Very interesting process! Thanks. ... I have a mid-1960s longboard that is yellow from sun and (I'm told) pool chlorine. No delams. Seems totally watertight. So the glass would probably never peel off, right?
You can definitely get the glass off! Theres a few tricks to make it come off easier but if its not delamed, I would leave it alone. Theres a lot of value in an all original board
That’s actually come out pretty well - it’s very hard to rip old glass off without damaging some of the foam. I’m currently reshaping an old shortboard into a grom board for my son which is more forgiving cos I’m reducing the overall size so you can quickly get back to the bright white foam underneath. Honestly looked like a new blank once it was shaped! I guess keeping the original shape is gonna be more of a challenge but you seem to be doing well so far so keep at it! Check out ‘rogue wave surfboard repair’ if you haven’t already - he does a lot of restoration/reshapes. And then for shaping/glassing check out Bendheim Boards, Shrednaught and Pieter Shapes. I’m on my 3rd board and I’m pleased with all 3 so far and I learnt everything from these TH-cam channels - hours and hours of brilliant info. Also I don’t know if you plan on sanding/glassing somewhere else man but you are gonna get resin and dust absolutely everywhere if it’s your first attempt ! Especially the dust it’s so fine it will get over all sides of every single object in the room so I probably wouldn’t do it in that nice garage you have! Looking forward to seeing how it progresses :)
It could have definitely gone better on the deck but everything else went well! uploading part 2 now. Keeping the shape original was a big challenge but the whole board got smaller by about 1/4 inch so now terrible. It was a fun learning process. And I've watched all those guys religiously, took a lot of the fear away with all the amazing info they share!
"We're just gonna keep going, its too late now" one of the best/worst phrases of any project. Cant wait to see phase 2 my dude!
This whole project can be summed up in that one phrase
Just discovered the channel, waiting for part 2 now!
uploading now!

The journey has officially begun 🫡
Its going to be one hell of a journey
Yrs ago i started shaping surfboards stripping old beaters. It's doable.
Definitely a TON more work than just getting a new blank but way more rewarding saving a board

Is it possible to salvage the old fiberglass?
There are ways to salvage it but it's not what I was looking to accomplish for this build.
A dremel would save you heaps of time for next project like this.
yeah 1000%
I need to learn how to surf...
Yes, yes you do
