- After a Summer of playing Burning Blue, the Volko and I connect with Lee Brimmicombe Wood to discuss his background, what lead up to The Burning Blue (published by GMT Games) and a deep dive into The Burning Blue. This is offered in two parts. Enjoy and let us know if you want us to do more!

Excellent interview. I once shared a breakfast table with Lee at one of the first ASL tourneys that was held in Blackpool, many, many years ago. Hated Downtown the first time I played it, now it’s possibly my favourite air wargame. Also purchased and played all his other air war games. Burning Blue is another favourite. Wing Leader not so keen on, the switch from playing in horizontal to vertical plain is something I still have to get used to. Almost sold the game on but a series of VASSAL scenarios with one of the playtesters persuaded me to persevere and I’m glad I did.
Thanks , Harold!
“The Burning Blue” can’t hold a candle to John Butterfield’s “RAF 1940 The Battle Of Britain”. Burning Blue utilizes an archaic gaming systems with consumables which truly is a pain in the ass.
