@@dr_hamudi3084 1.
The whole opera is on UK TV Sky Arts at this moment. It is beautifully sung and the set and direction is just amazing ! The colours and costumes are not ridiculous, as in so many modern productions nowadays, They seem to fit and the direction just keeps you watching - what is going to happen next and that huge head is so beautiful !
Sorry for my ignorance, but at 4:56 the song became very familiar all of a sudden, was this song in a movie? Sounds like something they would add to Lady and the Tramp for a snippet.
It is undeniably beautiful and incredible, but WHY IN THE WATER, AND EHY SO TERRIFYING???? Amazing performance, incredible visuals, but I do not want to be close to that thing
This is the point with the "Spiel auf dem See" ("Play on the lake") which is the biggest and mostly known part of the Bregenzer Festspiele. To bring an opera to the big stage in the lake. Yes, even "sleeping" (you can access the seat rows during the day) this clown is creepy - and moving and acting does not make it more comfortable. Why the director decided to do so? Probably because Rigoletto as well is a creepy character - a "harmless" jester, but an intriguer as well. All in all a somehow "broken" person (and his big alter ego breaks during the play step by step)
It is kind of disappointing to think that the giant stage piece almost overshadows the actual art of the opera, people more know this festival for the large model and completely overlook the masterful vocals and composition or its entertaining story and history/culture behind it
Did you see it live? I saw and heard it. No, it does NOT overplay the music precision and clear sound of professional voices and musicians. My personal opinion (having it seen some days ago): the big alter ego Rigoletto always supports the acting and gives a "second" channel of communication about the "small" Rigoletto's emotional state. Of course it needs a lot of (perfect working!) equipment to provide the precise sound of a closed orchestra stage to an open field. As well it needs a lot of professional skills of the actors, singers and musicians to provide this whole piece of art - live and each evening during a season. I saw some "modern" ways to direct and design classical opera and not seldom, whatever I saw was the director project his own feelings, life crisis or a current politic subject to an opera - imho abusing libretto and music. The "Rigoletto" in Bregenz was a play where directing and stage design always served to the original story and thus helped to work out about the characters minds and feelings - thats what I want to see in current opera staging. Of course, it is not the only way to do so as they did in Bregenz.
I think Verdi would have totally approved this staging. Did you see the whole play? I would not dare to say a verdict about a 2+ h opera realization...
Verdi turning in his grave. Besides the idiotic staging they corrupted the score making it sound like circus music. The most horrendous thing I have ever seen or listened to.
The stage is incredibly impressive but dear god it’s terrifying!
Meh it needs ominous music to be terrifying.
out of this world
I never thought I'd see the day where Clowns sang opera inside a giant creepy clown animatronic that flips people off.
This is outstanding! I wish I could understand what they were singing
I want to see the complete performance! Such a beautiful, inventive, mesmerizing and memorable moment.
Its worth it! Been there in 2019.
Still thinking of it.... just great!
Humanity in 2019 still had some great expression to show for its time, and respect for past, and projecting the future. Greatness.

This is the most surreal and cool thing I've ever seen.
Anyone else see the clown puppet sticking that middle finger higher than the minecraft sky limit or just me?
Qué obra de arte ¡¡¡ maravilloso

Verdi must be turning in his grave!
I think Verdi would have totally approved this staging. Did you see the whole play? I would not dare to say a verdict about a 2+ h opera realization...
La coreografia ha un che di satanico
Eoe
Pessimo, inascoltabile , povero Rigoletto...
Such a great technical installation, and used to demonstrate middle finger... Disappointing
It’s supposed to be a joke bro
rappresentazione disgustosa, orribile; povero Verdi!
Verdi turning in his grave. Besides the idiotic staging they corrupted the score making it sound like circus music. The most horrendous thing I have ever seen or listened to.
A horrible stage design.
I hoped that they use these big fancy stages for more creative stories and not for opera.. I'm sad. They could have used that big boi for a good story
I mean I get that but there's nothing inherently less creative or complex about operas.
Operas tell just as much story as regular musicals
You must be very uneducated...
I just have different taste. also what I meant is that the big clown should be a character instead of a prop
I did not like the Gimmickry , but maybe I am getting old.

Wasn't this the country that Germany ran over? Austrians did NOTHING
This has nothing to do with war, this is a damn opera
