They went with the ginger color for her hair because it suited her skin tone the best, and what I really love is that it's a darker ginger underwater because it's soaking wet, like real hair. When she's on land, her hair is a much brighter, lighter ginger that's more obviously a redhead because it's dry!
That's because they only wanted "realistic" colors and this one was the best for Halle. But if they tried to go for more fantastical colors, there would've been so many to choose from that would've been perfect for her and still look accurate to the animated version. But the director's need for everything to look "realistic" does not allow it.
@@abbeyBominable123 Not exactly. It wasn't solely that they were aiming for realism per se, because they tried many different colors and styles on her: darker more auburn red, the fire truck animated-accurate red, a copper-ish red/ginger color, a wig with all loose hair (as in non-dreadlocked) with her real hair hidden underneath etc. and they tried multiple options in both irl screen tests & in cgi screen tests with her mermaid body, but the team working on her hair as well as the director decided having a mix of loose hair with her natural dreadlocks as well as a warm natural ginger/red color looked best on her as well as within the world & tone of the movie. Which makes sense because natural Black gingers irl do look similar to how Halle looked, so I understand why they decided that of all the hues/colors they tested & tried that that color specifically was the most fitting on her complexion. It's not too harsh or gaudy, or even distracting, and it wouldn't wash her out or make her not seem soft & innocent enough. Like when I think of that bright tomato red irl I think of Rihanna in her edgy era in the early 2010's, which doesn't scream young, innocent princesses, but you may disagree idk. Plus, they were looking out for the health of Halle's hair in terms of having to dye it for the land scenes, which can be very damaging especially with certain colors...even more especially when she had all-day shoots in the salty water of the ocean, which can really obliterate dyed hair of any color. But think Ariana's hair after Victorious and how it had gotten absolutely destroyed from the bright red they were dying it & how long it took her to recover from that, like literal years, where she was stuck wearing extensions & fake ponytails and rarely wearing her real hair out because it was so shattered, short & broken. I think it's fair to want a different color for Halle's Ariel or to wish it was closer to the original, but, personally, it really doesn't bother me even if I didn't know the full backstory of what they went through to choose the color they chose. As long as she wasn't out here looking crazy lol because that happens often in Hollywood because a lot of stylists don't know how to do Black hair and it either ends up damaged or looking bad OR the actress has to do it herself. I've heard that story so many times of actresses (on Disney channel, the CW, Nickelodeon, Netflix etc.) on set doing their own hair or if they're a kid their mom doing their hair because no one else knew what they were doing. But in this case they specifically got a Black stylist who knew how to handle, work with, and take care of Halle's natural hair.
@@eternityriley1833 yeah... they still chose the realistic look. A bright red hair would look out of place in the movie's aesthetic, that's why the movie's aesthetic should've been more fantastical. Chloe, Halle's sister, has worn red hair and that looked good with her skin. It would've looked so good on Halle as well. Or they could've went with something like Starfire in season 2 of Titans, where dark hair transitions into a bright color and it looked great.
@@abbeyBominable123 they did try the Starfire things. I haven't seen the show, but based off of your description, they tested the ombre look going from dark to light as well. There are images of it floating around. The red Chloe had could work practically with her skintone, but I don't think it equally conveys the youthfulness & innocence the same. Especially when I think about it being on Chloe after she had the blonde era as well as with her music the vibe was very sexy, womanly, mysterious & grown. Like literally when I think of most anyone irl who's had a bright red hair moment they don't give off youthful, free, innocent, naive etc. but they also weren't trying to which was the point I think. Honestly, every single criticism of Hallee goes out the window when you watch this version of Little Mermaid. The way she was still able to be so captivating without a voice and carry so much emotion, truly shows why they chose her. I sat in the theatre and watched too many women cry at her version of Part of Your World. Also, I agree we def needed her hair to be more red, even a shade darker wouldve worked perfectly. I WILL say it lands more when shes on land
So basically the make up artists decided on a ginger color for her hair because it suited her skin tone much better than a deep saturated red, which I agree with because people have photoshopped a darker red on her online and this looks so much better imo. Maybe it’s the way it looks edited but the saturated red low key looks fake or like a wig, the ginger just suits her far better.
