    Had a coworker that use to run his angle grinder without the guard until one day when he was using it similar to how you were and the disk broke apart and a chunk became embedded in the side of his hand to the bone cutting a tendon. He doesn't do that anymore. You do what you want but it's something to consider.

      Running a grinder without a gaurd is just stupid.
      If it breaks, you're more likely to take out someone working near you, than it hitting yourself.

    The ol cabover reminds me of my childhood, both parents were/are truck drivers, and I grew up in a truck, when I was four I was riding in the jump seat while my dad backed into a dock, he had his door opened leaned out watching the positioning of the trailer, so I thought I would give dad a hand and look out my side to make sure he was in good shape, I grabbed the door handle and pulled, the door flew open and I went head first outta the jump seat, I face planted the divider curb that was there, and broke my nose, knocked me out, had a concussion, and 30 something stitches! Nothing like the good ol days in a cabover!!

    The length of the brake chamber rod does matter BIG!!! You lose braking efficiency if the slack adjuster goes over 90 degrees to the rod. It won’t pass DOT if it does. Also, it can screw up the adjuster pin if it’s over extended.

    With brakes applied, the slack and chamber rod should make a 90* angle. So if you look at it and were to put a square on it from the center of the s-cam down to the center of the large clevis pin to the chamber rod should make 90*. Hopefully that makes sense. And this is DOT.

    Bruce, you should look into a direct to metal 2k primer. there are some that are ok to use over the bare aluminum and would work a lot better than the self etching that you've got. you may run into issues with the acid in the self etching primer reacting with the paint that's already on the truck. plus the etching primer isn't meant to go over body filler. like the way this project has ended up so far. cant wait to see what the end result will be.

  • @davejohnson3474

    I saw the palm sander on the previous vid and laughed. If it was me i'd 180grit and 320grit the cab down. Etch prime the bare metal parts then filler prime the whole cab. Guide coat the cab then fill any low spots reprime etc then 400grit or 500grit then good to go with your topcoat. I'm not a painter but i've done my own car and i'd love to have a go at the truck its cool. Wear a proper airfed or 2k filter mask and wear painters suits with hoods 2k is not good on the skin lol

People don't get it, eye, hearing protection, dust, grinder and safe ladder use. Fall Arrest and restraint. It never ends. Safety and First Aid seem to be a necessary evil on sites. The workers figure all we do is watch movies or porn in the FA shack. They swipe airhorns, discharge or take 5lb Extinguishers, smoke inside the building.

    Your there and replacing the "pots" or "brake pots" (not brake canisters), I would have phased the single pots out and changed them to maxi-pots instead (maxi-pots are twin "service brake" pots and "parking brake" pots built into one unit. Always nicer to have the tractor held stationary by two axles as apposed to just one axle when you park it, also a very easy upgrade to the existing system. Goes over much better with the Scale Masters and D.O.T. Inspectors when there's four brakes holding a tractor still than just two. "Quick release valve" or "relay valve", but generally known as a "relay valve", it allows lower air pressure to control higher pressure air to the pots during braking. Yeah, those older tractors were painted with lead based paints, I wouldn't piss around sanding it, just hit it with commercial paint stripper and scrape it off as apposed to sanding (seeing masks are not important in Florida when sanding paint and standing in a dust cloud). Then your down to the base metal quicker and easier, this way you can neutralize the stripper and then go to primer and filler without all the hassle. Just observations..

      @@davidcaskey4669 If you have "air", no "air" your shit out of luck. I think they may have even changed the "rules" requiring brake upgrades to Maxi-Pots (don't quote me on that though). It comes down to what is the safest process without human intervention or in the case of loss of air pressure.

    • @davidcaskey4669
      @davidcaskey4669 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@zukowski2023 if you lose air pressure the spring brake will apply to tractor and also the trailer buzzer should go off at 60 psi to let you know there's a problem. But if you tear on of the maxi off by hitting something in the road the air will empty and uzzer comes on faster than you can think about it and breaks will set

    • @zukowski2023
      @zukowski2023 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@davidcaskey4669 Yeah, I am more than aware of how "spring brakes" work. What's your point? I am saying if he's doing the brakes, upgrade to four wheel Maxi-Pots and be done with it, it's smart, it's safer and he's upgrading so why not do them all and be done with it.. As it stands he only has one axle with spring brakes, why not be smart and do the other as well.

    • @davidcaskey4669
      @davidcaskey4669 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@zukowski2023 my point is the back axle is locked wheels won't move because the power divider locks the rears together when the brakes are set. You don't have to move the divider lever on the dash it automatically locks it when the brakes are set you know when you pull out the red and yellow buttons on the dash or if it's older red,blue and yellow

Sanding without some sort of dust mask? no hearing protection? and no safety glasses? when using an angle grinder. I've seen zip cut discs shatter well in use. In not going to get into the fact you don't have a guard on it which will protect you if that did happen. I'm not Safety Susie but those things dont take anytime. Better to take literally 15-20 seconds then walk around deaf, blind and with COPD. Just a tad of professionalism and safety
