Elvis looks more clean cut. He just got out of the Army. And they tried to make him more boy next door.

This was a “Welcome back Elvis” show hosted by Frank Sinatra…..Elvis served in the Army from 1958-1960

Yes, he was drafted and served in the Army from 1958 to 1960. Was stationed in Germany! 😊

Just to show you the kind of person Elvis was, his personality and genuine humility and kindness….. when he first hit it big and Rock n Roll took off in the mid 1950s, Frank was not a fan. He thought Elvis was silly and rock was going to be a fast dying fad.
After this show, Frank and Elvis did become friends. Frank gave Elvis his private jet for his honeymoon when he married Priscilla in 1967. And when Elvis died, Frank had very kind words -
On hearing of Presley’s death, in 1977, Sinatra was genuinely saddened and effusive in his praise of the man they called The King. “There have been many accolades uttered about Elvis’ talent and performances through the years, all of which I agree with wholeheartedly,” he said. “I shall miss him dearly as a friend. He was a warm, considerate, and generous man.”

Wasn't that fun? Somewhere there's a version that has an extra bit at the end, because after that moment, they actually reprise that final duet part of the song and it's exceptionally beautiful and there's another bit of exchange of verbal stuff between them that is endearing.
At any rate, this truly was a historic moment, because you had the heartthrob of the older generation on stage with the heartthrob of the younger generation.

1960-64 in my opinion was his best vocal years….his album Elvis is Back is my favorite and is kind of unsung

So old 1960 the year of my birth. The dance of the screamers. Remarkable how they all scream in tune. Sinatra was well known for camaraderie, mostly with a Bourbon on ice.

This is very interesting to me, because when Elvis first broke big, Sinatra spoke against him a bit, calling his songs the “music of sideburned delinquents”. You heard him crack that joke at the beginning. And yet years later, here he was featuring Elvis as a guest, and even duetting with him. I guess ol’ Frank had to eat his words just a bit.

Mathew sounds if that’s so, it’s sounds like a case of what I’d call first they hate on you then they appreciate “ I remember when I first started youtube this girl I used to know said I wasn’t a real videographer because I was doing mobile videography, guess who is doing the same now 😂😅

You wanna see Elvis at his Finest? Try any song from the ‘68 Comeback Special. A favorite is Tryin To Get To You. He was most gorgeous and sexy on this show.

Sinatra (and other singers from his generation) hated Elvis and rock 'n; roll in the early days. But by the time Elvis came out of the army and started singing smoother songs (with no loss of popularity) Frank had no choice but to give in and he welcomed the newer, slicker Elvis to his show (which drew enormous ratings, of course).

Elvis' mother died when Elvis was in the army (Germany) and he did not become himself after that loss.

What has always been revealing about this is that Elvis could sing anything Frank did - but the reverse is not necessarily true. And I think that has sunk in over the years.
