That tank is absolutely stunning. The amount of maintenance needed to keep that tank as spotless as it is must be very time-consuming, but wow what a sight. This is an aquarium I could sit in front of and be mesmerized for hours a day. Thank you for bringing this to us!
Obviously i know nothing about your financial situation but my advice would be to not buy intermediate tanks, save up your money until you can afford the largest tank that you can realistically accomodate in your home.
@@comment.highlighted You're welcome i currently am running 9 tanks the largest of which is 300 uk gallons, had i had more restraint there is a local manufacturer of 900 gal fiberglass ponds with viewing panels and i would have had 2 - one for predators and one community.
Great video! Love these tetras. I currently have 60 Cardinals along with 10 Embers in a 75g. The beauty and behavior if the tetras in a larger school is stunning.
Amazing. Thank you Jason. This is my favourite Tetra of all time. I'm planning to have a go at breeding them next year. I currently keep them with angelfish and corydoras 😊
That 3,000 gallons (which are about 12,000 litres for Europeans!) is absolutely stunning. I also kept Cardinals with Pearl Gouramis and the combination worked very well - Just like Discus, they're relatively large, but peaceful, small-mouthed fish which won't be able to gobble down the Cardinals, thus making them potentially excellent tankmates. Also, their colors perfectly complement one each other.
Great video! I'm going to rescaping my 10 gallon. I have a Rosette Sword. It is actually a nanoish sword. They only grow to around 7 inches tall. It would be cool to see it on the small scape.
I have been keeping 14 cardinal tetras in a 50 gallon tank for quite a long time and my water parameters would usually at 7.8-8.0 PH, 27 to 29 degree Celsius and NO3 of 10-20ppm in a heavily planted tank. They prefer subdued lighting and thrive better in a bit calm water. With them are my shrimps, nerite snails, glow fish tetras, otocinclus, hill-stream loaches and glow light danios. Put them in RGB lighting and you will be amazed!
they are one of my favorite fish, i started now a 81 gallon tank and i might use cardinal tetra, ember tetra, mosquito Rasbora , i love nano fish. Thanks for sharing the vid about that amazing tank, just wow. 🥰
Thanks for the great information on a beautiful fish! I have found they have a more gentle temperament than most others tetras. I have sround 20 with around the same number of black neons who are more assertive and faster to food. Black neons occupy the top half of the tank while the cardinals school around the bottom half. I did have 10 flame tetras with them but they were far to active and assertive that they caused havoc within the aquarium!!!
Cardinal tetra do much better in soft water and low pH but I’ve personally kept them at a pH of 7,5 in quite hard water for over 6 years. I have a book that says they can be kept in even harder water for 5 years. So I do believe most people will have a good time keeping them 🙂
That tank is awesome! I too would like to keep Cardinal tetras. But my water is too hard. And my PH is higher. This is why I lean to towards wanting the Neon tetras.
Hi Jason, love this video. The Cardinal Tetras are my favourite tropical fish. I am looking to get a 45 gallon tank to house Cardinals as my centre piece. The local area has a Ph of 8.0-8.2 and very hard water. If the Cardinals have been tank breed with these parameters? Would it be better for to keep the same parameters for the fish or set the tank up more favourable for their normal parameters? This would mean a change in water parameters from the shop to my tank, would this be too much of a change for Cardinals?
Thanks Jason. Is this your tank? Also, I have small green terrors which I need your advice on. They both open their mouth wide and shake their heads few times and may do this several times In one episode. They are seperate when they do this. My water parameters are good and nitrates are below 20ppm. They eat, swim and are coloured well. Don't seem stressed either. Advice?
@@PrimeTimeAquatics OK. All fish including Oscars had ich few months ago no signs since. Used salt and temperature and ICH disappeared. The Oscars do a strange rapid mouth breathe on occasions however they aren't gasping for air nor are they hanging around the top of tank. All fish seem well. I know there could be residue of ICH in tank however not treating the tank with meds because fish aren't showing signs other than strange behaviour on occasions. Thanks for reply Jason
I do have a 5 gallon tank with live plants but I have 3 glowlight tetras with 1 neon and 2 cardinals and do have a couple Cory’s and snails for cleanup I understand 20 is recommended and 6 minimum but is that 1 neon and 2 cardinals good for a healthy tank for them?until I upgrade ofc and get more cardinals and neons?
I know you said on the video that the least tank size for Cardinal tetras would be a 20 gallon. I only have a 15 gallon tank, sigh. How many can I put in if there is only going to be Cardinals tetras in the tank?

So i won't or wouldn't overcrowd the entire aquarium... and hope to add more plants... planning to make two bonsai tree's in each end... then a little something on the middle... hope i can send you a photo and also a video... 😊😊😊
I have always wanted these but idk if they would die or not. Neon tetras die so easy so I gave up years ago on them. I have a large school of giant danios, two angelfish one swordtail and five male cherry barbs . I think I'm gonna just add more male charry barbs for extra color . Mine are old I have had all five of them for 5 years now and never had any issues very Hardy fish and they are a beautiful blood red . The tetras are not cheap and I'd hate to bring them home and they die .
The water conditions of their natural habitat are generally soft and acidic. The cardinals in particular don’t adapt well to water greater than neutral.
What is not told about this setup is how difficult it is to maintain discus in such a heavily planted tank. That is why you will often see discus in a minimally planted tank.. probably with some driftwood and anubias.

That tank is awesome! I too would like to keep Cardinal tetras. But my water is too hard. And my PH is higher. This is why I lean to towards wanting the Neon tetras.
Beautiful tank. Any idea what kind of light system was being used?
I have no idea, but Kessil lights will give that shimmering effect.
What is the name of the fish shown in time 8:38min(small cream coloured fish with a big red spot on its head)?
Rummy Nose Tetra?
Looks very nice. I like the algae growing on the background. Do you know what material it is made of? Maybe plastered sand?
That would be my guess?
Hey what about a top tight schooling fish video ?
would you say the standard neon tetra needs the same water parameters too?

The water conditions of their natural habitat are generally soft and acidic. The cardinals in particular don’t adapt well to water greater than neutral.
