- Goals and highlights from Liverpool's league title-winning 1989/90 season, taken from the official season review video (which had league games only) plus all the cup goals (except Peter Beardsley's goal against Swansea in the FA Cup which the cameras missed).

What an exceptional player Barnes was before his serious injury in 1991/1992 ( he was still decent when he returned but had lost all his pace )
2 hours' worth of an emotional roller coaster thanks to Mr. Waller. The Aldridge farewell, the Hillsborough memorial, Robert Fleck pleading with referee not to book Hysen, John Barnes Out of this planet performances, The Great Ian Rush, Beardsley's magic, the happy people, 18th title... Wow, what a team, what a club, and the great supporters of course..... thank you time and time again Dave....
Little did they know that this would be their last League Title for 30 years.
Still 6 Champions League, the pride of england in european football so thanks them i guess? 😂

This whilst Liverpool missed the likes of Roy Keane and Alan shearer 😢 😭

King Kenny's men were superb for 6 seasons:
1985-86: League Champions, FA-cup winners
1986-87: 2nd in league
1987-88: League Champions, FA-cup runners-up
1988-89: 2nd in League, FA-cup winners
1989-90: League Champions
1990-91: 2nd in League
Pity that we didn't win the 88-89 season. But King Kenny had one of the best Liverpool teams
and only bettered by Klopp's men who will win the Title whenever they resume the season.
If you're going to list the honours properly don't forget Liverpool won the screen sport super cup (beating Everton in the final) in1986- 1987 and also were runners up in the league cup to Arsenal that season too
Liverpool were top of the league when Kenny left in feb of 1991.

Was in the Kop at the QPR match, when the news came through about the Villa game the buzz went from the Kop all the way around the ground from right to left until the news reached Dalglish. The goosebumps we're everywhere.

One becomes nostalgic when watching this one. I was 16 years old and in awe with English football and European tournaments. Liverpool was very entertaining and we could enjoy their games in continental Europe thanks to the first pay tvs.

Couldn't believe it when Souness sold Beardsley to Everton of all clubs , it really pissed me off, one of his many mistakes. I mean Mark Walters compared to Beardsley, I know the different type players but they also a class apart , don't mean to be disrespectful to Mark Walters I really don't . Beardsley was class. YNWA

For me Kenny was too loyal to his ageing squad and he realised that, that’s why he resigned in the end…. Souness took too much of the blame
Yeah, I agree with you. To be honest. 2 out of 3 title-winning teams we won under Kenny were fortunate. Our defence in 1985/1986 and 1989/1990 was awful. We conceded 42 goals in 1985/86 and 1989/90 we conceded 37 goals. For me, 1987/88 was Kenny's best season in terms of management. we conceded 24 that season.
I totally agree, Liverpool’s shock defeat to Watford in 1970, signaled the breakup of that side, Shankly told his staff that they would never let this happen again, Souness said when he signed in1977 they were still talking about it, and this showed in the signings, Gillespie and Nicol, always strengthen when you are on top.

I was at the Liverpool v Crystal Palace match in the kop when I was 19 , the kop were singing " we want 10" it was electric when Aldo came on to take the penalty , the kop sang his name to come on when we got the penalty as well, Going say the obvious now and tell you it would have unthinkable to believe that season would be last time.e we won the title for another 30 yrs. With hindsight, yes. I think at the time Rush and Beardsley had become the first choice front 2 and with the cost of redeveloping the ground to be all-seater looming, an offer of £1.1m for a sub who was nearly 31 was too much to turn down. As it turned out Beardsley had injuries and we ended up signing Rosenthal for a similar amount even though - despite his amazing initial impact - he wasn't as good a player as Aldridge. Whether Aldo would have looked for a move if he couldn't get in the team I don't know, but he's definitely bitter about how he was treated.
Dave Waller he had 2 great seasons in 87/88 and 88/89 but it seemed to me that as soon as rush came back, Aldridge wasn’t first choice anymore. Because of that I can see why he felt like he did.
100% was sold too soon. Rush didn't score 20 league goals in a season once after his return. Sentiment saw him replace Aldo not goal scoring ability. Aldo is the top scorer in the British Isles since the war
@@michaeloraghailligh4495 Aldridge was good enough to play at the top level for a few years yet, I mean he scored at the USA 94 world cup aged 36 and was banging in 25 a season for tranmere till he was around 40!
i remember qpr playing on astro turf those days but i'm pretty sure luton did as well
QPR had gone back to grass by this point but Luton were still playing on plastic until 1991. With a grass pitch and away fans allowed in the ground, they were relegated in 1991/92, which may or may not have been a coincidence.
No squad rotation much back then. Strong sides fielded in the League Cup
Since they're banned from the Champions League anyway

If he d have kept a few players just one more season while bringing Robbie , young Steve Mac , Redknapp through it could have been different As for bring Mark Walters in the less said the better😅 but it was a joy watching kennys team . To be fair, Speedie did quite well at Liverpool in the short time he was there. Probably should have stayed longer. He had an uncanny knack of scoring important goals.
Best team that season against a pretty average lot, but the penalties they got were a joke lol. Any Liverpool player who fell over in the box seemed to get a spot-kick.
Seeing that Norwich player argue against both Liverpool yellow cards really shows you the downfall of modern football since.
I’m not saying grobalar was shit but cheez he just looks shocking this season.
Season reviews are mostly a collection of goals, so defenders and goalkeepers are never going to look as good as there were. I don't think Grobbelaar was particularly poor this season.
Goal nets were much less impressive back then. The ball went in and just stopped with the net barely moving. Celebrations involved a quick gentlemanly handshake, head pat or high 5. Nowadays the players act like complete morons when they score. You've got spurs players doing finger puppets and other strange gestures, other players looking like they are on an episode of win, lose or draw, or just outright mayhem, pile-ups, clothes getting ripped off, slip and slide, back flips etc.

He was the regional commentator for Granada in the late 1970’s and 1980’s. Also started commentating for The Sports channel on BSB and on Screen sports.
