Save money for a power adder (turbo, NOS, etc) then add the right suspension and tires to match the cars power output. It's obvious these guys are not happy with the performance.
RSR Coilovers = $2000, the Volk Wheels are $3500 but you can get Enkei TS-5 clone for $1000 plus the cost of everything else. I think these guys and everyone here would have been more impressed if they used the money for an 8-15 psi turbo, sway bars, better tires and better struts

I think you guys did a great job on this and I like watching more of these types of videos from you. I think you should keep doing more shorter builds like this Corolla. This also makes me want one now lol but only thing I think I would do differently is delete 1 of the resonators in addition to the custom axleback exhaust you did.

People in the car community should welcome more things like this done to cars. There's so much gate keeping in the community where if you don't have the best sportscar and most power than your car is trash. But in reality we don't need the most aggressive setup for a car to enjoy it. Good brakes, tires and suspension is pretty much what you need, and you done even need that.
It's nice to have a car that can take the abuse of daily driving, rain, snow, potholes, road debris kicking up, reliability, and affordable to maintain is something that you miss when you mod a car too far

I have had my eye on this car since it came out. 169hp, 151lb ft tq, six speed manual, and auto rev-matching (bummer for the spirited car guys but will save you a trans so it gets a pass). It needed Android Auto, which it got. Next is more power, maybe a nice bump to 200 with a small turbo. And a sunroof. But Toyota, if you're listening, I'll skip the sunroof if you give it more power. This is a great platform and I'm happy someone made a video with modifying this car. Europe gets the Yaris hot hatch, so Toyota, we know you're capable of cool stuff. Please do it. PS: I don't like hatches. This car changed my mind. I will own one.

For a reliable and affordable, average horsepower commuter car, your set-up is as good as it gets. You improved everything about this car without going over the top. Some folks want a sharp looking ride with better driver experience that will never see a race track. Now if you will excuse me, I'm going to go hug my little hatchback.

I honestly haven't watched many of your videos recently, but really enjoyed EVERY SINGLE video in this series; the importance of putting some time and effort into providing information relevant to your viewer base cannot be overstated.
I think a lot of youtube viewers wrench vicariously through the unattainable build series (many of us can barely afford our DD, much less afford a dedicated second build). However, with this series, you build something that your viewers can replicate on their own cars. In terms of ROI for driving enjoyment, modifying a car you drive every day is far more enjoyable than a weekend ride or dedicated track car. If we want to keep the joy of automotive enthusiasm alive, I think this is the way to get there.

Traded a 2012 VW Jetta Sportwagen TDI W/a DSG double clutch Transmission and 80K miles on the odometer. It was a hot rod, for sure, compared to the new Corolla, but for daily driving, maintenance cost and sheer dependability, the Corolla should be a hands down winner.

This has been a great series, and I'd argue more in line with most people are likely to do. I love involved builds, but they kind of live in fantasy car land. Sure, some of us have been fortunate enough to do them, but few of us do them regularly as it's really throwing money into a fire (you'll never get back the money you put in). This is a build/series anyone can approach and apply to their situation.

this was awesome, definitely more of these. maybe tune this one's dampers for the streets etc. and then you and other youtubers can review it on the street like the miata on the track

always had a soft spot for old school corolla's like the TE37 and TE31 and of course the AE85 and AE86, but this car has me seriously considering a Toyota for my next daily and I've been driving Volkswagen for the last 10 years.

You guys did good on it. As far as value and overall enjoyment, my choice of cars were small hatch backs and I decided to go to the civic hatch sport, both for the massive increase in interior room and cargo as well as the stronger engine that is easily modifiable as well. I don't regret it one bit but it is good to see the corolla did so well on the track once you modded it.

