    Interesting video that shows sometimes it’s the thing most would suspect last. Solenoid? Nope. Button. Nope. Fuse? Nope. Connector? Nope. Fuse box? Nope. Door flex? Nope. Unmolested factory loom? Yup! These cars are fairly bulletproof being based on the Crown Vic and 200k miles is not uncommon. It was a sad day when the platform went out of production.

      Automotive theory 101: Did you notice the Keystone "CAPA" stickers on what looked like the back of the bumper cover. Could the problem/chafing been caused by a previous collision? At the vehicle's mileage/age, it would be hard to prove, but definitely a possibility.
      These are/were great cars. I owned a distant predecessor - a 1977 Ford LTD II which was a great vehicle for its era. It always started, never left me stranded, low purchase price, and low maintenance costs. I drove that car until there was nothing left. I miss the old boat...

      John Rose I did notice the stickers and other clues this doesn’t seem like a typical 200k vehicle. There’s some good close up video of the door hinge area and it looks more like 20k Miles in the Arizona desert not 200k in the sloppy slushy salt encrusted vehicle destroying South Main Auto rust belt. So, as some say of tired high mileage female models, she’s clearly had work done.

      Billy Brady Jr but now you can buy a Ford with an Ecoboom turbo highly stressed and unreliable engine with every last penny shaved out of its design so they’re prone to failing in spectacular ways even when just out of warranty. Just search for Ecoboost fail. Failure = Ford Ecoboost.

    On a wiring diagram, T/O stands for Take Out, which is where wires branch out from the main harness. Example: The green wire you pulled out of the harness to connect to the overlay wire would be considered a T/O. It can be one wire or a bunch.

    I still believe overlaying a single circuit is still an acceptable repair. I can imagine the labor involved in taking off the front fascia and other components would still cost more than having to make a second repair in the future in the same area. Especially on a winter beater in that condition the less you can touch the better! Great video SMA!

  • @stephenrobson6480
    @stephenrobson6480 4 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    Before watching the video, my first thoughts were it's nice when not having to deal with electronic problems and diagnosing things and you can get on with fixing a purely mechanical issue. But of course there's no pull handle and cable, it's more luxurious to push a button instead of pulling a lever and over complicate things.

    • @amak1131
      @amak1131 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      A steel cable could also have a similar issue. This is one time where the circuit is so simple, it is a moot point honestly.

    • @michaelsim5726
      @michaelsim5726 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      In the rust belt it’s common for the little pull tabs in the floor to just rot right off and either not able to pull the cable or salt gets in from your boots and the cable doesn’t move either which is a job and a half pulling the carpet to replace the cable. Not a euro fan but a lot of euro cars have the push on the opposite side of the gas door to open and a little actuator pin to lock with key fob worst case with those peel the inner carpet inside the trunk by the gas door and easy to get at. They all have their problems.

    • @Simomotard33
      @Simomotard33 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      And put the damn Switch on the door so if some wires in the door breaks, you wont be able to full your tank

    • @ralfie8801
      @ralfie8801 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The good thing here is it was neither an electronic issue or a mechanical one. I hate dealing with electronics, ,automotive computers and modules suck eggs, it's a whole lot easier dealing with a plain old electricity issue like Dr. O had here.

      Or on the really old VW bugs, open the front hood and check the gas with a factory supplied wood measuring stick, really-!-- late 50's and very early 60's VW bugs had NO gas guage, just a reserve lever you flipped over if you ran out of gas-! Couldnt believe it when I saw that, also they ran the windshield washers from the air stem in the spare tire - good (old) german engineering.
