Have you tried any game from the Air Wars series? A mini-game, published by DG. I have had LOADS of fun playing them. Absolutely the best mini-games DG has published. I'm a big, big fan.
The difficulty of learning game rules, for me, boils down to how interested you are in the subject matter. I got sucked into these simulationist tabletop wargames when I was a kid, so learning new ones is like riding a bike. On the other hand, I was never into 'Euro' games so learning titles focused on those mechanics is like learning a new and unrelated language.
Alexander touched on it but these rules are written in the centre two columns with examples and historical notes on the sides. Therefore you only need learn half of the writing on a page. I've just checked and there's the equivalent of 15 pages of rules for the basic game which is a bargain for something this deep. There's another 7 pages of advanced rules should the player be so inclined.
This is a strategy game. You're not flying a single aircraft like in a simulator. What you have is a furball with multiple squadrons and flights on each side.
I'm confused on the number of players on this game, says 2 players but them also says medium playable for solo player. Can you possibly clear this up for me?
I usually play this solo and it's absolutely fine. There's no hidden information. Of course 2 player is always preferable when possible though. I guess you could even play with more than 2 if every player took one squadron each!
Is two player, but very soloable. Especially if you play the defender and write attacker players plans before

These artifacts make no sense anymore with so many simulators..... strategy games, yes but this..... 😰

No hidden information, so you can easily do missions as best-possible-move etc for both sides. It's a two player game though.
