Patriot is also reliable got a 256gb patriot U3 V30 micro sd card for 28$ left and tested adn put over 240gb stuff on it and worked well got a 2nd just cause of how much storage it was
Lachlan Whittle right now, skyrim is the only thing keeping me sane till the release. Im a huge zelda nerd so the new zelda looks like a wet dream to me
Since I always get physical copies of games I'll probably wait until a 64/128 GB Samsung Evo or Sandisk Ultra gave a good sale on Amazon. Love how you compared the cost, speed and storage and found a good in between for average consumers.
+Steven Lee I'm not going to buy any memory card until I run out of space on the internal memory. This may take years, if ever, because I too get physical copies, and only buy a handful of eshop games.
Steven Lee I thought the same with my wii u, but then my free club nintendo account game, (dk tropical freeze) and xenoblade chronicles x and it's download data so it runs better killed its 30 internal memory.
Well, I think I have a pretty good Micro SD Card already then, It is a XC with speed 10, it has 128GB, and it is a Sandisk. It was bought for my Hauwei P8 Lite, it was only used for music so it felt like an overkill. So it can go to the Switch, when I get one. Then I can buy another for my phone, that is cheaper.
As a pro photographer I'd like to compliment you for your excellent clear and rational advice. I've been on a few forums and been shocked at the responses from people, many going on about needing the fastest possible etc, and far worse is people linking to some truly awful retailers. Thanks again, sharing this will spare me a lot of typing!
SD, SDHC or SDXC is related to format and capacity. UHS-I and UHS-II is related to bus speed, maximum speed it can get in bursts. Class 10 and U3 are for minimum sequential writing speed, so it's the least constant writing speed the card can sustain, therefore, good for video recording. Games will use both max bus speed and minimum constant speed, so any U3 card should be good. For those wondering, Class 10 and U1 are the same, both are 10MB/s, U3 and the new V30 are 30MB/s, so V60 and V90 are respectively 60MB/s and 90MB/s, and "V" stands for video, this new V standard is much easier to understand.
This was a great video. I was always a bit unsure of what SD card I would get for this thing, but you've helped clear a few things for me. Also, did no one else notice that sick trick shot he did with the green shell? 2:37
I, Myself, cannot wait for the console/handheld/appreciate to release. I had picked up a 128 Samsung Pro+ 95 read 90 write and this video has certainly given me comfort in that decision. @Blunty are you considering a portable battery pack to keep your switch going while you yourself are on the go?
I expect my usage while traveling will require a battery backup yes... much like I require one for my phone while traveling. (But I do wonder if, like my phone, the USB power on board many airplanes these days will have sufficient current to keep the switch running while gaming :3 )
I don't know, that is a good point. Perhaps Nintendo will release some more information regarding the system and is requirements...oh wait, it's Nintendon't so they won't. Lol
Spencer Druckey I bought the same one you did. Price is a bit steep, but Samsung SSD's and sd cards have proven themselves. I like to know the SD card shouldn't/isn't going to be a bottleneck. That's why I spent more on it for its specs
Thanks Blunty awesome advice. I ended up getting a 256gig Samsung evo, and all my games at this stage will be physical. Cheers OCEAN by the way good to see another Australian on here. More and more aussies are now on here cheers OCEAN
I was shopping for Micros today, and felt very confused by the variety and terminology of the cards on the shelf. This video has helped IMMENSELY, thank you. =]
I have a simple question, can you save any game data without an SD card? I only plan to play Zelda BOTW, Mario Odyssey, and Sonic Mania, (physical copies of each that is), and perhaps some virtual console titles and that's it. Is this SD card stuff just for extra space? Or does the switch have no space to save data at all?
I just bought a 256Gb Samsung Evo Plus off ebay for $50 and totally got ripped off. It actually only has a 32Gb capacity. BEWARE OF BUYING SD CARDS OFF EBAY!!! DON'T DO IT! Go out and buy a legit one somewhere else.
Excellent video! And who better to hear it from than the camera connoisseur Blunty! I can't tell you how much of a relief it is to know I picked up a good card, it's practically the same SanDisk Extreme you showed off but 128GB. It does say XC instead of HC though, I'm not sure of the difference but I'd bet it doesn't matter too much. Again, very helpful video, cheers!
I am in luck. I first discovered you when was looking for a digital camera (I ended up with a Sony RX100M3). And now for a Nintendo Switch SD card! your videos are always helpful to me! I'll definitely subscribe now. Thanks Blunty!
I plan on getting almost all games physically, and only a few smaller digital games. Any advise from Switch owners on what size card I'd need? Cards have plummeted in price, so I'm not concerned about the price anymore. I was looking to buy a Sandisk from BestBuy online.
Well, dang. I was watching the video, after having already ordered a MicroSD card for use with the Switch.. And it just so happens that I've ordered the EXACT card that he suggest. That being the 64GB SanDisk Ultra one. Lucky me!
You should have more viewers than other youtubers with senseless videos. You're channel is underrated. I really like the quality of videos you put up, better content and humorous comments. Turning the notification to "ON". :)
This was an excellent video. I just watched it in late May and it's still very relevant and helpful. One thing to update - the size of games seems to be quite small for the Switch. Zelda BOTW was under 8GBs and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe was under 6GBs. Splatoon 2 is rumoured at being under 8GB's, too. If you want to buy your games digitally, I think 128GB would probably last you. That would give you a minimum of 10 AAA games plus 40+ GB for VC, Indies etc. Amazon has a SanDisc Ultra 128GB for roughly $45 USD. That's the sweet zone, I think.
Went straight for the 256GB SDXC Sandisk microSD card a good month or so ago. But its nice to know I did invest wisely thanks to your guide. Thank you for a wonderful video!
Do you think the dock will support external Hard Drives? I would happily install some games to just play at home on TV and install some games just for on the go.
ok, yea that makes sense. I guess we will just have to have multiple sd cards basically like Memory cards which I am fine with. Also I think most people will get bigger games physical form anyway.
+Tryhardblackguy I've heard that they're considering support for this in future. I don't think it's a big issue for many people who mainly want to use it at home, as long as there's a way to stop the game from crashing when you disconnect the switch from the dock.
Thanks Blunty! Online stores in general can have fake/cheap cards dressed up as legit good name brand cards, so I do agree on shopping with physical stores (even if they are a bit pricy) - I ended up with a sandisk ultra 128gb (XC I) here, but have tried my switch with a strontium I've used for a few years in my phone though reliable, I realized 32gb might not be enough in the long run for the switch.
Techy here as well and this video is spot on. i got a 128gb 80/20 speed because the write isnt going to matter for saved data. You'll download the data for a game and once its on there the read will do the rest of the work. a speed of 95/90 wont make much a differece.
I'm going to have to agree. Using SanDisk Ultra is probably the best bet for Switch storage. However, I don't think 64GB will be enough. Then again, maybe overtime 128GB cards will become cheaper so if that's the case, then yes 64GB now and then when you run out you can get 128GB. As for how many GB the switch can accept from the card, I hear the maximum amount (with an update) is 2TB micro SD cards. O_O Now this is just a rumor but still...
As an absolute MASTER of all things technology, I have but one question: what does GB stand for? Seriously tho, thanks for this video! I know nothing about speed of SD cards, but now I know what I am getting :)
I found with the 3DS that write speeds were very relevant when it came to saving games. I found my slower SD cards would cause the 3DS to pause and stutter during actually saving while in game. Obviously, a faster card fixed that problem. For this reason, I chose a faster card for the Switch.
Wow, great video Blunty - thanks so much. I've come out of that knowing that what I need for the way I'll use the Switch is a 64gb SDXC. Great - what a terrific service you've provided!
I already bought that exact Sandisk 64GB many many years ago (2012 I think) for my tablet... It has survived 3 tablets and still does fine, I like this recommendation. I was quite a bit more expensive back then though...
Bluntly from always helpful and fun videos i watched in my micro four thirds days, to finding out you're as much into gaming and particularly your videos on the switch, you deliver awesome and impressively informative and down to earth advice. You sir, are a cool guy!
"You pay for speeds you cant use." Makes me think of why they make cars that go 150 only to fine you for going over 70 😂 😂 😂. Interesting info ,man! New subscriber!
i was lucky to have the opportunity to pre-order one. i pre-ordered the switch, zelda, pro controller, the joycon charger, 2 extra joycons, the charge and play, network adapter, screen protector, and bomberman. i cant wait....
thank you I subbed !! your voice over is awesome I can easily understand you !! your videos are straight forward to the facts and everything well explained your my number 1 guy to all switch videos and will be looking into your other content but anyways thanks again you make nintendo switch research fun as I'm waiting till there's more in stock

