@Dino Tyrannos My apologies. That was a bit of pony-speak that leaked in.
Pffft.. I believe in no Gods or Goddesses save the supernatural source of wisdom our great Emperor tapped into to bring us out of the Clone Wars. No way that was brain power alone!
I see why Lord Vader (our Emperor's sorcerer bodyguard/friend) looks up to our Emperor.. Heck the only thing there is to disagree on is the Tarkin doctrine. That doctrine is likely the only reason many civilians *hate* us!
Oh no.. Tarkin, why? Now I'm getting sad. °^°

well under Mon Mothma disarment in new Canon definitely...
in Legends however Corellia and Kuat were quite prominent system who lived of New Republic military.
(however truth is that during GA when it tried to disarm the systems that did not work quite well...)
in general GA could take down Corelia and others if it was not continualy sabotaged by Lumiya trough Jacen Solo...
but for significant time few "wealthy systems" were able to go toe to toe with GA (especially since not everyone was willing to commit resources to full scale war.)
Canon Corellia also benefited from having 5 habbitable planets which allowed the system incredible self sustainability.

Well... they did actually build cruisers, dreadnaughts (something like "Katana" version -. in fact I think Katana class dreadnaught is the most well designed ship in whole franchise... followed narrowly by Harrower class of old Sith Empire (there it was done by simply "fixing" star destroyer design so it actually has effective gun placement), fighters and such...
but star destroyers were eventually built even at Mon Calamary, and Lando was selling one version of new pirate catcher and interdictors made Tendrando Arms which was almost a Star destroyer size to Galactic Alliance.

