Instructions unclear: bought z790 dark hero.
Dank.
Mistakes were made!
LOL
What about z790 formula?
Same 😂
1000 percent people need to contact Asus and all other companies when this stuff happens. For the greater good!
Can you boot into Windows using XMP 1 with two G Skill 24 gb 8000 mhz ram sticks? I know that if you use 4 dimms of ram, 8000 mhz xmp is difficult but what if I only use two sticks of 8000 mhz ram on the Dark Hero? I need integrated graphics and quick sync.
oops screwed up pop up, oh well. Also first
Came for the content. Stayed for the kitty.
that shit is $700? LMAO
I got the Asus Z790 Formula for $750 but at least it's white 💀
Same lmao
What ram are you using??
@@sv0g391 Corsair Dominator Titanium 2x24GB (48GB) @7200MT/s
Show us where the motherboard touched you... 8000 has been proven.... by me... i hit 8000... so from my perspective you just... A) don't know what you're doing or B) You intentionally skewed the results
Appreciate that the intent of this video is from a RAM overclocker, noting its issues with meeting marketed RAM Clock speeds, but the inference I took from it was what sold me on the encore. In saying that, I have both the Apex encore and dark hero and I actually find the Dark Hero is better for several reasons, and so will most ethusiasts who don't really stuff around with RAM overclocking bar adjusting it to its respective XMP profile.
For CPU overclocking, the Dark Hero is still up there as one of the best for consideraiton. Other factors that I consider making the Dark Hero better:
- Much easier to build with: More Fan Headers, USB ports, Integrated Graphics out for if you have a non F model CPU, more space to work for cable routing which includes when utilising an AIO.
- Much more conventional NVME drive lay out
- No use of a DDR like module to use additional NVME drives - I (as well as a colleague who bought the same board) had the same issues - it would corrupt drives, be unweildly to work with.
TDLR:
- If you solely want to do ram overclocking, look at the Apex noting the above caveats.
- For everyone else, the dark hero is better.
4 ram slots haha no fuc$en way it’s doing 8,000. Although I bet they managed to somehow get it to work one time for a very short period of time so that they could say it’ll do 8,000. Or maybe not I don’t know if they need to backup claims or they can just say whatever they want. I can get 8000 no problem but on an EVGA Dark Kingpin 790 that’s actually made for that.
It will get 7600mhz with great tunning and if your lucky 7800mhz.
I’m gonna wait on the new Tachyon
On one had Asus is promoting the 8k mhz and on the other had you got Juan Jose Guerrero telling every it depends on CPU and board. This practice has been going on forever by all the MB manufactures, as soon as they set a world record, they want to promote the fastest speeds
keep up with the good content.
Just bought a z790 Hero from Amazon for 310 bucks. I know it can't hit 8000k...but for the price...it can hit 7200mhz....so im good with that, going on a 12900k.
Maximus Hero? I have MH with 13900k and crashes with 76000mhz. 7200 crashes as well. I have cod on 6400mhz stable
@@GONTE_YT No use. 6400mhz is enough for any gaming , if your talking about other stuff then yeah saying it can go 8000mhz when someone wants do hardcore blender or heavy stuff which the app can use the rams speed for its full protentional
Anyone spending that much on a motherboard is kind of dumb to begin with, what a huge waste of money
why do people who have no idea buy motherboards for $700 ???? That is the actual problem
Can’t wait to see the Asrock put to the test lol, Asus I knew that 8000 wasn’t happening lol
update the bios and intel me
I asked him the same question above
I can run 7200 stable on my 12900k and Z690 hero. I got a z790 dark hero to try after my first apex was DOA and it isn't even stable at 7200 with a sp107 14900k at 7200 with a kit that does 8000 on the x670 gene.
Tell me about it, mines barely stable at 7200mhz
What motherboards and brands do you recommend for AMD and Intel? I'm going to go to MSI, but in my case, AMD doesn't go to DDR5 8000 on Zen 4.
The folks who want fast RAM should stick with 2 slot motherboards.
It seems that Asus has gone downhill over the past few years.
Looking forward to the Nova testing. I have one with a 12600k. Team Create A die 7200 32GB kit that was $109 USD on Amazon. So far I'm at 6200 1.25v 38 38 38 78 which is of course fairly loose but I want to see how far it will go at such a low voltage. Totally stable at least! I have yet to punch in the xmp 1.4v 34 42 42 84 settings on this CPU /mobo to see if it posts or is stable.
With 12600k you're at the mercy of the weaker 12th gen memory controller. Why not test what's the highest frequency you can manage first and then tune the timings.
