I actually did this challenge, the key to beating yharon is to have tons of defense accessories and only 1 or 2 offensive. Never get greedy, and make sure that no matter what, even after attempt 24, curse out yharon with all of your might.
That reminds me of when I defeated nightmare king grimm in hollow knight, in the attempt I defeated him, I was mentally insulting him and saying that I was better than him.

Btw you can completely counter yharon’s dashes by dashing towards him with the shield. Every shield which gives a dash let’s you shieldbash to deal damage and also gain contact damage immunity.
I loved the scal fight, the hype the music the flash back to WoF, Moon lord, yharon and crafting the first flamethrower. Amazing! One of my favorite challenges ive watched so far!

apparently, I think in honor to this challenge, a mod called "calamity flamethrowers" was made and almost every boss drops one, it's a 33% chance on expert and 20% on classic
Seeing people finish this game, with the calamity mod on, while limiting themselves to a single weapon type, let alone a single damage type... it is always fun to see. Managing to beat the game with such an under represented weapon type as the flamethrowers is pretty dang impressive. Thanks for the videos, they were fun to watch.
I`ve just stuck at my flamethrower playthrough on 1.5 Calamity. After an update that challenge became even more intense. Pre-hardmode is pretty easy, thanks to Dragoon Drizzlefish (which is high-tier weapon that you can just fish up as soon as you get minimum gear to go into brimstone crags because... reasons?). But at the start of hardmode, game gives you meowthrower and say : "Go kill some buffed mechs with this short-ranged thing, or try to beat up Calamitas`s summons and maybe they drop a brand new flamethrower just for you, but a chance of that is 10%. Oh, and also we decided to rebalance hardmode ores, so u need to face bosses wearing Palladium armor, good luck!". So it took like 35 tries to kill Skeleton Prime (sometimes i couldn`t even kill him before sunrise) and get vanilla`s flamethrower that surprisingly was pretty decent at this point. The endgame is fucked up, problems starts from Yharon`s fight: the Cleansing Blaze`s DPS is very good, but ofc it`s short range is very big problem when you fighting enemy that you NEED to get away from as farther as you can, so i used Halley`s inferno that deals twice less damage. And what do you get after defeating Yharon? New armor and... nothing more, because photoviscerator was moved onto post-Exomechs tier. SCal is not that hard, because damage is not very important, i`m just bad at dodging. But Exo-mechs are freaking unkillable with such garbage weapon. And so i dont recommend to play this challenge until devs decide to rebalance flamethrowers, or maybe at least add one as a Yharon`s drop.

Took me almost 40 attempts to kill DoG, and only 2 to kill Yharon, idk why.

I`ve just stuck at my flamethrower playthrough on 1.5 Calamity. After an update that challenge became even more intense.