Which is a perfect argument for leaving Ariel as the accurate skin tone for that character. If that is going to be a legit argument then case closed. Otherwise we can just go with "magical fish people aren't real therefore crank the red hair cause 'natural' doesn't apply here to a fantasy world"

I don’t know why there are complaints about this live action, it was honestly my favourite. It only changed the story in little ways that really helped the story along and made it better (in my opinion) - specifically Ariel and Eric’s relationship. And I love Eric’s song in it.
She gave me chills. A lot of people are saying she butchered it and ruined the nostalgia, but I felt nostalgia while also feeling happy to hear new tones to the song. Her performance was magical imo.

her hair style is called locs and they actually incorporated some straight hair to give different texture. and they had to wrap her hair everytime 😭 love her sm
Someone said that Halle is this generations Ariel, and that made me cry in the best way possible. I am honored to have had Jodi as my Ariel and ridiculously excited that when/if I have kids Halle will be theirs.
I got my name from The Little Mermaid, and I get GOOSEBUMPS every single time I hear Halle sing Part of Your World. That movie is SO GOOD and I love the way they gave Eric more character and really developed their love so beautifully!
When I watched this movie, I was a bit skeptical along with my mom, but we ended up loving it so much! The actors killed it with their vocals! Does it beat the original, no it does not, but it was pretty fun to watch.
To me it’s much better than the original. Like objectively, it’s much better. They added more to the story, Eric is likeable, Ariel is also more likeable and Sebastian is too. The songs have more life and sound more special.
@@sashav.3189 Couldn't agree more. I never watched the original so the day before I went to see the live action I gave it a try and man, I was so disapointed. The only likeable characters in the animation was Sebastian and Ursula, the movie flew by and in the end I felt nothing. This newer one OMG i got so deepend invested, the songs are better, the romance is so much more developed, the new ending... I cried like a child.

@LuizAugusto-st3bb I grew up watching the original, but it is overrated. I wasn't looking forward to the remake because I've gotten sick of these live action cashgrabs, but I finally watched the 2023 version a few days ago and now I'm mad that I didn't see it in theaters 😭 I'm in love with it
The little mermaid was my childhood too, and so watching this movie just gave me CHILLS. I sobbed. 😂 I have my little gripes too, like with flounder/Sebastian’s look and her hair not being as red, but in the theaters all I could think of was baby me watching this too. 😭💕
I watched this in the theatres and when Halle sang part of your world I got literal chills and I started crying. She's incredible and with the cinema's speakers it just made it even better.
I sobbed during "Part of Your World" 🥲 and the whole movie tbh. As a ginger born in the 90s, 'The Little Mermaid' was everything to me, and getting to see it on the big screen after all these years was so special. And also as a ginger my only gripe was wishing her hair was more red hahah, though I do think the shade looks so natural and good on her, I get why they picked that color.
I think you'll personally enjoy the movie as I did as I saw the moive 4 times already. Reason why: Jonah Hauer King. Also his song Wild Uncharted Waters is so good. I love him.
In defense of Sebastian; I figured they would make him realistic and i HATE crabs. I've seen quite a few IRL so I was dreading their interpretation. Not only did I not hate his design, he's soooo much funnier in this version! And the red in Ariel's hair pops better when she's human and it's dry :)
watching this in the cinema sent me over the edge, I was a wreck. my mum cried too. it meant so much to me to see her sing my favourite Disney song from my favourite Disney princess. ❤
This is the only movie I've gone to see in theaters twice and it was definitely worth it. Absolutely my favorite Disney live-action so far. Thanks for this reaction, it was very fun and entertaining to watch. I hope you'll at some point react to "For The First Time" as well, it is my current favorite. Such a wonderful addition, in my opinion.
Same I’ve gone to see it twice as well and I loved just as much as when I watched it the first time Halle Bailey was AMAZING as Ariel and I loved this movie more than the original movie ❤️❤️❤️❤️
I saw this movie three times in the theaters. A rarity in my mind. I just loved this movie that much. Part of your world made me cry every time. Halle Bailey is a really good. Plus I do like the new version of Under the Sea. Halle’s little bits of singing is actually a great addition. I can’t wait for you to see the whole movie. It’s finally digital! Just not on Disney plus or dvd yet.