@@Ben-ld1qi^ the method for any kind of oc is to step over the line, then step back bit by bit until stable. it results in less steps overall. loose initial timings are the way
@@maximus3294 That's exactly what I meant by finding max frequency and what was implied! Have had experience with the Apex, Hero and Extreme and other Z790 more budget 4-DIMMers. There are so many factors that come into play, it's a headache... Certain beta BIOSes on the Extreme allowed for 7800 fully stable with others didn't go over 7400 at all. Also need to watch out for high Auto voltages like when he had the screen freeze, that was due to high VCCSA on Auto.
But yeah as a general rule when first testing the waters for highest frequency I always run loose primaries, leaving secondary and tertiary on Auto, but even then it's advised to take note at higher frequencies 8000+ sometime the motherboard sets tRDWR_sg/dg at 20 on Auto when it needs ~22 to pass.
On the non refresh Hero, it needed IVR TX (known as CPU VDDQ on other boards) to be equal or higher as DRAM VDD for things to work, for even 7200 be stable. Every motherboard as its own niche. I don't know about any niches the new Dark Hero might have but I'm sure Jufes is experienced enough to figure things out for himself. But with that said, I wouldn't be surprised if fellow overclockers on overclock(.)net will probably post their stable 7800 overclocks on the Dark Hero soon, albeit it might take a bios mod or future BIOS revisions to do so.
On MSI Z790 Tomahawk, while advertised as 7200, it surprisingly managed 7400 stable across all CPUs that I've tested. A few other Tomahawk owners also reported 7400 on A-Die.
With all that said, I feel like that DDR5 marketing both for the boards and the XMP its sold at are very difficult for the average user that simply wants to buy something, run XMP on it without have to manually tune anything.
So far the Nova is the only 4 dimm board I've used that does 8000 stable, 8200 fully benchable and 8400 makes it into windows and passes less mem intensive tests
@@gtijason7853 very impressive, this on 2x16 or 2x24? if
can’t wait to see Jufes push the newer Asrock Z790 boards🤞🏼
Return that garb. Barely holding 7200 is a joke. The idea of qvl is being stable on plugnplay not what 1% cpu and a solid oc background can do
I feel good about running my z790 tomahawk at “only” 7200 now, nice review
You might be able to do 7400. At least mine doesm
my z690 runs 7000 with minimal tweaks, 200 more mhz for $700 sheesh
What board and what minimal tweaking volts you did?
You save me money man! I return it that day when I comment. I should of waited until you did your review.
I wonder if Gordon from PC World will make a video saying the Z790 Dark Hero is Not A Scam lmaoooo
looking at his hair, I think I'm gonna buy that board.
4 dimm DDR5 boards should be ignored. Either buy a "cheap" DDR4 board, OR spend the money to get a high end 2 dimm boards like the Apex or Tachyon.
jufus posted a new video 🗣️🗣️🗣️🙏🏼
It's interesting at this point that even high end full ATX motherboards offer next to nothing in terms of extendability.
I love the fact that my old rig has lots of spare pci-e ports.
But that's not available with current products without going HEDT.
What the hell, Intel/AMD?
What's the point of building a PC without extendability?
Might as well just get a modular laptop instead for my next rig.
I can’t hear a thing he’s saying. I’m just analyzing the cat images on his shirt.
J/k. Thank you for pointing these things out to us. I appreciate all the videos!
To be fair to your video which I found randomly, I too couldn't get my RAM (DDR5 Corsair Titanium 6800) to load either XMP so configured it manually - but that seems to be a known issue on the 4-DIMM configuration with the Intel memory controller as some of the blame I'd imagine. Also needing 192 GB for rendering use so I know I wasn't going to be winning any speed records. Very stable board at 5600 though.
my mai z790 tomahawk still raises the frequency to 7600 and 7400 stably, it is rightly said that it is a scam
Can someone tell me which RAM i need for my setup? I got the Z790 Dark hero, i9 14900k and Asus strix 4090 oc.
Get the 7200 kit off my website
@@FrameChasers First of all tnx for responding! You mean the T-Force ones right? Does it matter if i take 4x16gb instead of 2x32gb?
Thank good we have this guy. Jufes i have the same problem with my Z790-E u know , it can’t go above 7200. With or withouth XMP. So know i will take your word and RMA it! I will wait until you drop a video about Z790-Nova and swap it with it or another motherboard you recommend . I have 7800 g skill sticks with 13900k.

@@FrameChasers What a boss!
The NOVA that I got would never get to 8000 XMP stable at all. Had to reduce it to 7800 to get it stable. Curious what your experience would be like.

I bought a Nova and a 14900k. But I never had any intention of running 8000mhz ram. I just wanted a good MB for the money with decent features. It runs my current Corsair Dominator Platinum just fine. I hope, when you do test it, it WILL run 8k memory. Give me something to strive for! Your content is awesome!

Hi,
Love your videos - straight and to the point.
