That all depends on when you bought your copy of the game. Some of the furnishings used to be folded cardboard stuffed into plastic end pieces. Of course, saying that it meant they were already detailed with printed artwork and not needing paint.

I received the original for Christmas when I was about 8yrs old and unfortunately none of my friends at the time or my sisters were really into that sort of thing. I played with the miniatures like most 8yr olds would, inventing my own games. Now I’m 41 and although I never got to actully experience Hero Quest as it was intended, it has always held a place in my heart. I really enjoyed watching you painting these miniatures, hopefully once my son is a little older (5yrs old right now) I can buy it again and introduce him to it.

Hi Guy, I love this series and this episode. Thanks for doing it! I discovered HeroQuest in primary school playing it with my best mate back then in France and still remember it to this day. I was amazed by the minis that his dad painted for him, they looked amazing and this was so much fun to play. Now Down Under, on my 40th birthday I pre-ordered the new Heroquest box (I missed out on the Kickstarter sadly) wanting to paint the minis with my son and play games with him. My 8 yr old son loved to take the pieces out of the box and place them randomly on the board, pretending to be a game master and us rolling dices for fun. We initially painted the few dread warriors together. But then, I did not manage to paint much more in the past year sadly. This video has made me realise how I overcomplicated painting the minis for myself and my son. I'm now excited to paint all of the minis with my 8yr old son and my 4yr old daughter in short and fun sessions in the upcoming weekends. Your techniques will be perfect, especially like mixing the colours and then spreading randomly green on the primed minis will be fun for the kids! And yes, super cute and awesome to see little hands at the end, 100% sounds like what my daughter will do :D. Thank you! Can't wait for the next videos (eg monsters, heroes and storage!). Thanks

8:08 - You can totally do a dry brush over metallics, especially on beaten up old furniture. It'll add scratches and scuffed look to the metals. I normally do a very light dry brush after a wash. I mean a VERY LIGHT, barely anything on your brush, dry brush. You can barely see it if you do it right. Like, clean off your brush and keep cleaning it off until it's just adding a tiny bit of colour. Especially good to do this over blacks with a dark grey-tan. It'll just add an almost invisible highlight without ruining the black.

Probably the kind of thing where everything but the heroes and bosses I should probably just keep it simple with a base/wash/drybush and pick out just a couple things and fight the urge to go serious mode.

Heroquest was my introduction to fantasy tabletop gaming. I ended up buying two copies as my first one was broken by my brother. The second time I purchased all of the expansions as well. It cost me $140 Australian all up. Unfortunately, my friends brother broke the pieces in my second one because he would sneakily drag it out of my room when I wasn’t there. At that point I had enough and just gave him the rest of it. I really regret that though as today it would fetch a pretty dollar. I think I may have to start collecting it again as they have made even more expansions now. But that will have to wait until I’ve painted my Bardsung, Cursed City, Silver Tower and Blackstone Fortress models. My pile of shame never ends.

I feel like raising a very minor point, if you are adding moisture to the brush for drybrushing and then using absorbent tissue to wipe off the paint then you are basically wicking off the moisture you just added. You’re better removing the paint off the drybrush by brushing it onto a dry, textured surface. Otherwise this is a great beginners guide, fantastic results with very accessible methods.
