Top Tip from a GR Yaris owner. If you put the car in expert mode (Hold the traction button down) it will remove the soft limiter when stationary allowing more revs!
The GR Corolla is living up to the hype and I love seeing Toyota back in the performance car realm. Completely unrelated, I would like to see a modern Evo vs STi shootout on here. An Evo X and an equivalent year/model STi. I know the Evo vs STi horse has been beaten to death, but it never gets old and your builds are always supreme. Keep up the great content!
Got a season of autocross in with my GRC Core w/Performance, and it's been a great car so far. Alignment and tires are all I've done to it, and it rips.
I’m. a Australian gr4 Yaris owner. They are way better at smiles than any other for mine. It’s so interesting to see what you Americans are doing with these sole full cars.
Great video as always guys! If you could in the futur test the endurance, like a 20min lapping session, because many reported overheating problems. Thx!
Its a known issue. The rear diff overheats and the engine oil gets pretty hot considering they are using 0W-20. This is more of a canyon/DD than track weapon. Still glad to see Toyota getting back in the game.
Disconnect the battery, install intake. Reconnect battery. The computer will be in learning mode and adjust air to fuel properly. I had to do that with my Corolla using AEM intake
that new exhaust sounds incredible on track. i am always surprised at how good MBRP exhausts sound, they're priced very well. car looks super capable and composed on track, what a ripper!
I had a 2020 STI which ended in a total loss unfortunately. Really loving what Toyota is doing with the GR division and might hop on a 2024 GR Corolla once the dealerships start getting them in.
Good to see the GR finally on the track. I know Toyota put some of their best tech in the car but I was puzzled by some new fangled oil metering device Dave used before driving. Do you think Toyota will let BMW have this tech as part of their collaboration with the Supra?
Got my ITR shirt featured in this video the other day. Wearing it now :D As for this Corolla GR. Yeah, fantastic cars. But the same can be said about the base Corolla hatchback now. The TNGA-C suspension is crazy solid. There's a monster hiding in that chassis, and I always thought it was a better 86 than the GT/GR/FRS/BRZ 86. The real problem with the non-GR Corolla is the lack of low end torque. But once you open up the airbox with a TRD box, and get rid of the massive downstep in the exhaust right before the axle back flange, the M20A really does come to life after about 4500RPM and loves the high rev range. I did RS*R coilovers, sticky Falken RT's on a 17" RPF1, progress rear sway bar, previous gen corolla front endlinks (slightly shorter), TRD air box, and a Toms Racing front chassis brace. Pure backroading bliss and still capable of 40mpg under normal driving. I think the really only weak point in these cars are the manual trans. Don't think Toyota expected people to beat on these cars too hard. lol But I am sure the GR trans is MUCH better than a base trans.
Not every aftermarket intake throws the CEL. I have the Forge unit coming for my Circuit which just replaces the upper of the box and you can get a larger snorkel.
Did you receive the Forge unit yet? Please let me know how it’s working for you. Interested in maybe getting one but want to know about any CEL issues. It’s saying no CEL issue online.
@@JG-mg3if It's a Christmas present, so I'll get it Monday. The Forge unit only replaces the upper box and intake pipe though which gives a higher flow filter and less turbulent intake air flow. Not messing with anything in the lower box will keep the CEL issues and that's why the Forge option doesn't cause them.
@@usergrade7812 Thanks, if it’s not to much trouble keep us posted. I’m interested in adding the forge intake. Also trying to find info in regards to the forge turbo inlets.
So glad to see you guys get this rare and awesome hot hatch. The GRC would be better daily than my BRZ for Seattle commuting, so this gave me a smidgeon of buyer’s remorse.
Perfect upgrades, the car looks and sounds amazing. The only extra thing I would have done is to wrap the block-off plates for the side exhaist tips in gloss black to make it blend perfectly with the rear diffuser, still, such an upgrade over the stock exhaust.
Love you guys. Keep up the great work. You are literally the best channel I watch. I look forward to you guys over Adam Lz…jimmy oaks….gears and gasoline. They are great, but you guys just top them.
The GRY/GRC is the best "stock" car I've ever owned (comparing to Focus RS, Evo X, Evo 8 & 200SX S15). Evo's are still best when it comes to modification though, by far!
Single exit exhaust is a mean-looking addition. My only issue with it (and also mine on 86) - the cavity created behind the bumper (under the trunk floor) is massive and acts like a catch for all debris on the road. I had an incident I drove over a dead possum, and it caught on the edge of the rear bumper almost ripping it off. Maybe try to come up with a thin, aluminum plate connecting the bottom edge of the bumper with the subframe?
So glad to hear a modern car can feel analog and soulful i had lost hope in modern vehicles. Amazing video as always, should have had a pedal box cam so we could see daves clutch foot having a spaz trying not to rev match
Got a Circuit Edition and I have put in the Eventuri intake without issue. most of the issues have been worked out by GR Yaris owner overseas. Need to solve the overheating issue of the limited slip diff which GR Yaris has a workaround solution.