Thanks for more speed explaining and speed tests. I have bought the San disk Extreme Micro SDXC class 10, small 3 in cup V30 128GB. I'm going all Digital. I used Amazon due to eBay risk. As you advised I will go for Ultra San disk card when the 2TB ones arrive. Do you know what file format Switch will be Blunty? I thought Fat32 like 3DS and Wii U but not sure? Will the Switch use higher read write speeds?
I'm in the same state of mind right now to go physical or digital. It all comes down to speed of the card reader and will an sd card reader beat the physical game speed for loads or what not. I cannot decide
I got mine from ebay and it turned out to be real. Than again I'm an eBay expert and sell on there too, but for most folk, you're better off going to a real store as Amazon can also have fakes.
I clicked for the content, but I stayed for the voice. Man that voice!
SanDisk all the way.
Sarcasmus Mii too
Sarcasmus yeah they are pretty reliable
I like both SanDisk and Samsung. Both have proven to be very reliable and fast for me!
Patriot is also reliable
got a 256gb patriot U3 V30 micro sd card for 28$
left and tested adn put over 240gb stuff on it and worked well
got a 2nd just cause of how much storage it was
Ugh stop teasing me with all these switch videos I'm already excited enough as it is!
It's all that's getting me through until the launch!!! I'm latching on to anything I can get
WarnorBoe yeah I agree it's making me so excited and his videos are always great to
WarnorBoe me too!!!!😫
Lachlan Whittle right now, skyrim is the only thing keeping me sane till the release. Im a huge zelda nerd so the new zelda looks like a wet dream to me