      +Dan Thompson,
In the Warhammer 40k universe, yes, yes it would ;)
      ...
      ...
No but seriously, it is acceptable to say, ''The Empire protects!" because that is the socio-political claim the Empire always made for itself to the public. They built an enshrined doctrine and ''winner's history'' around the claims that, in their propaganda at least, they were protecting the galaxy from the turbulence of the Clone Wars. The turbulence, that is, of Separatism. Essentially, Palpatine had brought a vast portion of the galaxy to the conclusion that the Empire had averted the continuation of the bloodshed (that literally killed fucking billions) in the Clone Wars, and that the only answer to the chaos was the order of Empire.
He had duped so many into what was, essentially, arguing for his side of things in a majestically vast, galaxy spanning myth. We could characterise it as a huge form of strawman fallacy; that the enemy was division, and that Palpatine and the Galactic Empire had saved the galaxy from said division. Naturally, these people did not understand that the Empire was founded on lies and yet that detail clearly didn't matter to old Palpatine, the sly devil. He took the galaxy by storm like a wolf in sheep's clothing and then spun the narrative that the war *HE literally organised meticulously down to tactical level engagements* and financial transactions, was spontaneous and down to the strawman opponent he also created through Dooku and others, of the Separatists. General Grievous committed so many war crimes and heinous atrocities, that this just seemed to prove everything. A lot of the history genuinely was not propaganda, and figures like Grievous were remembered as a boogeyman and a sign of what happens when Separatists get into a war. The rebel alliance were of course, simply seen as divisive Separatists/neo-Separatists come again to haunt the ''peaceful galaxy''.
Point being, that the EMPIRE protects and that is not just to say, the Emperor alone. He was not seen by the average joe Imperial going to his 9-5 job as a living god on Coruscant (or Holy Terra, in the case of the God Emperor of Mankind in W40K as we both know you're hinting at lol and yes my comment did tongue in cheek slightly reference the W40K universe too, but only in a secondary capacity; primarily it was referring to the actual way the SW Galactic Empire saw itself)
The Empire of Palpatine, was not the Empire of the God Emperor of Mankind. In the latter universe, the fact is gods are real and not some myth. Most Imperials were *specifically led to believe that Palpatine was an everyday humble Gungan lover* and seen as a grandfather figure. Since the Clone Wars, his face, words and confidence against the Separatist ''aggressors'' (lol, not exactly fair is it, they just wanted freedom; though the Seppy leadership were assholes sadly who wanted more money cough Nute Gunray etc but still most were normal folk who disagreed with the hegemony of the imperialistic, so-called democratic Republic that was imperial in all but name anyway, as they thoroughly proved by going to war over it) was a sign of hope and reassurance to scared and worried citizens of the Republic.
This theme continued into the Galactic Civil War era; though less and less people, especially in the military, were convinced. It must be noted though, that most Imperials did not see Emperor Palpatine behave the way he did to his own military. The military were numerous indeed but still numerically inferior to the bulk of the population of the civilians of the galaxy (trillions VS quadrillions) Essentially, Palpatine could be ''his true self'' to officers he'd literally barbecue with force lightning if they pissed him off, but to the public?
Well to them he still tried to act innocent - even with big fuck off ma-hoo-ssive skyscraper sized statues of himself on Coruscant lol No zippety zapping for them unless he could get them alone out of sight or they were dragged to him for a personal meeting which would consist of him finding ways to enjoy killing them for disobeying or displeasing him. I pity the Imperials mostly for the fact they were so convinced of their Empire and honour bound to fight for it, and die for it. But, Palpatine was the puppet-master and like a big nasty fuck off spider at the centre of a web strung with many flies around him, who he sucked dry till he'd gotten all they had left out of and discarded of them. In the deleted scenes of ROTJ, Palpatine fully intended to fire on Endor even though that meant killing every last Imperial on the planet. They were failing to beat the rebels at that point and Sidious must have known, and so fully intended to achieve victory another way at any cost. The Empire would have been something so much more if not for Palpatine. Well, without Palpatine it wouldn't exist at all but you get my point? His men were fighting for a different version of reality that he had invented and conned the galaxy into believing. They were perhaps the greatest victims of all (you know, apart from fucking Alderaan, rest in peace lol)
Anyhow.... modern SJW Star Wars is fucking with the canon so much that they'd have us believe almost all the citizens were anti-Empire - see the mess that was Star Wars Rebels (had its moments, but just an SJW shitfest in general, really cheesy, really predictable, really biased) Palpatine literally tries to pass himself off as the victorious Emperor who liberated the galaxy, innocently and logically. The whole disfigurement by Jedi thing. And on that note, why would the entire galaxy seem to forget Jedi were real and not some mythical space ponies or unicorns or something, when Palpatine officially addressed the Jedi as his would be assassins *to the fucking senate publicly* in front of the Republic listening to his words being broadcast? This is fucking canonical so there is no fucking way whatsoever that Jedi would be forgotten. They were the great boogeymen of Imperial propaganda, the ring leaders of the Separatists supposedly, the masterminds of the Clone Wars, the big bad of yesteryear; when that was literally just Palpatine projecting his own fucking role in everything and trolling the galaxy, friend and foe alike. He even trolled Dooku remember.
The Emperor, does protect; according to Imperial propaganda. But not like the God Emperor of Mankind. Though 1,000 psyches a day need to die in a ritual to keep the zombie like corpse of the God Emperor's soul in the material world and out of the hellish immaterium, amounting to millions over the years. And he is a massive tyrant and psychopath even worse than Palpatine in quite a lot of ways actually. Nevertheless, the God Emperor in W40K is fighting to keep humanity alive in at least some form against the darkness, at least, so we are told. People are still just disposable tools for him in the grand scheme; hell, entire planets are. But at least he did actively fight ''for'' the people, and to save systems under threat, and is about the only thing, even in his crippled and deathly state post-Horus Heresy, keeping the human race going in a bizarre paradigm. Palpatine was just a cunt and that is pretty obvious. He only cared about the Sith.
Even so, we have to give Palpy one bit of credit; he didn't literally want to end all life in the universe - he wanted to control it. Which, is still megalomaniacal and sinister as fuck, but still not as bad as what another Emperor in SW history wanted to do....
If we *compare Emperor Palpatine to Emperor Valkorion/Vitiate* then Palpatine actually starts to seem reasonable and sound of mind lol that motherfucker wanted to become a force entity God and kill all life in the universe (not stopping with the SW galaxy) He saw time itself as something to conquer and wanted to live forever, and yes, Palpatine did too, but not like that. Not as a spirit form god with nobody to boss around. Palpatine loved power.
It is essentially the same situation if we compare Sauron to Melkor (his boss) aka Palpatine is Sauron, Melkor is Valkorion in this comparison (though technically whereas Sauron was much weaker than Melkor though still very strong, Palpatine could be argued to be combatively stronger than even Valkorion/Vitiate, though one could argue Vitiate was superior in terms of knowledge of the force and the dark side, and Sith magic, though Sidious was fucking impressive at that too; aka the comparison has its limits but whatever) Sauron wanted to dominate and conquer, tyrannise Arda i.e. Earth including Middle-Earth. He wanted to rule all. But not to destroy the fabric of the universe (Ea) itself.
He wanted to rule over a downtrodden, hellish world. But he didn't want to tear the universe itself apart. That, by the way, was what Melkor really had in mind from the start. Yep, all of it, all the beautiful stories and ordeals of the characters of the entire history of Tolkien's legendarium, can be boiled down to, ''Melkor was mad at Eru Illuvatar aka God and wanted to rage quit and delete the fucking universe cos he was not allowed to be the boss like his dad God''. The entire situation with Sauron who was essentially gay for Melkor (lol, maybe not literally but who knows, and hey a lot of fan art out there wants to believe that ship haha) was that he sort of tragically never realised he was just Melkor's bitch to discard and to be honest, if he got his way it'd be death for everyone to spite God. Sauron fought for 5000 fucking years after Melkor got banished into the Void (i.e. space portal hell) through the Door of Night. Everything he did was in Melkor's name before, during and long after the War of Wrath in which Melkor was cast down in the biggest war in the Tolkien Legendarium by far (at least pre-end times Dagor Dagorath, but that is another matter lol) Whereas Sauron AKA Palpatine sincerely wanted to fly the banner for the devil i.e. Melkor, who he truly loved and admired, Melkor AKA Valkorion wanted TIME TO END.

