    Great quality videos. Your temperatures are spot on, there is no need to go above 125 and it can be detrimental if you do.
    Can I offer a tip on how you go about selecting candidates for genetic sampling?
    First, size has no statistically quantifiable affect on Pb or Pn content, bigger does not automatically mean more potent. It can, but because you are dealing with probably one of the most amazing things in nature, it is not possible to know. It is common to have an absolutely giant specimen and have little potency to show for it. Unless you are running an HPLC test on every single mushroom to determine content %, there is simply no way to being sure.
    Secondly, waiting until the Veil is about to break is not the ideal moment to harvest a Psi containing mushroom. Just prior to a mushroom developing and breaking its veil, it has ceased producing Psi, and instead focused on producing spores, dedicating all of its energy towards reproduction and not protection (Psi is a defensive chemical).
    The ideal moment is largely intuitive, it is at some stage in the fruiting body process when it is still an Adolescent growing towards an Adult fruiting body, but well prior to Mature, which is when it enters its sporulation phase. If a veil begins to develop and you can see it separating, you waited too long. It takes time to develop this intuition. The "feels like a marshmallow" test is only valid for certain strains of Cubes.
    My suggestion, if you're going to pursue mycology this way, is to create a system that you can repeat on every batch and flush. How much you are willing to commit to it in terms of finances and space is largely going to dictate everything.
    Every batch, tub and flush is given a number, correlating to an entry in a notebook that contains all the relevant information from inoculation to fruiting, dates, substrate, supplements, etc.
    I nominate 4 mushrooms per flush for sampling. The candidates are 1st to Fruiting Body (1FB), Largest in Flush (LIF), Visually Ideal (VIP, because why not) and 1st to Sporulation (1S). 1FB and 1S are typically your strongest genetics, since the goal for every mycellium network is to reproduce as quickly and energy efficiently as possible. 1S requires you to 'sacrifice' the candidate, since you won't be able to harvest it at its ideal moment.
    I do this for each Flush.
    Depending on how many tubs you are running concurrently, it can become cost prohibitive to have this many agar plates. I can easily go thru 12 to 18 plates per tub, sometimes more. After a few weeks in an Agar plate I discard the weakest developers and instead turn my attention to the plates that developed the best.
    The reasoning behind this is that the most valuable thing you can gain from sampled genetics is Time.
    Considering that it can take anywhere from 2 to 6 months, depending on strain or species, to successfully fruit a tub, the strains that colonize and successfully develop to fruiting bodies in the shortest amount of time are the most valuable.

      Thanks for the in depth response and knowledge! It is much appreciated, and I'm going to pin your comment because I believe it is valuable information and I know that I can be a little vague in the commentary so hopefully this helps other viewers as well. I like your method of taking 4 mushrooms per flush to capture all the different sought after genetics, looks like I will need to get some more agar cups or start making my own :)

      Pretty much the only downside is that it'll be open to the environment and takes a little longer, you'll wanna make sure it's in a nice clean place free of any bugs or pathogens that may want to nibble away at them.

    In the future, it probably isn't a great idea to pick an already sporulated mushroom for cloning. If you're gonna clone a specimen, pluck it in advance of the veil breaking.
    Once the spores enter the equation it's a crap shoot whether the culture that takes off is actually from the cloned tissue or not.

      Thanks for watching! Most mushrooms will sporulate after they have fully grown. This is because the mushrooms know they are at the end of their life cycle. They drop their spores to continue spread genetics for future mushrooms to grow. These spores however are usually pretty bad for people with sensitive lungs. All though it is perfectly fine to eat them they can change the way the mushroom you are eating tastes. Because of this it is usually best to harvest the mushrooms before they sporulate. Hope this helps! If you have further questions feel free to message me on insta and I will try to get back to all messages as soon as possible!

    Im on my first grow with the max yield bin. My substrate was fulky colonized and pins showing 6 days after .ixing it with my grain spore and using the colonizer lid. I also had the black tape over the small holes on the bottom bin. After those 6 days and fully colonized i added a thin layer of coco coir that i misted until its fully saturated and switched to the fruiting lid with the white filters. It has plenty of humidity in there and on the lid. Should i pull the black tape off the holes now or wait until it colonizes the coco coir and pins come up?

