really efficient, though me being me I redesigned it so it actually works on console, but the efficiency may have suffered a tiny bit.

    I'm really annoyed at youtube for not showing me this video when it came out. Really nice designs! :)
    One question: Since the farm is on a timer anyway, I opted in my fall damage version to not have a hopper floor, but a floor of normal blocks (sea lanterns in my case) and flush the items off those blocks in between witches falling. Works out like a charm, but I'm wondering, what is actually worse lag-wise, a bunch of hoppers or all these water updates?

    I built my witch farm so the witches get to 3 hearts with fall damage and than used magma. I did it this way because if a witch is holding a potion when it dies it sometimes drops the potion, you can get healing, regeneration, fire resistance, and water breathing potions.

      yoavm448 well sometimes it doesn’t mean that. Mango’s flying machine water clearer (the one that doesnt use sand to update a piston) doesnt work in 1.10+ like it says in the title. Also, lots of farms from 1.8 that say 1.8+ broke in 1.9. Needless to say, its not always true

    only issue with cramming is the 2 block gap, witches hit water and swim keeping them trapped in block floor instead washing away, drop the water area down 1 block, have no issues using full blocks with soul sand, witch fall through fine without slabs, version 1.13.2

    Hahah, I got to the pistons at the bottom and went to wire them up and realized everything was off. It took me a solid 10 minutes of looking at freeze frames to figure out I built it in the other orientation, requiring more pistons and observers, but functionally should act the same... I hope. Fingers crossed haha.

    I have a question, is it really necessary to slab out or put water in the area or dig/clear out a specific area to prevent non-witch mobs from spawning (I can't light it up because slimes would spawn)? Another thing is I haven't really researched about witch farms but why do other hostile mobs spawn on the spawning platform? (I triple checked the platforms using some mods to identify that those blocks are intended for witches to spawn and checked if all of it is in the swampland biome)

    Thoughts on a witch farm optimized specifically for making the witches attempt to drink potions as they die so that they might drop them?
    Healing seems straight-forward; just damage them before killing them. This design already does that.
    Could you perhaps drop the witches through a layer of lava to prompt them to drink potions of fire resistance as they plummet to their deaths?
    Is there any plausible but still efficient way to make them drink a potion of swiftness or a potion of water breathing as they're dying?

    sorry for witing late on the video...
    I was curious about the perimeter you spoke about, showed. Provided you actully light up all caves in the nearby area (radius of 14 chunks on our server) you shouldnt need the perimeter right?
    If I still need it, how big should it be or does it depend on the the height of the AFK spot, where on the Y-axle they actully die?

      yes lighting caves and flooding slime chunks is enough. personally I think it's a bit cheaty, since you need to check with spectator mode to be sure you find everything. but if you don't care about that, it's one of the methods that require the least effort to get perfect spawning conditions.

      Depending on the amount of resources, I guess you could set up your massive quarry in the swamp and just slab the bottom, I suppose :)

    Hello, I have got huge Problems with my spawn rates (~20 Items/hour).
    First of all this is how the farm is set up:
    I build the entity cramming version and got an afk- Spot at 183 (looking at Coordinate) right on center build out of normal glass and in some tests with and without water flowing down. The area on the Ground is lit up or filled with Water. I am playing on a small minecraft server with my friends (I think it is a nitrado server with standard settings. I have no admin rights and will not get any help by the admin with commands) but I am playing the moste and also was the only one online while testing. The difficulty is normal and the local difficulty is 1.06
    What I tried so far:
    1. Mob spawning is possible in the swamp down below -> did not accidentally fill up the mobcap. (there are no nametagt monsters in the world and also no chunkloaders)
    2. used different ways to get up to the afk-platform first with ladders in the chunk directly next to the chunk (now removed) than I tryed getting up with a nether portal (2 chunks away) and also swimming up in water (directly on top of the farm).
    3. I tested different heights for the afk-platform (168-183) without any success.
    4. The farm is turned on
    Some of my own thoughts:
    -Can the server site renderdistance mess mess with the spawn distance?
    -how can the rates be sooooo bad? around 1000 Items /Hour should be possible at least even
    under suboptimal circumstances.

    10:54 Is it necessary to have both the row of glass blocks and the row of trap doors that are against each other? It seems you should only need to have one or the other.