Ok, so I have a 2020 SE 6MT and these are my thoughts.
I live in Alaska and drove mine, loaded for bear up the ALCAN in December. I snatched some Blizzaks in Montana and going through BC and The Yukon, they were an absolute necessity on the car but the car performed magnificently. I love the gas mileage, I love the fact that Toyota gave a 6MT and not a 5 and I love the space it has for such a small car on the inside. Toyota definitely sacrificed space for style on this one, but I think it’s ok.
So I came here looking for performance mods and boy does the stock SE need them. Coming through the oil field sections of Alberta (on dirt roads for those of you who’ve never been), trying to pass logging trucks and other large, slow moving vehicles, I experienced a fair amount of clutch fade in the higher RPM bands on 5th and 6th. The clutch is forgiving for a new driver but if you are using the iMT and you try to downshift for some oomph....uh yikes. That is a wonderful segue into: holy fuck why does it spit 2nd gear out often enough to be worried? My vehicle has less than 30K miles on it. I’ve been driving manuals all my life and in just normal, not spirited driving, I’ll shift to second. And that thang is like, “nah honey, not today,” and it will grind and pop back into neutral. In normal driving conditions. The transmission also doesn’t like to go to first if it’s been sitting for a while, like I have to go to 3rd or 4th to get it to actually allow the shifter into first or reverse fairly frequently.
Also, I’m fairly confident that the vehicle could also benefit stiffer engine/transmission mounts. I can’t quantifiable say why? I think that? Maybe it’s a bias, but I feel like it could use them.
Additionally, it feels down on power; which is why I am seeking mods in the first place. With the long gears, I think it needs a little more “oomph”, especially when trying to pass in traffic or for going up snowy hills in winter.
It’s a fun car. As a daily, it does what it needs to do, economically and it’s reliable. It could use some aftermarket love (especially a more aggressive clutch. I’ve heard some horror stories about the stock clutches in these things that would corroborate my statement), but overall it’s a decent machine.

My daily driver is a 16 Prius which is on the same basic platform. When my car geek friends drive it all are amazed at how good it drives. I rented a hatch recently and thought it was fantastic value. I would like to see a SE sedan with the same mods.

I just bought the 2021 corrola hatchback xse and love it. I’m searching for inspiration in moding it out and this takes the cake. I did notice this was posted a year and was hoping you guys could take it a step further in modifications. Would love to see this bad boo modded out and have higher hp. Before I saw this i saw the Rockstar Corrola and that really inspired me to purchase this vehicle.

I like the short, quick build series you did here. That being said I also like the longer builds - ie super car killer m3. You guys are killing it. As for the corolla, I don’t think I would have ever looked at a corolla before this build. Of course TE37’s on anything is BA. The blue and gold really pop and works really well. Just goes to show you that the right wheel/tire package can make or break any car.

I likes this series a lot. But I'm a sucker for the longer in depth stuff. I'll take all of the nitty gritty details that I can get. But I am a mechanical engineer so take that with a grain of salt. I think occasional shorter series like this with cars that people don't always think about, and then longer builds with the more popular and rare/oddball cars would be a good mix if you're just have to do some short builds. But IMO long builds on everything would be a dream. But you guys are awesome and I know I'll watch every video you put out regardless. Keep up the good work

I like this kind of build. It's sort of realistic in a "first car, just got into car culture" way. In fact, my first modified car was an '07 Corolla (eBay intake and a DC Sports strut bar) that I bought new.

Speed Academy you guys nailed it with this build. I saw the Corolla hatch last 2018 on the net while in the Philippines and then finally saw one in person at the 2019 LA Autoshow. I’m not a big Corolla fan at all but seeing how cool this hatchback looks makes me want to get one myself. Unfortunately there are no hatchbacks available in the Philippines just the sedans. But with your build we can actually get a taste of how it would look like with a daily in mind. Thumbs up to Speed Academy! 👍🏼👍🏼

The best looking hatchback out right now, Could you guys go more in depth on the importance of a "performance" oriented alignment versus an alignment you would get from a dealership? I think there is a lot of misconception on these in the lower experienced individuals and not covered enough in my opinion. (unless someone has a good video they would like to recommend me) And these corollas would be a very good baseline.
