    Dougo -- I remember my father's JD55. I was only about 7-8 years old (I am 64 now) when he had it. Then he went to a JD95. Then a JD105. His last combine was a JD4400 Diesel. Well, actually he had one more after that and it was a J.I. Case 1660 (not a Case IH but an actual Case before the merger). He got that Case after he semi-retired and just had the home place of 80 acres to farm instead of the 1000 acres we were renting. It had a Chrysler 318 gas engine. He liked it a lot and he got a great deal on it when he bought it in about 1977. BTW, you know why they paint JD tractors green don't ya? It's so they can hide in the grass when the big red ones roll by. LOL.

    Loved your dissertation on tractors. Started farming for myself in 1975 and my mentors told me the same thing have been running red tractors for over 50 years . As. A matter of fact our chore tractor which gets started and used everyday of the year is a Super M that was manufactured 2 weeks before I was born in 1953. My Grandfather bought it new and it has served 4 generations of our family for the last 69 years.

    You know you could do all the greasing up when you get back in the evening then you wouldn't get dirty first thing in the morning. Another option would be to keep a set of 'greasing' cloths at work and change in/out of them each day.

    • @justthings6405
      @justthings6405 ปีที่แล้ว

      After a long days work, there is no way in h$ll you have the stamina or ambition to work on a combine for another couple of hours as they have been up for 16 hours straight! You must be an armchair watcher not to realize that!!

    • @billlane7486
      @billlane7486 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@justthings6405 there are always choices and if not being dusty in the combine is more important then spending the time in the evening is a simple solution. After all it won't have to be done in the morning and if everyone is doing their own kit then someone oversleeping doesn't put more work on others. When you grease the kit makes no difference to the day length, it has to be done some time. While the machine would be hot and may make it less pleasant to get to some areas doing it after working also gives a chance for things to cool down and any potential ignitions to be stopped before the whole shed is a smouldering pile of ash.
      And no, I'm not a farmer but I'm old enough to understand choices when they are there!

      @@billlane7486 Ok, farmer or not, after a long trip of driving 16 hours straight and before you go into your house, stay in garage and change your oil, grease your car, air your tires, and blow the air cleaner out. I'm just totally talking about FATIQUE, both mentally and physically! Groceries/suitcases are work enough to hall into the house after a long day. My choice is to tackle the task the next morning, but do put the ice cream in the freezer at least!🥶

      The view of that area around Artichoke, from atop the new bin, is spectacular, if you love a rural landscape, which I do! I have always enjoyed the view from high spots on terra firma. I have traveled to/through Minnesota aboard passenger trains and was exposed to the land ( in MT ) where the Welkers farm, from the Sightseer lounge car on the Empire Builder, once and later the iron ore range between Duluth and Hibbing from a private train. Love the upper Midwest and Big Sky lands, as they remind me of our farm lands in Sowega.

    Chet, You may have already considered this but you hadn't mentioned it so I will put it out there: Another option on the lease expiration for the combine might be to buy out the lease and then sell the unit and lease its replacement. Since used equipment prices have jacked sky high too you may be able to get more from the unit than the cost of the lease buy-out. This could lessen the pain of acquiring a new unit, while keeping your strategic plan of rotating equipment often enough to keep repair costs down, in place.
    BTW, you could put Eric's mustache to shame by going for the mustache/goatee combination for a month or two!

    Chet, I hope your bin system got back up and running soon after the end of this video! Dougo.... I was a little dizzy going up on top of your bins with you! It was fun though! 😉 O.K.... who remembers when Case tractors were Flambeau Red and Desert Sand? Our 2 Cases, 930 & 830, circa the late 1960's, are kinda pretty. Our R and A JD's are green! If the tractor runs..... drive it! Until your next video ~~~ Stay safe, healthy and happy! 🚛 🚜 🚚 🌽🌽🌽🌽