    What if you added the magma blocks in suffocation design? Would it lower the mob cap as they cannot drink a health pot while drinking fire resist and it would do a few health point hits?

    could you combine magma blocks and suffocation ? it kills mobs faster than just suffocation and you can run minecarts with hoppers under the magma blocks (which might or might not be cheaper ressource-wise).
    can't you just fill the bottom of the bowl you cleared to prevent mob spawning with water ? to prevent the blinking of mobs instantly spawning and deswpaning.

    suffocation didn't seem to work in the version I built or the world download, rip
    specifically seems to be those that get stuck in a soul sand block, I guess it doesn't suffocate them? Yep, a witch stuck in a 3 high pile of soul sand doesn't take suffocation damage

      I got the same problem but you just have to replace the hoppers with magma blocks, and put a rail system under with hopper minecarts to collect everything.

    ilmango, not that it is needed but couldn't you put 24 minecarts in each spot under the bottom floor of the suffocation to make the killing even faster? I only ask since the lag caused/fps drop only happens when you are in the area and only when you are AFKing.

      Gray Baker you're right that it wouldn't make a difference when you aren't there, but the 1, 512 required minecart would lag the hell out of (or maybe even crash) most computers. The lag would likely drop TPS to the point where the rates would be slashed.

      I saw this comment on another witch farm vi already, so I will tell u what I learned, basically the game thinks that all witch huts spawn on the same level, which is not true, the first platform where the witches spawn is 62, just above sea level, so if your witch hut is taller then normal then follow the tutorial by making the bottom platform on 62 hope this helped

    i want to build this on the server i play on but when i test built it in a single player test world it doesn't work properly the pistons keep firing on a super fast clock type thing, i followed the tutorial and downloaded the fall damage world the download works just fine but the copy i built does not, i am playing in 1.13.2 if that makes any difference on both my server and single player test world and i tested the downloaded world in 1.13.2. I give up. great job on this farm its a great concept hope it works for everyone else.

    Wait a minute... could it be possible to create a giant area of zombies somewhere, and send a splash potion of healing, then harming every 25 seconds or so to create a mob switch? Maybe you could even use witches to automatically throw a potion of harming to heal them, and piston crushers to hurt them... Is this feasible?

      Oh yeah.
      But, again, why would you do that? It's way easier to store the mobs in a not-entity-processing chunk as regular mob switches do. Your method would theoretically work, I guess, but it would be a waste of time and resources to make the healing potions, and getting the witch to throw potions at zombies doesn't sound like something easy, specially if you don't want a player to be around afking as the witches' target (which, in fact, would make the contraption pointless).
      Moreover, the witches would first throw poison potions, which DON'T do anything to zombies before throwing harming ones.
      Maybe you could solve the poison-zombie problem by using another mob sensitive to poison potions and using healing ones to restore their lives periodically.
      And I guess you could maybe make a healing potion farm near the contraption not to waste time and resources getting those, but, again, that would take a player to be afk nearby and would fix the position your contraption should be built in, requiring a entity-processing chunk loader to be built there. This, again, would be superfluously stupid since you could build a not-entity-processing chunk to build a regular mob switch.
      So, no luck this time :(
      But that was a good thought. It's nice to come up with new ideas, even if they end up being useless.

    The floor shifts as normal, but the witches sometimes fail to fall through the blocks. The server runs spigot, if that makes any difference. Any ideas on how to fix this?

      If you have spiders, then you built it in the wrong place. Only witches can spawn in a witch hut bounding box.

      For the entity cramming one you only need to spawn proof a ‘bowl’ 56 blocks in diameter and 8 blocks deep. You can see this at the start of the vid. For the suffocation version it’s even smaller: 36 blocks in diameter and 4 deep. You only need the deep hole and light up caves in a big area for the fall damage version.

      no. it only works if the witches stand on soul sand. you need to push twice to cover every spot

    I've built this farm in a Realms server and it doesn't seem to work when I stand in the AFK spot. I have it hooked up to a glass block elevator. When I fly down I see that there are a bunch of witches in there that then get killed and the items go up the elevator as normal, but this doesn't seem to happen when I am at the AFK spot. I'm not sure if the witches aren't spawning when I'm in the AFK spot or if the redstone is freezing due to the distance, but I would think vertical distance wouldn't have any effect on any redstone in the chunk. Any help would be appreciated!