Most likely than not, the CEL from an aftermarket intake is an emissions code. The new mustang GT does the same thing, when you remove the carbon traps, the car sees a slight HP bump but you get a CEL even if there are no intake leaks shown by STFT and LTFT being spot on. All it is, is the ECU looks for a certain amount of airflow for a given throttle input and if it sees more than what it should see, the ECU throws a CEL because it thinks/knows you removed the carbon traps. Ford does it in a real sneaky way btw, the gen4 coyote in the mustang if I'm not mistaken, adjusts fueling via a MAP sensor now, and yet you see two throttle bodies dumping into a single plenum (that's suspicious and not at all for performance), then you see one intake tube per TB and a MAF sensor on each intake. Again, a MAP based engine with MAF sensors. Why use a redundant way of fueling a car like that if it wasn't to "snitch" that you changed the airflow in to he engine. It's a real shame that we can't even change an intake on these newer cars for power. Now, we're going to be changing intakes for looks and not in hopes of power.
Nice exhaust choice.. that would be my pick too - would be good to include weight savings with that kind of thing given little to no HP improvment. Wheels look great too, though I suspect RFP1 would be lighter (I'd go 17" too for the mass reduction). Surprised you went with stock tire size on such wide wheels. I'd have increased the fronts at least to 265 maybe.
Have you guys thought of adding OBD2 info/telemetry to your track videos? It make take a bit more work to overlay the info (RPM, Speed, boost, TPS, coolant/oil temps, braking, ABS engagement, etc), but I tend to be way more engaged in track videos when I can see more detail of what's going on compared to commentary only.
I agree on the look of the exhaust, I like the middle but the side ones are a little small for my taste. Probably still keep mine stock as u like it more than dislike. But if I was tjj in change it it would be for the Apexi N1 .
I wish we got the Yaris version. They had them in Germany when I was stationed there. I wish I could have test driven one but they were not common during the pandemic
Should have done a before and after track video to see what mods improved anything or a waste. I'm willing to bet there wouldn't be any lap time improvement mod vs stock. The wrap looks great and takes the headache out of maintaining the matte paint.
I'm surprised you guys didn't throw some heat wrap around the exhaust when switching it out, many people have reported overheated rear clutch packs at the track
Wow that back area where the exhaust sits is a MASSIVE open area all to be trapped by that low hanging rear pumper. Shame Toyota didn't properly vent that... You could cut that entire "diffuser" out and reduce rear end lift and drag dramatically.
Toyota did an excellent job on all points but you do bring up a valid point for anyone doing mods. Switching to this type of exhaust that eliminates the 2 outer pipes and placing those inserts will significantly increase drag. That entire diffuser as someone elsewhere commented has now become a parachute with all those hollow openings even at the center with the smaller muffler. There is also good reason why Toyota chose not to put the Circuit edition Spoiler on the Morizo, it affects straight line stability and I can imagine with this specific Morizo they have compromised the front end bite by adding the wing. In the Circuit edition Toyota made clever subtle changes to the front end to reduce the impact of increased downforce created by the spoiler. This is a car right out of the box was designed as a sports car and no resources were spared at Toyota. Unfortunately without giving deliberate thought plenty owners are undoing the seamless engineering of the car with some of these aftermarket mods
That exhaust is a huge visual upgrade. I really dislike the stock exhaust look on these. I would spray the side exit blockoff plates gloss black so they match the diffuser. Maybe also push the tips in a little more if you can too.
The gloss PPF makes this, the hands down, the best color. Loving the oem+ mods. What are your alignment settings? How were the engine oil temp? Oil temp sensor could be sitting in the oil pan so maybe thats why theyre so high even when its cool out and water never tops 210F
Great lap! Love the set-up you guys have. Inspired me to install the MBRP exhaust on my GR Corolla Circuit Edition....what tire pressure where you guys running at TMP??
The air intake thing sounds like what us Subaru Guys deal with, our cars do all sorts of weird things with cold air intakes because the calibration on the car expects to see specific things and when a cold air intake is thrown on it changes a bunch of things and throws off all the readings. Expect this intake issue only be resolved when that ECU gets cracked and tuners can make calibrations for the different brands of intakes on the market.
Yeah, that's what I was thinking. I think it's been fairly well documented that at least in modern cars, after-market intakes, at best, don't improve on the factory performance of a vehicle, and at worst, well, they make them worse. In part because the ECUs are pretty smart and keep a car operating within specs no matter what kind of plumbing changes you make. Or at least, that's my understanding of it.
Is the CEL also on the aftermarket intake piece that connects the lower flap on the box to actual cold air? Savage geese mentioned they had this piece on their car to mitigate intake air temps
In this case, I think the suspension plays the biggest role on the driveability. I would bet the stock suspension would really hinder overall performance. (the right exhaust tip is sticking out more than the left)