so happy you did this video 😍 going to get mine before the 3rd
i ordered SanDisk Ultra 128GB microSDXC 10....far cheaper then the 256gb but still good amount of space and much better bang for buck
FINALLY!!!!! somebody being clear on what we need for the switch, thanks Blunty.
This was a great video. I was always a bit unsure of what SD card I would get for this thing, but you've helped clear a few things for me.
Also, did no one else notice that sick trick shot he did with the green shell? 2:37
This video was exactly what I was looking for! Thank you!
Intelligently discussing and educating us on the differences between the cards got my subscribe & like.
Thanks I was worried that I was gonna buy the wrong thing and waste my money but this really helped
I'll get the 128 one. That should last me the whole gen since I am buying physical.
Alucard Hellsing don't even bother, you won't need the extra space if you are going physical
Pumpkinpie3080 im going physical however, i will prob get many updates, virtual consol games and some games are download only
BellowSubZero I went all physical and I have a bunch of games on vc for wii u, I still have plenty of space and I have had it since launch

Great video. Also, that shot with the green turtle at 2:38 was fire.
Actually very sound advice and you summarised it perfectly at the end. Thanks!

“Again Nintendo‘s annoying habit of not releasing useful and practical information to consumers makes me want to slap them into low earth orbit” 😅

If you're looking to buy most games physically, just get a 120GB card. Sandisk is the preferred brand
Great video , I bought a Sandisk sdxc uhs1 ultra 128 gb, i hope it will not fail me
Maaziio San disk never failed me either since my first 8MB card (MB not GB)
I want you to be the official narrator of every video containing male narration. Your voice alone was enough to convince me to give you a sub!
The switch will be great! It is my goal to make Nintendo cool again.
You know this video is informative and enjoyable, I have no idea why, but your voice is so damn amazing.
Great video, with lots of useful information. Helped me a lot. Thank you, from Brazil.
Well, dang.

ComfyShortz Oooh that's a nice price.
Nice video! And your voice made it more enjoyable.
swears out of nowhere, a man after of my own heart, appreciate the honesty, keep up the good work!
Do you think the dock will support external Hard Drives? I would happily install some games to just play at home on TV and install some games just for on the go.
I doubt it. I think Nintendo want to keep it as simple as possible.
Tryhardblackguy I doubt it, since you wouldn't be able to to play games you bought digitally away from the TV.
ok, yea that makes sense. I guess we will just have to have multiple sd cards basically like Memory cards which I am fine with. Also I think most people will get bigger games physical form anyway.
Tryhardblackguy Nintendo said that this feature will be supported in the future. I think it's on their website.
+Tryhardblackguy I've heard that they're considering support for this in future. I don't think it's a big issue for many people who mainly want to use it at home, as long as there's a way to stop the game from crashing when you disconnect the switch from the dock.
I got a 64 GB micro SD card from PNY with 95 MB/s read and 80 MB/s write so I'm happy.
This was extremely helpful for purchasing my first SD Card for my Switch, thank you 👍

