Thank you. You are very kind. We just finished framing a Bruce Springsteen magazine cover the same way. Here is a link to see the results: framers.com/blog/custom-framing-the-iconic-bruce-springsteen-rolling-stone-magazine-cover/
Thanks for putting this out. It seems like you invented this mounting method, you could have sold it, instead you made a tutorial. It looks so awesome.
This is such a cool idea! Would you recommend this for a large art book? The book is roughly 12x17x1, and was signed by Jim Lee. My husband has had it in a box for about 5 years and I'd love to frame it for his birthday. The book weighs about 5 lbs so I don't know if it needs extra support, as I don't want the binding to break and pages to sag.
That sounds interesting. No I have not. I will give it a try. We have a machine that perfectly places the slits on mat boards. That's what you see in this video. I will need to either use a CNC or a table saw to make similar slits on acrylic. That might be a bit more pricy than a mat board, but I like that suggestion. Thank you
@@amypolzella8349 I haven’t done it with acrylic yet. Though the idea sounds very cool. Here’s a video of my computerized mat cutter though: instagram.com/p/CX44PgEIist/?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y= It’s the third slide there.

What a great idea! I have been trying to figure out a way to frame magazines and haven't been satisfied with the other methods. Thanks! One simple question: to cut the slots are you using a matt board cutter or exacto knife and straight edge?

It's Clear Archival Polyester. Here is what their web site says: This clear archival polyester (Melinex or equivalent) film has many uses in the museum or library. Since this is an inert material, it may be safely used for encapsulating letters, documents, maps and prints.
Monique Jeffery sorry about that. I had a mic setup but it failed to pick up my voice well. I recorded this with another phone too but can’t find that file. I will update it if find it. If there are areas you’d like me to clarify, let me know and I’ll be happy to explain it more.
This is awesome. Its so simple yet very clever. I was trying to figure out how to frame a magazine without damaging it and this is perfect

Hello! Can you please recommend a place for the 8 ply mat board. I can not find them only 8 ply foam board. Thank you.
We do sell them. You can contact us from our website at framers.com
Brilliant! Thank you for this!
Thank you and you're welcome.
I want to thank the folks who are sending me their magazines to frame this way. I appreciate the support.

I haven’t tried this method on such a large piece. I think it’ll work with a stiff enough insert and backing. I’d do a test first though.
Very cool
Thank you @abstractheory1
Great solution, great job. Ever considered trying something transparent instead of cardboard? Plexiglass, perspex, lexan, acrylic or similar?

Does the polyester simply fold by hand or does it need to be heated to create a good seam for the fold over flaps?
It’s more like a crease than a fold. I use a burnishing bone. No heat is needed.

Thank you. We have a super cool computerized mat cutter so I use that. it's an Italian made beast and makes cutting mats very easy.
Where can I get the clear sheets?
Depending on where you live, look for Mylar from an art conservation supply company. I get mine in very large rolls from a local shop.
How do you mount a signed centerfold magazine?
I do a similar setup but with a modification. I will make a video when we get a project that in the store.
What is the thickness of the Mylar that you use? I have a project like this to do and I am not sure what kind of film to use.
I use 0.003 gauge clear.
@@customframingnyc Is there a source you can recommend?
@@marciaadams-landry6490 Try Talas.com out of Brooklyn. They are a good place for all conservation products.
Where do you get the frames, matte board with slits, and the plastic for the magazines?
World Wide Unlimited we sell them in my store in New York City. See my website: framers.com

Look in the comments, I state what it is and how people can get it.
Hi, do you happen to have office in London please? Thanks
No, sorry. We’re located in New York City.
Does it have to be an 8 ply mat for sturdiness or would a 4 ply mat work?
It depends on heavy the book is. I use 8 ply for most though.
Thanks!
@@MathLvr you’re welcome.
What plastic or film did you use to cover the magazine?
Mylar. I linked to it in one of the comments below.
How'd you put the camo or other pattern on the sides?
We use glue and double stick tape.
Can customers purchase the items to do this on our own?
Unfortunately, we only make custom frames and don't sell supplies such as the material needed here.
How much do you charge to do this for a single magazine?
Send me an email with your size and I will be happy to give you quote. framers.com/contact/

What's the website address?
MrIncredibleone89 UniversityProducts.com
Here is the exact product with the exact description he used above... www.amazon.com/dp/B07YQCJHDL/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_fabc_LQb5Fb2RS734X
Where can I purchase this?
We make these for you in our shop. Customers mail their magazines to me shop and I frame and mail it back to them.
What are the size dimensions of the frames?
I don't remember exactly but I am assuming about 18x14" or so. We custom make frames to exact sizes.
By the way, Dura-Lar is the plastic material, or at least close to the one he uses, in the video
Unfortunately I don’t know the product you mentioned. Is it archival?
Big Apple Art Gallery & Custom Framing as far as I know it is, I work in the framing department and it’s something that we use
CodyForneyman do you work at a big box store? Those stores don’t exactly do things the proper way.
What thickness is the Dura-Lar? .003 or .005?
Man I wish the audio wasn’t so messed up on this.
Me too. I’m sorry. I thought I was being clever by adding an external mic but it got messed up somehow and produced even worst sound.
does that type of frame have a name ?
No, not exactly.
