- Goals and highlights from Liverpool's 1990/91 season, taken from the official season review video. The video only included Liverpool goals not goals against, so I have edited it to include all the goals.
The original video also included longer highlights of the games against Leeds United and Crystal Palace towards the end of the season. I have cut these down as they made it seem unbalanced. If you want to see more of these games please see:
Leeds: • Leeds United v Liverpo...
Crystal Palace: • Liverpool v Crystal Pa...
Thanks to Lee Gittons and distantvoices for some of the extra footage here. I also used various goals from youtube so thanks to the following people/channels: Molly1260, stablestaple, Adrian Houghton, TJS Sports, FinestFootballTeam, covonthebox, SunderlandAFCTV, WESTEND126, Dave de Rave and AFCGuildford. - กีฬา
Felt sorry for Kenny when he left. could tell he never got over the trauma of Hillsborough and the aftermath of that disaster. Well done Liverpool on Championship number 19 when they do wrap it up think this current team could go on to achieve further success
Christ the defending in the 4-4. Grobelaar throwing a few in too.
1:54:25 "I'm quite sure that Liverpool have made a very good appointment in Graeme Souness. Anyone who thinks this is the beginning of the end for Liverpool should think again."
The commentator turned out wrong on both accounts.
The day we lost to Forest, I remember it like yesterday, when our hopes of winning were done and dusted.
I was at the game at Derby where Liverpool won 7-1. Liverpool tore us to shreds.
The game at Elland Road summed up Liverpool that season.
Spot on! Majestic beyond words in the first half, shambles in the second
Looking back im amazed we let beardsley leave
Glen Hysen was 24-carat dogshit
Liverpool started magnificent this season 1990/91 even better than 89/90 season just unfortunate round about April 91 they blew it
Just like this season
Am not a Liverpool fan but huge respect to Dave Waller for making so much footage available for us.
Failing to adequately replace Lawrenson & Hansen exposed underlying problems in the team. Recruitment was mostly woeful from '91 - 99.
And the strange decision not to play and then sell Peter Beardsley who was still smashing in lots of PL goals for Newcastle well into his 30s was a massive error
Nice one for the upload. Still can't believe i watched this season over 30 years ago.
John Barnes goal against Aston Villa...!!!! One of his best...!!!!
Between Bruce n Glen they both cost us that season
With the emergence of real pacy strikers our defence couldn’t keep up
Merci pour cet excellent reportage
We looked unstoppable until the Arsenal game at Highbury then it all unravelled and fell apart
Kenny resigned because of the all the pain of Hillsboro.
That tragedy hurt our club so much in those years.
If Kenny had stayed at Anfield for longer, I'm sure we would have won more titles.
Bollocks you beat everton in the fa cup final n tanked West ham 5 0 a few weeks later. You wasn't good enough to stop arsenal
@hughesyplays Thanks for your Alan Davies levels of sensitivity here. Also you're re-writing history. The West Ham game was on the Tuesday night after the FA Cup Final, with the Arsenal game on the Friday, not a few weeks later. Arsenal had a good team, but it seems common sense to suggste the fixture pile up and emotional strain on Liverpool players played some part in the final game. Not to mention that this was only the last game of the season because ITV picked it like that when LIverpool's fixtures were rearranged after Hillsborough. If that game had been on 23 April as scheduled I don't think Arsenal would have won 2-0.
Liverpool played some great football this season l remember well. Looking back, playing first team in League Cup second round.
Amazing how keepers never noticed 99% of Barnes' pens went to their right.
Great player, thick goalies.
born that year....kinda crazy everyone had to wait 30 more years for a title.
The last season of that era of dominance for Liverpool. They probably would have won the league in 90/91 if it wasn’t for injuries. Defensive lapses didn’t help either. You could see how much they missed Hansen.
@Jenny Baird United have had their days in the sun ....now its finally Liverpools time again until 2030 at least

Aged well 😂😂😂
Had this on VHS. Love the bed music - The Farm / Groovy Train. Still play it lots. Great tune. Instantly think of this season.
Hysen was dreadful wasn't he, looking back?
Was a fine player years before that, but was probably past his best when they signed him.
Remember Torben Piechnik?
Seaso started so well
Grobbelaar Nicol Ablett Staunton Burrows Venison Gillespie Hysen Molby Houghton McMahon Whelan Beardsley Barnes Rush. Still a good team.
Probably just lacking another top quality centre back with Hansen out injured and then retiring. As you say, the rest were good.
My youth
Then came utd! Boooom!
The forest game at home my first ever game
John Barnes was surly the greatest player in the world at that time along with Rudd Guillit both world class performers. Amen
Souness was poison for Liverpool. Sold quality and replaced it with absolute shite. Thought he was a big deal because he dominated a two team league.
4 different cluds won the championship in England and Scotland between 1980 & 1991 wasnt a 2 team league back then, Souness was shite thou
I know, Beardsley getting replaced with Saunders for example🤮
Wanted to change things too quickly.
Souness set us back to the Stone Age
Alls he needed to do was replace a slow n weak defence the attack was still firing bigtime
@@21macca21 agreed. I’m not a Liverpool fan but even I could see that he was making bad decisions. You look at the game at Leeds for example. That summed Liverpool up that season.