I'm on the verge of buying an apex encore... I'm really keen on knowing what do you think of it, and is it a wise choice.
I'm coming from a very very bad experience with the gigabyte aorus master z790.
Thank you for reply.
Get a dark hero and make your life easier
Intel 13 and 14th gen chips only support 5400. Asus clearly says to review the docs on their published material. You're blaming a board when the end user clearly hasn't performed due diligence. This is tech so stop with the histrionics.
I was sent here by someone in my Telegram chat. I feel your pain so much. I'm sick of these manufacturers screwing around like this.
Duh it's got the 4 DIMM slots. I was shocked when this board came out more expensive than the Apex Encore. SO I got the Encore and run 8000 no problem
How much MHz is Z790 Max RAM?
7200 MHz
Four DDR5 Dual-Channel RAM slots allow you to install up to 128GB of memory with speeds up to 7200 MHz when overclocked, providing you with increased multitasking and rendering capabilities
listen guys before you buy these new asus boards and Nvidia GPU cards and the newest 8000 XMP memory please keep in mind your not going to get all these speeds that asus is advertising so ask your self man is all the money your gonna spend worth being so disapointed ? if you spend good money then you guys should get a solid product NOT FALSE PROMISES. so before you guys go out and spend all your hard earned cash just ask your self is it really worth it for something that wont work as promised? i just hate seeing you guys get scewed! so consider all that money spent along with all those problems that come with asus products lately.
It’s happening with 12-13-14 on every brand. So your claim about the memories speeds not being that fast or them lying about it it’s happening with everything.
I agree already.
I like your t-shirt motive and the painting :)
Great video thanks!
Avoid ASUS like the plague... 5hours total on call with ASUS customer support about TWO SEPERATE brand new $400 z790 boards they themselves told me to RMA. Not detecting 14gen CPU after BIOS update. Worked through every possible componenet twice. Gigabyte board was plug and play. Never again
The very word 'ASUS' has become a curse word for me since their recent market practices, will definitely not buy anything from them ever again. I even feel bad for owning an ASUS laptop, i've had luck with it the G712L i7/2070s model though, it's been powered on literally 24/7 for almost 4 years, giving it really hard time running serves from it even poured beer on it and first time opened it 1 week ago for dust off because it was so stuffed with tobacco tar and dust the fans stopped spinning, compressed air didn't remove any of the dust i needed to use toothbrush to clean it. I know people with ASUS laptops who needed to send it many times to warranty because of issues i really don't get it how mine keeps working even when i literally keep raping the damn thing.
Did you even check the QVL?
I did and purchased the G.Skill kit from that QVL but it doesn't work! Working with Asus now and they agree it will not work but have not addressed why the G.Skill 8000 kits are on the QVL.
700$ motherboard review, all you have bad about it is 1000 mhz lower DDR5 ram acceptance? all you argue for 16 minutes is just checking memory aspect of a motherboard that has 100 other features to be checked and evaluated?
You think thats bad, i got a 14900k and had to downclock it to 5000 on P-Cores just to keep it stable! Ram wont go any higher than 4000.
I bought one as i missed out on the Asus Maximus z670e boards they released like 10 then discontinued it. I don't need 8000 mhz Ram iv got a nice kit of 7000mhz 64GB kit.
That's crazy since I bought a Z790-E on 13th gen release (I'm dumb and should have waited for reviews and 2 DIMM mobos) and I'm running 7467 cl34.
Please do a review on the AORUS Z790 Master. I just got this board and have had nothing but issues with it and it's a nut hair shy of a 600-dollar board. I can't even get 7200mhz running stably on this board. Just found your channel and your channel is full of great information.
Who wants to run their memory at 8000, it does not make hardly any difference. What a pointless video, you sound like a whiner ... now I am no Asus fan, but his is just childish LOL
So even Asus realized intel's refreshed chips are joke 😁
And in reality if you achieve those speeds you'll get what ? an extra 3 or 4 fps in csgo , you're loud, and obnoxious and need a serious reality check, most if not all manufacturers make claims that are rather fanciful as far as most of us are concerned , the likelihood is they could probably prove it in lab conditions, most won't be able to , most of us that have more than 2 brain cells know this.
I'm happy at 7999mhz. Not going to notice a difference at 8000mhz.
1 HAD PROBLEMS WITH DDR 5 RAM WITH 4 32GB SO NOW I DO 2 GSKILL 32GB WITH MY ACE MOTHERBOARD AT 6600 NO MORE ASUS MOTHERBOARDS FOR ME
thats why i love my z790 white apex motherboard , my gskill ddr5 2x24GB 8000 Mhz running at 8200 Mhz rock solid at stock voltages (1.35v) 🤟😁🤟
it just boots at 8200 so its stable or you've run some stress test like Karhu for 24h and you have no errors?