    • @GoombaGrows
      @GoombaGrows  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Good question and honestly I’m not 100% sure and I don’t want to give you any wrong info, but I do suggest that if your introducing fruiting conditions to go ahead and put micropore tape over the bottom holes instead of the black tape.

  • @mushroomboss7094
    @mushroomboss7094 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

    Just pick up your fruiting container at spawn and tap it down against the surface for side pins, if you really want to make sure you don't get them then pack down the sides lightly this will ensure the substrate colonized flush against the liner and your whole substrate will be stuck to the liner. You literally have to pull it off if you want it off.

    • @GoombaGrows
      @GoombaGrows  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks for your comment! I actually did pat down all of the sides when spawning to bulk but the cake only stuck to one side and all of the other ones pulled in as it shrank. I think it sticks better using a garbage bag like liner. The max yield bin liners didn’t seem to work too well.

    • @JayP7.62
      @JayP7.62 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yup that’s what I do. Liner sticks nice and tight to the substrate as it shrinks. Every now and then I might have like a small inch or two section that may come lose during a harvest. But that’s way better than no liner and having a crap ton of side pins. Idk why people paint or put tape around the bottom of their tub. Light isn’t the only thing that triggers pinning. You still have that perfect micro climate once the substrate shrinks.

    • @GoombaGrows
      @GoombaGrows  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      For the most part it needs to be cracker dry. You shouldn’t be able to bend the mushroom at all. If you try to bend it, it needs to snap in half. That’s the best way that I tell if they are dry enough. I don’t necessarily think you can over dry them unless you leave them in for a very long time. I have actually started to dehydrate on 110 for about 12 hours. It has been working well even for the bigger mushrooms. When I was only dehydrating for 8 or so hours some of the big ones would have to be redone to be fully dehydrated.

      You should never grow Psilo containing mushrooms outdoors, or anywhere animals, children or unassuming adults can come into contact with it. Using tubs is the only way to prevent spores from escaping into the "wild" and causing an accidental contact. Growing outdoors or in greenhouses opens you up to the most evil thing in Mycology: Contamination. Finding these mushrooms in the wild, even on a pasture, is a statistical anomaly bordering on minor miracle because of how prevalent Mold/Bacteria/Yeast spores are in the air, all air.
      The intent is to be applauded but the risks and difficulties involved are not worth it.

Because of this many growers will harvest right as the first veil begins to drop / cap starts to open up. I believe low heat will be just fine for as long as you want. But there is a good in between for the two. From the research I’ve done it seems that the lower temp for longer will keep there shape better. I have started doing about 110 for around 12 hours. Sometimes longer depending on size of the fruit. I think you want to try and stay below 120f no matter what though. As I think above 125f is where potency starts to degrade. I’ve also heard that oxidation can cause potency loss so you want to avoid just leaving them out for multiple days which is why the air dry / fan method is not the best.

    Does the dehydration temperature matter all that much? • @GoombaGrows
      @GoombaGrows  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      Temperature doesn’t matter THAT much. But it does play a role. I personally wouldn’t go above 150 Fahrenheit. But you technically don’t even need temperature at all. I just recommend to use around 100-120 Fahrenheit for around 8-10 hours in the dehydrator and try to get them dehydrating as soon as possible after harvest!

      I'll say this, don't ever wet them before you dry them. Don't wash them off after picking before drying them. Because when you dry them it'll bake them all, they will turn black and super hard. Don't wash them lol ruined a whole lot one time like this lol of course lions mane.....

