For a more terrifying scenario, focus on building unease through subtle cues, instead of going for the direct fear factor through a spooky looking distorted character. Yep this. Stuff like "this thing is starting to get too aggressive and crazy all physical characteristic increase beyond recognition" is a no go. It should be "the entity then becomes very aggressive and dangerous, capable of superhuman feats like incredible strenght and speed" "it'll turn you into a bunch of useless human flesh" isn't great either.
