Just a simple lowcut to 100hz its a easier way too, it adds more clarity

My biggest problem is giving space to instruments in a mix. Always someone complaining, cant hear keys, cant hear acoustic, cant hear electric guitar..etc. Would be possible for a video on such topic? Very few of those available on youtube, and mostly with professional musicians on tracks that we do not have :)

My biggest problem at my church is the instruments are playing so loud people can't hear the choir vocals

hello, your video is great and it helps me a lot... I would like to know if it would be possible to make a video for each instrument. and also make a video for Gate, Dynamics and Gain, I don't know how to set them correctly. and it's causing a big problem and I feel like I'm not doing things right. would it be possible to make a video on this topic please.

Our church is relatively small, figure an average of 20 -40 people, including kids on average, with seating for upwards of around 100-200(haven't actually counted how many chairs are set up in our usual Sunday placement) and we don't use drum mic's or anything, and only use an (electric?) Acoustic guitar and a standard electric keyboard, like a Yamaha or something like that (nothing fancy). what would be a good rule of thumb (on the x32 compact as shown in your video) for doing proper EQ to get everything sounding cohesive, so none of the voices or instruments are overpowering everything else??? I mean, the installer kinda set everything up, and the volume sliders are generally set by the time I get there, but I'm wondering, if there's something I can do, like using EQ for instance, to make our mixes sound that much better than they already do, as I'm pretty sure nothing has been done in the EQ side of things, aside from possibly voice(I have bad ears as far as voice EQ goes, I think, so not sure if I'd be able to do the voice properly, if it does not already got some tuning done)

Sorry I missed this! Check out my latest video about setting levels. I would say to be sure your PA is only pointing at the bodies in the room (if that’s possible) to reduce the reflections in the room, then take a good listen to each individual thing on stage and make sure the source tone is as good as possible, then set the volumes for each thing so that everything fits with the drums. Let the drum volume dictate how loud the mix is overall and if that’s too loud then (possibly forcibly) have your drummer play with hot rods to keep the volume down 😅 those are my initial thoughts on how you can make the best of that situation!

@@jakerussellaudio thankfully our drummer is a bit handicapped where the actual drumming is concerned, and the only drum we really would normally have to worry about, the foot operated one, has a sound deadening blanket inside to help cut down the boom, and as for the other drums, the drummer plays a simple beat. The problem our drummer has is she's in a motorized wheelchair. She can walk, somewhat, but after a car accident she had around 15 years ago, well, the wheelchair is the most comfortable way for her to get around, and she's got arthritis too if I remember correctly. Don't get me wrong, even though she doesn't have much training to play the drums, as far as I'm aware, and she doesn't play extra loud or anything, likely because of her physical handicaps, she still is plenty good enough to up how our music sounds. I mean, just adding a drum to the guitar and piano, it takes, how do I want to put it? It takes our 2d audio and makes it 3d, if that analogy makes sense?
As I said before, my main problem is going to be my ears. I have an ear tube in my left ear sometimes (until it falls out) which can help, but otherwise I'm effectively listening with a very spatially(and otherwise) challenged set of ears, with my left working at a guess of15-20% and my right working at 95% efficiency.

That’s an interesting issue. Are you running multiple channels from your keyboard?

whats the purpose of having 2 keys on the mixer?

    • @jakerussellaudio

When you run a keyboard in stereo you are able to basically split the low end of the keyboard and the high end to come out of the each main speaker somewhere separately so the keyboard sounds big and wide. To do that it takes 2 faders on the x32. It’s a night and day difference when compared to running mono 👍