    • @GoombaGrows
      @GoombaGrows  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I would recommend picking almost all of them at the same time! Sometimes it’s hard when one is done way before the others but if you wait for the rest of the veils to break that one mushroom may drop spores which can hurt your yield and potentially increase chance of contamination. I’ve read a lot about when the right time to harvest is and it’s actually sometime mid growth usually right before the veil breaks but that can be very hard to determine so that one that’s done is probably a good sign that the rest are about ready as well. And the small ones that have just recently pinned you want to pick most of those as well because a lot of them will turn to aborts after that first harvest. Usually you can be fine by letting them stay on and the mycelium will take it back over but you do raise chance of contamination that way so getting all of them off so you are able to dunk your cake is your best bet! Hope this helped :)

    You should of let the 'donger' open its veil, that would of veen the one to get a print as well as take tissue and put it on agar to grow liquid culture...
    You're also not getting them completely dry... theyre 90% water by weight, so that was a little high, if they dont snap when trying to bend them or turn to powder while grinding them, they arent cracker dry.. any water (oxygen) thats going to speed along degradation aswell as potential mold, so getting them purged of all water is one of the biggest factors in shelf life.
    If you get them cracker dry, vacuum seal them in individual bags (i do 8ths per bag so when I want some, I'm not dusturbing more than what is needed and exposing them to fresh oxygen, heat, light..if i need more than that, i grab 2 bags or whatever is needed), add them all to a large Mason jar with oxygen and water absorbers, then throw the whole thing in the freezer. They'll last longer than 2 years with no signs of degradation that way, unless they still have water inside them, but if you throw water absorbers into each individual bag, that can help them dry further.. i do that even when I know they're dry, yeah it's a hassle, but i didn't put all that time into it just to have them degrade on me..
    If you don't take some of these precautions and just have them in a baggy or in a mason jar, they degrade rather fast, psilocybin is relatively unstable in normal atmospheric conditions, especially when it comes too heat, oxygen, and light... on the flip side, no oxygen, the colder you can store it, and even a dark tented jar it will increase their shelf life, by a lot.
    I've had some where I noticed some degradation in a few weeks, others that have lasted months with no signs of degradation.. I don't know if different species and variants/sub variants have different enzymes or something that protects the psilocybin and psilocin, but both grows were dried, stored in the same jar, no light, same temperature, etc, so there shouldn't of been any difference and if there was it would of been negligible.

      @GoombaGrows  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I added a subtitle in the video when editing about getting them dry to the point where they crack but when I rendered the video the subtitle disappeared. But I am definitely getting them dry enough. If 9 hours at 110 isn’t enough for some of the bigger mushrooms and they still bend I put them in for longer. But 90% of the mushrooms are completely dry in 9 hours.

    • @GoombaGrows
      @GoombaGrows  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Good tips on storing them as well. When mine are dry I throw them in a big mason jar with a silica gel packet, seal it and leave it in my closet. I haven’t noticed any degradation keeping them at room temperature but it would be a good video idea to try and test if there is a difference storing them in a cooler environment after they have been dried.

    7:25 Interesting. I was wondering, "Why is he picking up those tiny mushrooms? They haven't even grown yet?"

      Right! It had me confused as well why they wouldn’t continue growing.

    Are shrooms ready before viel drops?

    • @GoombaGrows
      @GoombaGrows  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes, technically the best time to harvest your mushrooms is a day or so before the veil drops. It’s just hard to tell sometimes when that is so the veil dropping is usually the best sign to know it’s time to harvest.

    May I ask how to dehydrate if you can’t use an oven, air fryer etc? Hope you’ll read the comment

    • @GoombaGrows
      @GoombaGrows  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Yes! You can simply leave them out for a few days in the sun or in front of a window that gets a lot of sunlight. You can also put a fan in front of them to speed up the process :)

      Yeah the gloves became annoying halfway through and honestly I found it unnecessary. It’s good for the aesthetic of the video but when harvesting it’s hardly necessary.

      TH-cam can sometimes be not so fond of disclosing the species of mushroom you are growing. I recommend heading over to my instagram where I am more open about the current species I’m growing on the channel :)!

    I dehydrate my first flush in an air fryer at 165f for 6hrs and most of them are black like they are burnt. Someone let me know if this is common or did I set the temp too high.

    • @GoombaGrows
      @GoombaGrows  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Temp 100% too high. I wouldn’t go over 130, you may find different opinions on this and it depends on your dehydrator/air fryer. I usually stick with 110-120f for 10-12 hours.