That exhaust is a huge improvement, especially in the looks department. What a nice kit.
Almost made enough space for a spare tire too. LoL !!!

I’ve had mine for 10 months now and absolutely love it
MBRP needs to offer a gloss black option for the blanking plates
Thought the exact same thing
Got a season of autocross in with my GRC Core w/Performance, and it's been a great car so far. Alignment and tires are all I've done to it, and it rips.
I can genuinely say the gr corolla is one of the only cars id be ok with leaving stock
I have a 2024 Premium, and man I want those Conti ExtremeContact Forces, but they dont come in the stock 235's

Tastefully modded and great video as always guys.

that new exhaust sounds incredible on track. i am always surprised at how good MBRP exhausts sound, they're priced very well. car looks super capable and composed on track, what a ripper!
what about the rear diff overheating?
Or the clutch to the diff?
Not gonna crop up on a chilly Canadian day on an 8/10 run. More of an issue going balls out on warmer days.
You guys saw that video too huh
@@arturo762 I don't know about a video, but I have a GR Corolla and it's a known issue with heavy track use.
Good thing most of you will never drive your car hard enough for it to matter.
Those wheels really suit the car.

Siick. I love this car. Coming from a Honda nerd that bought a 2010 4runner, my love for Toyota has only been growing.
I had a 2020 STI which ended in a total loss unfortunately. Really loving what Toyota is doing with the GR division and might hop on a 2024 GR Corolla once the dealerships start getting them in.
They have them, I’ve had mine 2024 core PP for almost a month. Do it !!! The car really is amazing.
When I heard the plan for the exhaust, I was like its a mistake, but when I saw the results I was shocked. It looks 10 times better now
Good to see the GR finally on the track. I know Toyota put some of their best tech in the car but I was puzzled by some new fangled oil metering device Dave used before driving. Do you think Toyota will let BMW have this tech as part of their collaboration with the Supra?

stick a roll bar in the rear, and the build is done!
Waiting for the intake and track laps across america!
factory intakes are always the best😂😂 we can’t question engineers
I like the looks of the exhaust (original setup is questionable tbh) and the spoiler. Not sure about the rims. I’d prefer the stock ones.