Just ordered 2 Sandisk 64gb sdxc micro cards. They were on for 28 bucks each. I can not complain. Thanks for the explanation it helped!.
Thanks for your candid honesty. You sir, have earned my subscription.
And I also swear by SanDisk, so this is great to hear.
Great video! Choc full of the info to unmuddy the waters! Thanx

Fantastically informative video dude. Happy I went with a 128gb SanDisk Ultra anyway, but glad that blind bit of luck was the right call!
Thanks Blunty, this is a pretty helpful video. I have a Switch already pre-ordered and looked at SD cards and I went cross eyed with out knowing shit.
fabulous video, you made all the technical stuff so streamlined and easy to understand, cheers dude.
Very helpful video, thanks Blunty
That was a very helpful and very well put together video. Thanks!
Great video! Thanks for the knowledge.
thank you Blunty a very Good video as I was wondering what size sdcard to get.
Love your vids Blunty. Subscribed.

Hey Blunterino, Whats your opinion on the Samsung 128GB EVO Plus?
Getting a 128GB Sandisk card... Been using SD cards and CF cards from Sandisk for a decade now and never had a single issue.
Very informative thank You!
I don't knwo why but for USB I go for sandisk and for Micro SD card I go for samsung, both brands have never fail me, they are the best
This video is very helpful and I like your voice.
"You pay for speeds you cant use." Makes me think of why they make cars that go 150 only to fine you for going over 70 😂 😂 😂. Interesting info ,man! New subscriber!
Fantastically informative video. Great help!
Exactly the video I was looking for. Thank you for this. Liked and subbed. :)
Thanks a ton for this, i will probably invest in an Ultra SD card. Really hoping the Switch turns out to be amazing.
i was lucky to have the opportunity to pre-order one. i pre-ordered the switch, zelda, pro controller, the joycon charger, 2 extra joycons, the charge and play, network adapter, screen protector, and bomberman. i cant wait....
thank you I subbed !!
your voice over is awesome I can easily understand you !! your videos are straight forward to the facts and everything well explained your my number 1 guy to all switch videos and will be looking into your other content but anyways thanks again you make nintendo switch research fun as I'm waiting till there's more in stock
Great breakdown and easily understandable. I appreciate your analysis!
Super useful, you have my thanks and a sub!
Thank you!!! This video helped me soo much!!!!!!!!!
Thanks for the video sir. I appreciate it
Thanks for the advice, Blunty! I already got a Micro SD, but I can say that I've pretty well checked off everything you mentioned. I picked up a Samsung Evo+ 128GB.
Overall great information. I'm in the US and buy amazon (i bought a 128 GB to shoot 4k on a GoPro). Make sure the card is a good brand name (Lexar, Samsung, SanDisk etc.) and it is SOLD BY and SHIPPED BY Amazon. Anything else cannot be guaranteed.
Thank you for the info Blunty. I will go ahead and find what I need now.
Very informative video. Thanks!
Thanks Blunty this video was really helpful
subbed, could listen to your voice all day
as soon as I heard the cough cough Vita, mandatory like and sub..
Do you think that big N took notice and said, we are not doing that !!!
SOOO glad you mentioned those rediculous prices of ps vita memory cards
"Dark lord Trump's currency" LMAO got my thumbs up lol
HELPED SO MUCH
This is very helpful Blunty, thank you for this very informative video!
I subscribed because your voice is so soothing 😂
Thanks for the information, I'll keep these facts in mind
Soo glad the costs on sd cards has fallen so drastically. 😎 thanks for the video
I'm in the same state of mind right now to go physical or digital. It all comes down to speed of the card reader and will an sd card reader beat the physical game speed for loads or what not. I cannot decide
Thank-you VERY much for the information mate, I found this very helpful!
Subscribed really helpful 👍👍
Nice comparison tests that support your suggestions. SDXC/SDHC 64gb it is!
Very helpful thanks
I got mine from ebay and it turned out to be real. Than again I'm an eBay expert and sell on there too, but for most folk, you're better off going to a real store as Amazon can also have fakes.
