Just so you know, DCS has said their upcoming update will be optimized for VR and are saying they've gotten 50+% more performance so far and hope to get a good bit more before it releases. May need to do another VR review of the game soon.

I just started the VR game during your break - but saw a few of your videos giving me important hints and facts for my purchase decision. Good to see you again, I appreciate your videos and their style! Welcome back!
that screen door effect and subpixel stuff was most important to me, as I am most interested in pimax for racing/flying games, and the demos of other headsets I've tried haven't been quite good enough to buy, for me. regular 5k+ or the 8k for me!
Thank you for this very indepth first impressions video. I absolutely loved your lens compare photos especially the macro ones, no other vr youtuber comes close to your very dedicated and deep analysis of the different headsets! Good Job!
Vive owner here with 2080ti. Got three options atm... 1: Budget option, knuckles only. 2: Near full upgrade, switch everything to Index (headset and knuckles) except base station. 3: Go nuts, get knuckles and Pimax... ummm..... gonna have to wait for your reviews to decide.
aaron4820 What did you decide? With this graphic card you can basically choose the headset you want!! I have a 1080 (not Ti 😢) and I want to buy the index but I want to be sure it's the correct choice... The PIMAX 5K XR on paper looks better but I don't know if it is in reality....! If you have some insights let me know ;) Cheers!
OLED makes a lot of sense for VR. Those screens usually have the issue of light burning. But there is no static desktop, or HUD, to cause that burn in with VR use. Almost every game I've played has floating menu's that are not stuck to the HMD. And when you're not in VR it doesn't get used for a desktop.
I loved the introduction of this video... LOL, it was very funny and entertaining; and the information on the PIMAX 5K XR OLED VR headset was very useful, powerful, deep and informative... Wow, very needed video on the PIMAX 5K XR OLED VR... Great video, well done, sir... well done, indeed... keep up the good work, and welcome back, my friend... welcome back !!!
What a opening sequence! Well done SweViver. That was hilarious! And welcome back! Although I wish you were back a little sooner cause now I want to sell my Pimax 5K+ and get the ER!
Halloj!
The circuit board has been confirmed to have separate backlights - OLEDs don't need backlighting. However, they're some crazy-good ones from BEO or JDI.
@Legion The main reason many are excited about Valve jumping in is to get rid of the gouging that the SteamVR community has had to endure for years. HTC is an awful company and controllers cost triple what they should. It's not a gen 2 headset, more like gen 1.5. It'll have a much better company backing it than the Vive though. Honestly, I'm more excited about Pimax headsets being mass produced and maybe lowering in price. Index excites me more for controllers/base stations.
Awesome intro video, the XR looks like a better choice then the 5k+ for myself anyways. Now to get a hold of Pimax (been trying for 2 months) so they ship the right headset.
I think I'm going with the 5k Plus as my first Headset so I can appreciate the OLED when it gets cheaper and better. Also thx for the video. Always a pleasure :)
Great Video Mate. Im still on the Vive Preorder Day one Version. and still love it. Now im really excited for the Valve Index. But still will watch every Pimax video cause i love those kind of Videos of yours! Thank you for that! And welcome back!
Hey I'm currently trying to decide on getting the HTC Vive Pro or the Valve Index headset. Same resolution, but index uses LCD RGB vs pro's AMOLED. Having a real tough time deciding which one to get. And maybe also Pro Eye? No idea what improvement the eye tracking would make. What do you think would make the best experience for VR Chat? Index or Pro/Pro-Eye
Do you think you will make newer lens for sale since it's easy to take them out to correct the blurryness at the edges? And do you think the pimax eye tracking module will be decent enough?
Just can't do LCD in VR, I tried the Index and it just doesn't look right to me. Oled in my eyes is superior in quality, especially in darker environments
Thank you for such an in-depth review! Surprisingly, this review can be a TV buyer's guide as tvs now may use LCD or OLED technology and it's really hard to pick THE right one :)
very informative ;) think im gona hold off for another year and see what new tec gets announced. and 8K OLED with that eyetracking rendering thing would be nice. Also does the pimax line have build in head cam for room veiw?
You mentioned in the 8K 5K+ review that the Virtual Desktop technology was not quite there yet for a sharp desktop experience. Is this set better? I'm still looking for a head mounted monitor to run my desktop and 2D PC games/media through. Also does it directly connect to be used as a second monitor or would it only work through network streaming?
pictures don't really translate well when talking about screen door effect at all. I've used the oddysey oled and the screen door effect there is barely noticeable, what is a dramatic change is the colors and black levels, so my question is: is the screen door effect on the XR more noticeable or less noticeable than on the oddysey ?
@kelvinfried chicken amazing. Thanks! I havent watched all the way through yet. Probably stoppes at 10 or 11min. Will continue to watch on my PC later. Thanks!
I'd like some much to purchase the Pimax 5k+ VR headset for my racing simulator because of the wide FOV. I will not likely purchase whilst there's some faults in all areas with Pimax. Hardware, Software, Customer Service and accessories. Have been reading comments here and other sources. They have to get their act together if they want more customers.
THanks man, Ive missed you too - and missed VR of course as well :) Been some bad months but hey Im here at last :) Yeay the RE might be your best bet. I hope to have a look at it soon btw, and do some videos about it. Cheers
Do they give you the option to change the blacks and grays reproduction, say by deciding which gray values are crushed into absolute black and which gray values (and above) are pushed upwards?
So Im getting ready to order, but I just cant decide which one to go for - the 5k Plus or the XR! If you could choose only one, which one would it be SweViver ?

