I just bought your product and absolutely excited to receive it soon but silly question. If I bought a rare magazine and it came already shrink wrapped should I take it out first and put it into the bag I purchased from you or leave the shrink wrapped on? I've started collecting a certain magazine so I'm new to this. Thanks in advance and looking forward to your answer.
Hi! Thanks for the question. Shrink wrap or stretch wrap are usually not made from archival plastic. If you plan on storing anything long-term we would not recommend using anything other than a product that you are positive is made for that purpose. The off-gassing from certain plastics can actually degrade the item over time.
i picked up a few of my collector magazines today and i noticed the bottom of the sleeves had rotted out and had these flakes of plastic all over me. the boards and magazines are fine. what could have caused that? the magazines were in my living room.
That is quite an unusual size, but this sleeve should fit the long dimension. The short dimension is considerably bigger and would nee to be folded and likely taped to stop any shifting of the magazine. www.bagsunlimited.com/product/5220/mini-poster-sleeve-11-14-x-16-14br-2-mil-polyethylene-1-12-flap
Quick question about using microchamber paper... and this may sound a bid dumb, but I'm rather new to this... do we place a piece of paper in between every single page of a magazine to properly protect it? Or just every few pages or so?
If you add the thickness of each side to the width of the magazine cover, the resulting number should be the width of sleeve you would need to store your thick magazines.
one last question what kind of light should i be using in the room im collecting in right now im using led bulbs 100 watts and i have a lamp that is led also at 40 watts ? or does it matter is led light safer for collecting magazines, and what kind of night should i be using
Unfortunately we are not lighting experts. Perhaps a site like the library of congress could offer more advice on how lighting affects things you would like to protect.
i have a few mags with a musty smell to it not that strong of a smell .........will these bags prevent the musty smell from traveling to other mags they are from 1975
Moldy and musty smells are similar in nature and both are caused by the presence of mold or mildew. Mold and mildew are both fungi and grow in the presence of moisture, or water. ... The primary difference between moldy and musty odors is in the strength of the smell, musty odors are usually not as strong as moldy odors So the most important thing is not to let moisture reactivate the mold or mildew spores. It probably is best to keep them separate from other books/papers until the smell is gone. Use our book deodorize. www.bagsunlimited.com/product/6669/book-deodorizer-one-lb-bagbr-absorbs-odors-moisture-and-more-reusable
Micro-chamber paper should also be quite helpful in reducing the musty smell and transfer. www.bagsunlimited.com/product/6195/archival-microchamber-paper-8-x-10brremove-neutralize-acids-and-odors-in-paper
yeah i keep them in a dry heated place with baking soda in a sealed bag that you sell i hope that gets rid of the problem or should i through them i the trash
it worked awesome the musty smell is gone it smells like a magazine again what i did was leave a teaspoon of baking soda in one of your bags with the mag already in the bag and sealed it up and left it for 4 days and that was it

@@BagsUnlimitedRochester thank you so much for the reply and link. I am actually looking for sleeves that work with graded CGC magazines such as Mad Magazine. The link you sent was for comic books. Do you have CGC MAGAZINE resealable sleeves?
when collecting old magazines can you leave a disk in the pages or will that leave an imprint on the page ? like a cd or dvd with a paper cover ? while inside the magazine i have some magazines that came with cds and would like to keep them together but not to leave an imprint of the disk on the magazine any help would be appreciated
Overtime, it's quite probably that the disk would leave an impression on the page, especially if there is pressure on the front or back of the magazine. It would probably be best, if the disk is already open, to remove it and store it by itself.
@@BagsUnlimitedRochesterthere is some room and thank you thank,, you ,your a world of info now i have to stand them up again after lying them all on their backs a few days ago
@@jaydoubleu3419 , yes, you definitely do not want to lay them flat if there is anything in between the pages that could leave an imprint. Thanks for checking with us. If you have anymore questions, just let us know!
You don't need the backings if you're going to be storing your magazines in a way that keeps them from twisting or bending. The backing is used for long term structural support, and to keep the shape of the magazine over time. If, for instance, you store the magazines flat, you probably wouldn't need a backing because gravity wouldn't necessarily be working against them. But, even in this situation, a backing might be ideal to prevent impressions from the magazine on top of it, if they were not to line up perfectly, one on top of the other. A backing is usually worth using just as a preventative measure. If you have anymore questions, please let us know. Thanks!
can you use a 39% cotton 69% polyester glove on my collection of old magazines when reading or do they have to be 100% cotton ?

Do you recommend placing acid free paper inside of old magazines while storing them to protect the most desired articles in the magazine?
We sell microchamber paper for just that purpose. The acid free paper shouldn’t harm the magazine but it won’t trap pollutants.

Depending on the thickness, one or two sheets should do it. Acids migrate, so ultimately they will get trapped in the chambers of the paper.
Will these sleeves be okay with very thick magazines I have one that's 2 and half inches thick and I'm not quite sure how to store it
If you add the thickness of each side to the width of the magazine cover, the resulting number should be the width of sleeve you would need to store your thick magazines.

Regarding kaf40 backings, I see they have a rough side and a smoother one. Which side is in contact with the magazine? Does it make any difference?
the kaf40 backings are the same on both sides thanks