They did the same with Anaxes.
In legends, it was a part of the mighty Axum system, Core World with rich history and military traditions.
Canon Anaxes(Clone Wars) : it is somewhere in the Outer Rim, backward, it is even destroyed later and became an asteroid belt

I encounter civilians like you all the time. You believe the Empire is continually plotting to do harm. Let me tell you, your view of the Empire is far to dramatic. The Empire is a government. It keeps billions of beings fed and clothed. Day after day, year after year, on thousands of worlds, people live their lives under Imperial rule without seeing a stormtrooper or hearing a TIE fighter scream overhead.

"You believe the Empire is continually plotting to do harm."
What else is it doing with those giant battle stations? Those things weren't created for any humanitarian purposes...
      "The Empire is a government."
And governments are sociopathic by nature - never trust them.

"What would global government be, then?"
I doubt that such a thing can exist for very long - too many fingers in too many pies for that to sustain itself.
      "Isn't nationalism Resistance against globalism?"
Only insofar as one predator resists another predator in a fight over hunting grounds - the prey animals don't really benefit regardless of which predator comes out on top.
" Isn't pathological altruism more devastating than sociopathy?"
In practice the outcome is very much the same.

He meant the original one. The one with no loot boxes. The one with a decent campaign that acts like a real Battlefront game and not an FPS with one overpowered character. The one with better multiplayer levels where you objective is simply to beat the crap out of the enemy however you want to instead of being forced to complete specific objectives. The one that's better despite being twelve years older.

I don't argue that it is perfect. The campaign isn't the high point although it does present quite the challenge. I usually play on GC or multiplayer. That's where the game really shines. The levels aren't linear and you can chose whatever best suits you, there are no wrong choices.

  • @ericmcsorley5837
    @ericmcsorley5837 4 ปีที่แล้ว +16

I always thought that life improved significantly for many Outer Rim worlds under the Empire: abolishment of slavery, a major contributor to Darth Vader's loyalty (in the original works) which the Republic condoned (Episode 1), and the Empire fought against (Clone Wars, the Empire also hired the Clones, not forced them to be there, Rebels), protection from raider attacks and corporate exploitation, also condoned or at least ignored by the Republic, in fact encouraged in the case of the corporations (Free Trade Zone), credits flowing to somewhere other than the corrupt core (or Hutt Space), large criminal syndicates losing influence, massive works projects and employment moving from the core to people ignored for millennia by the Republic, etc.
In fact, the only places that seemed to suffer were corrupt systems and planets with massive insurgency issues. Which, what are you going to do about? As well, I can't think of any canon suggesting lower wages, and say what you will, the militarizing of a populace nation tends to greatly improve the lives of the adverage citizen, especially if the workforce stays within its borders. Even in Rebels, until Zeb and Ezra started gunning down people randomly in the street, Lothal seemed to be at least okay. Jetta and Alderaan may actually have been Tarkin going off the rails, he didn't receive any orders, he just started attacking places. This being the same guy that parked a cruiser on protestors, without being stripped of rank by the Senate. We don't know what the ramifications of his choices may have been, he kind of blew up, in a non-JJ time, so he didn't come back.
Plus, most of the problems seemed to come during the reign of a Core focused corrupt Senate (Leia was running around committing treason using her daddy's credentials to do so) and less during the Emperor's (not saying he's a hero or nothing, but what did he directly do (give orders to do) to the people? Even the game, you can't guarantee it was actually his orders. Plus, the Empire and Emperor, with rare exception (Tarkin / Vadar) seemed to value the lives of the citizenry (and its officer core, generally re-assigning screw ups, instead of force choking them) not sure about Thrawn, but he was never random, till the end of Rebels. And even then the whole of Lothal was in revolt). In point of fact, it seems most of the bad actors were force users and their direct allies. I like Mon Mothma, but she gave up on diplomacy, while it was still possible. The Senate was not disbanded for another few years, after she left. And what happened after the glorious rebellion? Complete and utter chaos, more so with the Disney canon (no Empire, no Republic), much better lives in a Galaxy wide leaderless power vacuum.

The Empire was fashioned after colonial England. Hence, why they have British accents, fleets of large battleships, etc. The fact they're trying to change the narrative after the fact to something else, doesn't undo the original idea. Neither Russia nor Germany is too famous for colonial expansion, one of their colonies breaking away and fighting them, multiple battleships, nor British accents. It's their product, but no revisionism will change what the story was