Just bought my Pimax together with my HTC Vive Controllers, only to discover that they don't want to show up anywhere in Pimax or SteamVR. Only blue static light is shown on the controllers and after a few seconds it turns off. Help
I'm so happy with my 5K+ I won't buy any other headset until it's Oled full RGB, and of course WIDE FOV. I don't see any distorsions, only a little bit at the beginning and they are 100%gone, and with the latest update with light, colors and contrast settings it's almost perfect
Iam sorry but what light color and contrast settings are you talking about? My piTool is version 2.1.255.193 and it says its the latest version. The color and contrast settings is the last thing iam missing in Pimax 5k+. VorpX has color saturation setting and colors looks amazing when you use it. PiTool needs to add it ASAP!
@@MaroshBRuNo it's a beta version, you can find it on the Pimax Forum; PiToolSetup_121_R211_beta. Just install the latest Nvidia drivers before you install it

One thing I don't understand about this black craze: why can I see the difference on my lcd screen? It shows the difference in black, so it can produce it, right?
Hi Swe, thx so much for the review. I am a huge Elite Dangerous fan and am considering to upgrade to Pimax from my Oculus Rift. Which one would you recommend most and why?
thanks for this test, glad to see you back ! ok so one step further has been done: color, contrast and lightning has been improoved, now they've got to work on sharpness, we want razor cut image to finally have a sharp reading of everything. I use X-plane 11, DCS and Elite dangerous only, and wait patiently to a technology that bring that to us. (as soon as CG can handle those tech in a reasonable framerate-not for the moment: even a 2080 TI with my I9 9900k at 5.1ghz can run things like I want.)
Great review yet again. Now a question. I have the 5K + my Pitool settings show V1.0.1.109 when I hit the update button it states I am up to date. Yet you are showing V1.0.1.121 and V2.1.255.211. I looked on the pimax site and the only download they have is for Version:v1.0.0.109 am I missing something? Do I have the latest or not? If not how/where do I get it.
So, I need help. I'm trying to find a viable head mounted monitor. I do not care about VR although I will use it, but what I NEED is a head mounted monitor (long unnecessary story as to why). The Virtual Desktop would be fine through a VR headset... but, the resolution is not good enough. I tried PSVR, blurry mess. I tried Oculus Go and it was less clear than setting my 15" laptop to 480p and walking 20 feet away from it (literal test). I just need to know if the Pixar XR is actually clear on 2D images in a comparable way to 15" 1080p monitor. The head mounted monitor would solve two problems for me, keeping sun glare out, and not having my laptop on my lap. If these do not have good 2D quality then I will have to find another solution, probably involving a portable touchscreen monitor...
How is VRchat with the Pimax 8K headset. Being that the field of view is so high on the Pimax 8K headset it must really give you the illusion that your Avatar is your real body compared to all of the other VR headsets. have you ever made a video yet with VRchat using the pimax yet? If so can you give me the link or if not can you make a video showing how amazing it is seeing yourself inside an avatar using the Pimax 8K headset.

If so can you give me the link or if not can you make a video showing how amazing it is seeing yourself inside an avatar using the Pimax 8K headset.
@SweViver Will they release 8k BE / OLED?
As always very nice review Martin, thank you :)
What is the dungeon crawler game where you were using a club and walking thru tunnels? Is that Carnage Chronicles?
Such cute editing!!
Oh man, so many questions, such a tease! My wish list from you: List specs, features, pros and cons across all HMD's on market (Pimax 5K+, Pimax 5 XR, Pimax 8K, Vive, Vive Pro, Oculus, etc.). Give your opinion on which one YOU prefer for different applications (i.e. Sims, Movies, Dark Horrors, etc.).
Hes back! :)
😄
@@SweViver Love the new editing style :)
