The Toyota Yaris is a global model that is an odd fit in the local Toyota Line up. It's the same category as the Toyota Vios, yet offers less interior space. The 2021 Toyota Yaris is also more expensive than a similar spec Toyota Vios. For hatchback fans, Toyota also has the Toyota Wigo, or the Daihatsu Ayla. It seems that the 2021 Yaris has no space in the local Toyota line up, yet it is still here as an option for people who prefer a sporty-looking subcompact hatch that doesn't look like a taxi. It is also the basis of the popular GR Yaris, although this 2021 Toyota Yaris E has 2 more doors and is less powerful. In this Filipino car review, I explore the Toyota Yaris to see if it still makes any sense. You would hardly see one on the road mainly due to the popularity of the more practical Toyota Vios. It is a bit of a shame since locally, the only hatchback competition it gets is the Honda Jazz, which would soon be replaced by the Honda City Hatchback. It also competes against the Mazda 2 hatchback, which is pricey as well but comes with more kit and features. The Yaris I reviewed here is the base model variant, which is a good platform to build some mods on. You'll have to be content with the low power though, since this is only a 1.3L engine with a CVT. Manual Transmission option is thankfully available.

In other countries, yaris is a mazda 2 rebadge as toyota but here in ph looks like a vios but in hatchback

This Yaris will soon phase out. Toyota will replace it with the Belta model which Toyota acquired from Maruti Suzuki Ciaz. Search Toyota Belta 2022.
Given the pricing and features of the current Yaris, it seems like Toyota placed this on the line up for the sake of formality and just try to level the competition on the segment. But in terms of getting market share, nah... Toyota would rather focus its resources on the Vios.

Outside the Philippines Yaris is what they call the Vios so I don’t really know why TMP differentiated them

Something about Toyota unwilling to add modern safety features to cars, but still wants to charge high prices. Sitting there on there reliability name. But for me I’m willing to try something new.

@@ezer0923 go look at the Geely Coolray. It has all the normal modern safety features, Toyota is selling the same car for 20 years.

I don't get it. This is a basic car. But the price is the same as other cars from other makers with a lot more features. Not even a temp gauge seriously for THAT price? All hard plastics. Smallest lcd screen. zero cameras. zero parking sensor. i don't even know if this thing has usb for charging. Check the features of any sedan in the 900K php range and anyone of them beats the yaris in feature. Someone has to explain to me if the only thing this boasts is it being "quiet".

I am really disappointed about the windows, because it's electronic. When you turn off the engine in a parking area and you need wind, there is no way you could open the window. Wish it was manual tho. But I'm glad my base model Suzuki Dzire has it's own manual windows.
