    The end climax is genius. The crescendo into above emulates Ariel's desire to leave the bottom of the sea and swim up above the surface (rising). The choice to feature a descending vocal riff on the "wish I could be" is Ariel coming back down to reality.

    • @nut4ku
      @nut4ku ปีที่แล้ว

      @@libras_groove bruh i dont know what are you talking about. The Little Mermaid remake has made $544.1 million at the current worldwide box. For a film with a budget of $250 million and $140 million in global marketing spend, The Little Mermaid hasn't earned back nearly as much as other Disney live actions, such as The Lion King and Aladdin. As you can probably tell from these numbers, The Little Mermaid's revenue has been unusually skewed. The Little Mermaid, initially expected to make $800m-$1B, then downgraded to make between $600m-$750m after it's first showings. It's bombing and Disney will lose millions $$$ because of it. Not counting the costs for marketing, which are likely in the millions. Some outlets have indicated it would need closer to $750 million, given the marketing budget. It seems the movies only do well in the domestic box office. This film experienced a big flop at the overseas box office especially in China. The Little Mermaid's live-action remake has had a pretty disappointing box office return, with it destroying Disney's $1 billion box office trend, causing many to wonder if Disney's live-action remakes will ever be able to recover. I'm not sure people will come to theater to watch that movie again. Other live action movies also seem to fail like Pinocchio, Mulan, Peter Pan & Wendy. The only one that is the best and most works is Cinderella (although the the little mermaid are just slightly more profitable than cinderella but it's still a success if you compared to its budget and also success is not always seen from how much the profit).
      Also the rating in IMDb and Rotten Tomatoes is very low even if you compared it with the original. Only 52% from google users like this film. The og is the first movie that Howard and Alan worked on together, creating a new broadway musical element that has raised disney from their downfall for a long decades or known as Bronze Age or Dark Age of Disney and made a huge profit also became the pioneering film of the Renaissance Era of Disney. Disney historian or disney nerd would never forget the og. You know what makes this live action remake profitable is because they take advantage of the nostalgia bait from the fans. If the og is not very successful before then I'm sure the remake will lose much more. But actually the only problem from this live action is not just about the race. They're lack of creativity to make a story or even just improve the story. Did you know that some changes from this movie is to campaining about culture, modern society, racism, pro feminism, anti male, culture inaccuracies, girlboss and sexism? I'm not bragging and this is a fact. Dont take me wrong, I love disney but they keep dissapointed their fans by their wokeness. You just need to view all reviews about this movie in youtube than you could understand

It's like Whitney Houston doing Dolly Parton's "I Will Always Love You." We respect the original and the o.g. who sang it first, however it's become a new classic onto itself. Jody should be proud because Halle loved her so much as the voice of Ariel in the animated version. Love it!

Thank you for that! If I am with someone in person, I can use my other senses in conjunction with my hearing to quite easily feel and hear the things you need to as a vocal coach, but when I am not in someone's presence it can be difficult for me. That's why I only teach lessons in person and I teach my students to sing from a multi-sensory, full-body perspective. It's worked out great for me and my students thus far! I totally agree that the changes she made to the melody were well done. I've heard people complain that it's just unnecessary high notes and the song is not meant to be a power ballad, but I don't think it felt unnecessary at all. Like you said, it wasn't too much, it wasn't like she riffed all over it.

    I LOVE the original and had the VHS on repeat as a kid daily, I thought I wouldn't like her version... now I can't listen to the original anymore without feeling it's dated and not as good, she is genuinely remarkable.

    I too, would have widened the vowel on the word “above“, but at the same time I love the way she was able to do it and keep it that very vertical shape. It seemed to really work for her, so why change it?

    • @maniimanii9164
      @maniimanii9164 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      I feel like Halle may have intentionally sung it the way she did to emphasize how trapped Ariel feels. And in terms of the vertical shape you were talking about I also think that it works well in the actual scene considering she's swimming and reaching straight up desperately wanting to be above the water ☺️

    • @celinel.844
      @celinel.844 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I also think since the above ends on a D5 and the reprise climax is also on a D5 going for a mix here and keeping the belt for the reprise and holding it longer serves to show Halle’s different colors in terms of vocals and still make the reprise’s climax impressive even when it’s the same nite.

    I feel like that riff brought some soul to the song and her character. I think I saw an interview (I may be wrong) where she said she ad-libbed that part into her audition and maybe felt soulful. They wanted to keep it in. It also speaks to her style as an artist as both she and her sister often ad-lib and change harmonies and arrangements in their live performances.
