Hero Quest Painting Guide Ep.55 Skeleton Archer (Radioactive Bones?!)

- Next up in our Hero Quest Against the Ogre Horde painting series, we're taking a look at another of the new archer variants, the Skeleton Archer. With a relatively good new sculpt we'll try to take inspiration from the conflicting concept/card art and make something cool that still matches the vibes of the skeletal warriors we did before. Not only that, we're going to try something new by giving this boney boi a radioactive glowey bone look, kind of like Skeletor! NYYRAAAAGH!

I really liked the green glow on the skeleton and will try it on my next skeleton!
I also really liked how you did the unboxing before painting. It makes it easyer to look forward to your next minis! Hope you will do this for your next box!
As always, great video!
I really like this color variation, especially how you painted the bones on this model. Helps me get an idea how to approach it when I paint my models.
The glow effect looks fire!
@@lessthanpopi Thanks! I probably could have stopped at just the whitest highlight, but I kept thinking of skeleton and he has some yellow up inside his bones ;p
Love the “green skeleton” as a special baddie. The “normal skeleton” is what I’d want for my rank and file.
Thanks for showing the “overdoing it and washing” after too much dry brush. I watch the Artis Opus guy and am like… I don’t know what you are doing, but that’s not human level performance. My dry brushing is way more pedestrian!
haha thanks! Artis Opus has mucho patience and skill, I think that's what separates him from the animals lolol
I just used this method for one of the mythic tier skeletons! Looks great!!
@@davidmorris6707 awesome haha glad to hear! I kinda wish I'd done one this way myself ;)
I can't say I am a fan of the green skeleton, but it does make the glowing eyes/mouth pop more. Having "normal" bone colour skeleton, I don't think the glowing eyes/mouth would look as good. But anyway, always fun to experiment and try new stuff, you never know how something will look unless you try it out.
@@Logaan777 Haha thanks! You're right, it never hurts to experiment, especially when you got a bunch of the same thing haha. Hopefully the next one is more your style :)
I like the rust effect on the head gear, but i am not the biggest fan of the new skeletons design in general.
After the summer i am looking forward to start painting again, its been almost 30 years since I did it.
So I’m curious is I can still do it. Also I have War for Arrakis, but I probably start with Heroquest.
@@zeeuwlander yeah honestly I wish they'd stick more closely to their concept art. I think it would have made for a better design.
Another awesome vid!
I want to try out some contrast paints (currently using army painter speed paints 1.0).
Could you please recommend 5-10 contrast paints you'd recommend / use the most. For example basilicanum grey/ guillimun flesh. Thanks.
@@N00b_Bot sure haha!
- Snakebite Leather
- Gulliman Flesh
- Black Templar
- Skeleton Horde
- Orc Flesh
- Wildwood
- Basilicanum Grey
- Blood Angels Red
- Iyanden Yellow
- Ultramarines Blue
These are all pretty common paints for me to use in almost every mini I paint, or covers a lot of use case scenarios heheh.
@@notyourmothershobbies thanks for the quick response, nice one!
A bit too much Ryza, it can really over power the areas and make it look like it's a mucky brown piece of clothing rather than metal or in this case, chain. I'd try and sponge a bit of metal on to break it up ☺️ loving the work so far, helped me no end to complete my sets quickly and painlessly
@@aaronemerson7079 great suggestion! Yeah I usually get some more more more defined orange speckles and hot spots as well, but going back with some sponged metal would definitely sell the metal more.
Hi, for the marveling at your painting skill. Very nice! Since you may be coming to a stall on HeroQuest soon, do you think you will acquire and tackle Avalon Hill’s Talisman 5e minis?
Oopsie! That first sentence was garbage. I meant to say that I have been marveling at your painting skill for the last few months. Stoopid TBI. 😅 Question remains the same.
@@Sup3rPrun3 Thank you thank you! I do not own a copy of Talisman 5th edition at the moment, so unfortunately that won't be coming next. There's plenty of other games in my lineup though, and I'll be asking the community what to do next :)
@@notyourmothershobbies I pre-ordered, and it was delivered today. My first Talisman BTW. The minis match in style and size to the HQ minis. Thus the source of my question. I am already contemplating how to port the characters to HQ and I am anticipating adapting HQ characters over to Talisman once I learn the game. 😀
Still, I look forward to seeing what is up next whatever the project.