I'm glad I waited for this review, was planning on getting this motherboard.
Same here because it's on Amazon for like 350
@@elvertmack5039 thats the 690 hero, the one that had all the issues and if you buy one of them now, it may or may not have any of them - hard pass

with this ram dosent work and as i tested itt depend on bios settings etc i set 7800 gskill it dosent work so good this mobo is strange
OMG that ending with the Nova... LMFAO 🤣 These brands need to get their shit together if they want to charge this much!
Thank you jufes and the supporters.
Curious to see what the Nova can do. That board is being pushed hard everywhere. Just need another budget option, the Z790i Edge is great for 7600-7800 no stress memory OCs. But they look hilarious in bigger cases.
MSI should have released Z790 Unify-X. I was really hoping they would.

Just started a spat with you and actually hardcore overclocking.
You did not get this video fast enough, lol. I am stuck with a Dark Hero and 8000MHz RAM. Fully in a custom loop, so a bit of a pain to rebuild. And my racing season starts in a week, so really I don't have time. Support ticket into ASUS. I can get 7400MHz working in MemTest86 Pro. But that locks up in Windows, so not sure how far I have to drop it.
I’m in the same boat as you. I can almost get 7400 stable but I have to use the perfect voltages. I gave up and just used my 96gb 6400 kit. Even 7200 throws errors at the default voltages for me in memtest 86 😂.
@@fhpchris I gave up on the Dark Hero. Asus Support just said to RMA the RAM. You just got a new subscriber for being no b.s. let's goooo
This sounds similar to vehicle window stickers. The sticker tells you what MPG you can expect, city and road driving. Then, it tells you that your MPG may vary. ASUS tells you the highest memory speed this MB supports. They should, like the MPG car sticker, tell you that your memory speed may vary. If you believe that ASUS has tested every memory module on their GVL on this MB, I have some lovely oceanfront property in Kansas I'd like to sell you.
Absolute banger, well done Jufes
I am having an issue that the Microphone has a loud pop both using the front panel and the rear mic-in input on ASUS Z790 Dark Hero. Is anyone else having the same issue with this board?
I solved my issue. It seems to be a lose wire in the front panel HD Audio connector that was causing issues for me.
Mine works perfectly fine and I love it
what about MSI MEG Z790 ACE MAX

its ok. i am on 6800cl32.
It is outrageous and rather deceitful. The other major concern is the PCI slots. 16X What and What, Less and Less? These motherboards are Expensive. Come on Asus, you do make good motherboards. Don't spoil it with these folly tricks! It is so right of you to call them out. Thanks for your informative and detailed review, Man.
Thank you!!! I am new to the channel, and this would be my 2nd build ever i am fishing around to find a new mobo, i really wanted to get this board but as you have shown here that this board ain't it . What is a good board for doing animation/simulations inside Blender since i this board isn't any good?
I actually regret buying the Apex Encore. I am gonna sell it and buy either the Dark Hero or Tachyon X. Integrated Graphics, Intel Quick Sync, and Thunderbolt 4. Too many features are nixed on the Encore for overclocking.
They're gonna need to release a half decent bios revision for that board that will properly set the default voltages. Probably too low imc voltage and too high system agent at default to stabilize anything over 7400. 7800 is the best I've ever done on the OG hero with a specific beta bios and about 2 weeks of fafoing and misery.
Thanks for sharing. Yeah I had the OG Hero and it has its own niche with voltages and requires certain BIOSes otherwise over 7200 doesn't always work.
What about a binned MC that does 8800. Would that make up some difference?
@@stevog893 in order to push speeds like that you're talking about winning the lotto on binned CPU/Ram kit/motherboard. All 3 have to be golden samples to achieve that and your still looking at pushing an ungodly amount of voltage. I also have no idea how good the scaling is on ddr5 beyond 8200. At some point there is always diminishing returns.
Edit: You also have to be running a 1 dimm per channel board.
@@Ben-ld1qi which bios do you use for the Hero ? here i can't do barely better than 6933 with 7600 DDR5
@@barome7236 I already sold it many months ago so I don't remember. The first Hero didn't even do 7200 y-cruncher VST stable. I then had the board replaced through warranty for another Hero. I also read Igor's Lab Z790 Hero review (google it) wherw he succeeds 7800 stable, and he mentions it's important to have IVR TX at least the same or higher as the DRAM VDD. This allowed me to achieve 7200 but I didn't manage higher. From what it seems the Hero version is very dependent on specific BIOS versions and doesn't easily do 7600+ on just about any revision.
Tech cartel strikes again lol
Dude. I had a SHIT experience recently with their ProArt Z70 mobo. Two boards that would not post. RMA'd it twice. And TWICE they said they found no issues. Which was horse shit.
