      It’s not a contact sport. It’s golf but with discs. If a 60 year old retiree can play golf, why can’t someone in their late 30s play disc golf? Paul McBeth is 33 and still playing. Age doesn’t mean anything. Don’t give up. Don’t listen to the nay sayers

      OMG..Don Shin picked it up at 79 and played to 100. It’’s for everyone. I’m 50 (learned at 48) and plan to play for my whole life. Once you learn the proper way to throw you can play par golf on any course. Video yourself often and work on one thing at a time.

    I bought my first set of discs and started throwing in the park literally just last week. You are absolutely right about my first throw looking how you threw it and I also figured it was a problem. I actually ended up fixing it on accident - I was copying James Conrad’s pre-shot lineup and noticed his wrist was pointed downwards as you described. Tried throwing with my wrist locked downwards and had way better results!

    I'm really glad you are covering the positive aspects of nose up. On the technical courses in the northeast where I play, the ability to throw discs nose up, air bounce, ect... is absolutely key for certain lines, even with faster discs. The understable fairway driver nose up shot is a very unique and useful shot to go straight and hit a tight tunnel, to me at least.

    I was gonna say it in the Facebook group, but I will here too: I’m glad that you ended the video by saying ‘get it in the field’. It’s so important to get out there. TH-cam is great for information, but it doesn’t tell you what you’re doing wrong. Field work, local pros, and video recordings will though.

    I starting playing like 5 years ago, stopped playing after the end of the summer that year and just started playing again a month ago. My body really wants me to throw nose up now its the most frustrating thing in the world to correct now that I'm actively trying to fix my form. Part of me wants to go back to 5 years ago when I was accidentally doing things right and throwing mediocre instead of trying to fix my form and throwing poorly lol. This video and part 1 really helped ive made more progress towards improving after watching them than I did before. Now I just need to watch the rest of the series

    If you are angling your wrist forward and still think you are throwing nose up. Subconsciously you may be relaxing your wrist near the release point. I make a conscious effort to maintain my downward wrist angle until I’ve completed my follow through 👍

  • @nickfotopoulos5323
    @nickfotopoulos5323 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    My progression was exactly like this. I finally fix it, but had no idea what I did that made the difference until I watched this. Nose angle is also important to get right before you try hyzer/anhyzer, because neither of them will do what you expect if you nose angle is wrong...except for maybe the most exaggerated hyzer/anhyzer angles.

  • @weirdman22

    Definitely going to be a tough thing for me to change habit wise. That first part about throwing low to compensate for how I threw really applies to me. I'm constantly in awe of people who throw much higher then me and can get well over 300 feet. When I would throw that high, I'd barely get 150, so I threw lower and lower until I could MAYBE get 250 at best with a mid.

  • @TobyMacNewsboys

    Awesome video Danny! I love the way you explain your ideas. Telling an amateur that their release angle is too nose-up and they have too much hyzer could be confusing, but using the coffee cup pouring example is a great way to illustrate it!

    Hey Danny, great to see you back. You asked for topics to cover, and one thing I am struggling to understand, if there is a sweet spot for flipping disc up (and over). What I mean is: do I throw an understandable mid with 15 - 20 degree hyzer and 50 - 60 % power and it will flip to flat, or is it more like 12 degree and 53 % power to flat and then 55% power it will turn over? Don’t know if I explained my question very good, but in general I wonder if there are windows to flip up and if yes how big are they (depending on the disc)

    Pretty sure it was in an earlier video but, can you go over 'Compression' or how one Compresses then releases while moving through their drive? Is that relating to a crouch while engaging your core in a particular way to coil like a spring then release that energy into your release or something else alltogether? What can you do to improve or modify compression for positive gain? 🤔

    One tip I usually give to beginners when they can't tell if they're throwing nose up or not, is to look at the disc while it's flying and if they can see the stamp on top of the disc then it's because they're throwing nose up. The more they can see the top of the disc the more nose up their shot is.

    I know this video is old and idk how many people still frequent it but... first of all, great tips! These videos are super helpful. I've only been playing for a little under two months now and my form is getting better but I still tend to throw really nose up and high most of the time, despite using the tea kettle method with my wrist to point down and trying to pull across my chest with my shoulders level.
    I'm currently just trying to throw from a standing position to get my form down, so I'm having trouble determining what the issue could be with why I can't just throw level and straight (I also tend to release my throw in every errant direction except the one I want to sometimes, despite making sure not to round my throwing arm when I reach back). Could this be more of a grip and/or release issue? Or just not timing the mechanics right? Any advice would be great.

    The thing I am working on and haven’t found online are: different walk up/run ups and how they correlate with distance, accuracy. At 50 and throwing around 375 with good timing. I am starting sideways and doing a slow walk up that I’m sure i can continue to do for the rest of my disc golf life. But what am I missing out on by not mastering a run up? Sure I’ve tried it many times in practice, but the timing isn’t there. But if I knew it was worth it…….

    Hey Danny, great video. One thing I've felt like I have a hard time with is understanding how to have a straight, tunnel-shot, type of throw with a neutral disc. I feel like my throws are nose-up and slightly hyzering, but I've tried to adjust my reachback and form and I'm really struggling with getting this shot down. I almost feel like it's a combination of OAT, improper plant foot placement, and not releasing the disc properly. I haven't really seen any videos that talk about how the disc should actually release from your hand. Is it supposed to be pulled out of the fingers by sheer force, or should you open your hand at the end of your pull through so that it just slides out without any friction. Whatever the correct method is, I'm not doing it, and it feels like it's causing me to be super inaccurate and lose a lot of force behind the throw. Any suggestions?

    • @davidm6387
      @davidm6387 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've heard many people say that the right way is to grip hard and force the disc to rip out, but I've had to learn that for me that's completely wrong. I have to intentionally relax my grip a little when i want the disc to leave my hand or bad things happen. I don't think you'll have any success opening your hand and letting the disc come out without friction, #1 you probably can't open your hand that fast and #2 you'll lose power and control.

    • @Js-rq9uj
      @Js-rq9uj 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      if you watch slomos of some pros you'll see that the arm doesnt move forward until the hips turn and the hips dont turn forward until their momentum is driven into the plant/brace leg, as odd as it sounds keeping your head down and centered between your feet all the way until your momentum forces you onto your front leg helps to develop that timing, and as an added bonus it keeps your torso in plane with your hips, which should now be turned further back with the core locked to the hips through the head centered between your feet during the x step. whew that last sentence awful but I hope it makes sense.

    Not the clearest Danny video… This puts way too much emphasis on wrist angle and the backswing. Like you mention, the backswing isn’t that important (Chris Clemons, Seppo Paju, etc.). The real problem with nose up is ALMOST ALWAYS related to tipping out of balance backwards and not fully shifting to the front foot before you swing.
