Billy, thanks for the review. I watched this after i got my SE. Purpose for the drone is why i bought this one. Im a gold prospecter in Australia, i use it to look for good ground. Park the car on a track surrounded by trees. Lift off above the tree line camera pointing down. Fly around till i see good ground then bring it home.
Also better lighting at night....and maybe some more leds on the bottom. Yeah not much though- I bet a "mini3" doesn't even exist.... it'll be more like a Mini 2S

I think the price is right in that sweet spot where beginners who just want a stable camera in the air can justify the purchase, and if the lower performance increases the life of the motors that could be a bonus to some.
Good review and good points as always. I still have the original Mini and use it for close flying like roof inspections but not on windy days and not very far away lol. I use the Air 2S for cinematic and professional grade footage. I think that DJI had a bunch of spare Mini parts and decided to put them together and as you say we have the "Frankenstein" Mini SE. The SE wasn't supposed to be sold in the US but the price made it an affordable option.
I think they're all good, but personally I would go with the mini 2. It simply has it all, even a better more comfortable controller? Thanks for sharing

Main reason for purchasing: taking drone pics and video for real estate. Another review on TH-cam of the Mini options (Stewart and Alina) suggested that the Mini was adequate for real estate. The Mini was less than half the cost of a Mini 2 so I decided to start cheaper and try things out. Yeah, the Mini 2 sounds like it has some nice additional capabilities. I may not need them to take property photos and videos at close range.
I’ve got a Mavic and I have an SE coming from eBay. The Mavic was a fly more combo, which I paid 219 for the SE is not so much a combo but it has some other features to it and that I paid 244 so let’s see
my mini se i got for christmas came with all the goodies, 3 chargeable battery packs with charger and a bag sd card all cords, spear propellers manuals and all . I think you got the cheap version? i love it! i think they done a good job building it
The Autel Nano+ is right for me. 😃🧡🧡🧡 I like my Mini 2 but hardly amazing….but we’re spoiled now in actuality it is an amazing little drone. Nano+ will be better than all I’m confident and NO geofencing for the win!

thanks I'm a little bit confused, about bateries, they're not interchengeable and the Mini 1 just have a micro-USB port istead of USB C of the SE and the 2. how long does it takes to charge one and another by comparisson..
The Mini 2 is great but I just hate the large controller as it defeats the purpose of portability while I can just slide the others in my pocket without issue.
Maybe a parent wants to get the kids into flying but doesn't want to blow $600 in case of an accident, etc. Or maybe a college age amateur photographer thinking about getting some aerial photos but can't quite shell out for a mini2. Going to jump off topic here - Question: the camera on the Spark, is it the same that is on the mini series? There are times I feel like the photos/footage look better coming from the Spark. I don't like the connection with Mavic Mini or SE. I was flying between trees and I could see the drone it was like 300 meters away and I lost connection. Switching to Mini 2.
I wanted to buy a mini 2 then saw the SE was almost $200 cheaper. The range is really good on the 2 and the 4K camera also looks good so I might buy the bundle on Amazon with the case and drone stuff for $600
So they more like release the SE to consume the stock they had from Mini1 like PCB, camera and gimbal setup with all the cables and electronics from Mini1, fitted into the new adapted Mini2 case and batteries with new motors as well. Smart move if you ask.
I have the DJI Mavic Mini and the DJI Mini 2. I prefer the DJI Mini 2. Stronger motors and better video and photo. Great little drone. Great comparison Billy. Thanks.
sounds like they had a surplus of mini 1 internals and needed to make room for mini 2 and the next mini. So instead of taking a loss they remarketed it.
Hey dude!!! I love love love the Mini 2 for the OS2 and Smart Controller compatibility. It worked great for me in Scotland for the 2 weeks I was there too! So stealthy and capable.
I think the reason for the SE model comes down to one thing. The original is so terrible in even moderate wind that they felt the need to make an urgent fix for that terrible flaw.
Mini SE is good for beginners, besides the specs are not the same as the mini 2, but it can still be considered to buy a mini SE, because dji products are always the best for releasing drone products.
This is my first drone, and I live and will use it in a forested areas much of the time, will I be disappointed with the SE and add a little more $ and go for the better transmission ability of the 2? Camera for my purposes of the SE is fine. Thanks for the video and recommendations.

I ended up with a mini and didn't know what the differences were until this video. As a first time flyer, I'm sure it will do fine for me. If the weather ever gets right, I'll get to see if I like it.
I was gonna buy the Mini SE and an extra battery for like $361 but then decided to look on marketplace and found a Mini 2 Fly More Combo in great condition for $330....so needless to say I'm now a proud owner of a Mini 2
Pretty sure the mini SE is about getting more people to buy one of their drones. All the big electronics stores sell drones around here. But I've only ever seen 3 drones fly around. And two of those where those professional big ass drones. One from some tourist company, and the other was the water and heating company, flying around at night, looking for leaks with thermal. The last was some elderly dude, just wushing about on a field. Drones haven't really caught on in my part of the world. So I'm guessing they need some cheaper alternatives, that's still better than those really cheap toys.
Do you know how to fix error code 40011 on the mini 2 i just got it and flew it a couple of times and now the gimbal is crooked and doesnt stay level with the horizon
if you talk more about the specs and differences this video would be shorter. I personally don't care about the release timings and dji not selling directly and perfect gifts whatever. Jesus! why are youtube videos these days contains so much inessential unnecessary bits.
You could tell this dude did the bare minimum research about the SE. DJI did heavy campaigning for SE targeting the emerging market for novice drone enthusiasts especially outside US. SE has proven to be popular in developing countries supplying their emerging market for enthusiasts and vloggers. Dude should expand his scope and realize that there are actual peope outside the country where he lives.

Personally, I guess the Mini 2 has nothing else to prove anymore. It's been really great but the other two aren't bad options at all.
They can up the resolution and avoidance systems

I've seen lightly used SEs for as little as 340 cad... that's actually amazing

The mini se flies much much better in the wind. I think that's the biggest difference.
Concerning the Mini SE, There is a fly more combo. 3 batteries, the hub, case etc. All great Mini drones though.

It is likely the SE uses up stocks of the soon to be obsolete controller and other parts. The Mini 2 Occusync is going to control.

It's pretty good. The mini and SE are on Wi-Fi. The two connects a lot better. Totally worth the extra.

Mini 2 and mini se share the same and the mavic mini battery does work in the mini 2 but is not recommended
It's a Mini 1 with better batteries, motors and better software for a lower price. What is there to complain about?
The downside of a mini se is with wifi... Of you stand on a wifi coverage area, youll have a hard time maintaining connection to the drone..
i heard someone saying, that the SE was specially released 4 the malasian market. But don´t know how this makes sense anyway haha...