Im excited for you to see her in the land scenes. Her hair underwater is CGI (because mermaid movement), but when she gets legs, they have her in literally the most gorgeous strawberry blonde/copper color locks Ive ever seen. She looks like a sunset, and its just SO pretty. Also, Sebastian will grow on you. They actually did a much MUCH better job animating the animals in this one than they did with lion king. They're much more expressive. Also, Eric's new song is good! Wish they had used a little less of that Glee-flavored autotune, but he does a good job, and I think its an improvement over "Her Voice" from the Broadway show. Just.... Excited for you to see it in general. It got sidelined from all the negative internet drama, and its totally unfair. Its one of, if not THE best of the Disney remakes.
Tbh, I didn’t cry in the theaters during this song, but I was mesmerised by her voice, but now rewatching it with Hannah is so different, like I was so focused I realised at 6:09 after her beautiful note that I was starting to cry, oh my lord 😭
I remember when I took my son to the cinema (he was 5)and when she finished singing “part of your world” I asked him if he liked it and with teary eyes he told me “yes but why do I feel like crying?!” I think it was the first time ever he felt touched by a song and couldn’t understand it… he was happy but felt the tears.. it was such a sweet moment!! 🥰
It's been so long since I've sat down to watch a vocal coach reacts (I've mostly been watching Hannah's non-vocal videos such as her book reviews). I've been watching Hannah for YEARS but haven't been able to sing in over ten months due to a worsening vocal condition I have. It's bittersweet looking back at these vocal communities I used to be a part of knowing I might never sing again, but regardless of my current situation you and your lovely community deserve all the love and support there is so I'm watching yet again. So glad to be back!
The first time I heard Halle sing Part of Your World I just burst into tears, she is so ethereal and talented. I'm so glad she was chosen as Ariel, she's pure magic 🥺💖 Btw, Jonah Hauer-King as prince Eric was SO AMAZING, we totally need your reaction to his song!!
love this! Halle was soooo good as Ariel I cried pls react to Poor Unfortunate Souls, Wild Uncharted Waters and For The First time (the new songs) as well as the reprises of Part of Your World! They're all so good i was very pleasantly surprised!!
Halle is stunning and she sings like a goddess! I'm 33 and I think I cried through most of the movie in theater. Ariel is also my favorite princess and this gave me such nostalgia but also her singing took it to a higher level. I'm getting teary eyed just from watching this now. It just makes me so happy. And I might have a crush on Halle's Ariel, she is perfect and definitely my Ariel.
I like how they used more unknown sea creatures in UTS instead of just fish and dolphins. Also I wasn’t expecting the realistic animals, but I didn’t mind them when watching. You should react to Vanessa’s song, poor unfortunate souls, and Wild uncharted waters. The latter is a Lin Miranda original. It’s an amazing song but I’m interested in your opinion of it because another vocal coach said it was too auto tuned sounding. I’m curious to see the comparison.
I would watch this movie ten times in the cinema JUST to hear the full glory of Halle's voice through the cinematic sound system. I've already gone twice and I cannot get enough. It's the first time a film has made me so smitten with someone's voice and acting.
I genuinely loved Halle’s part of your world, she really made the song her own. My only gripe was at the end she extended the line “part of that” and didn’t leave time for the pause to transition to “world.” So it felt rushed. But other than that it was so beautiful. I love the sad reprise she has of it near the end as well. 6:48
If you do decide to react to more songs from The Little Mermaid, PLEASE react the Vanessa’s Trick!! Halle’s vocals are absolutely INSANE. I don’t wanna say too much but I’ve been listening to it non-stop since seeing the movie I’m OBSESSED 🥰!
I grew up on the original animated movie, and I I love this version even more, it is just so much more emotionally impactful, and Halle's singing and acting is perfection. And she just looks like a mermaid princess. I actually think the shade of red they chose for her hair was perfect too, if they made it more like the cartoon, I feel like it would've looked clownish. I really don't have any issues with this movie at all except that I thought some of the new songs like Eric's song was a bit boring. I actually thought Flounder was adorable, all the voice actors were great. I can't even imagine all the work Halle had to put into this as her first acting role and having to film in the air in a harness, swimming, and then also not using her voice for a good portion of the movie. She really deserves an award for this performance.
Eric & Scuttle both have songs in this new movie! Scuttle's is more of a joke song I think considering she's played by Akwafina but I would love to see your reaction to "Wild Uncharted Waters" and "The Scuttlebutt"
Hannah I just wanna say thank you - your genuine awe brought out my own. I’ve seen this movie twice now in theaters and my inner critic is trying to drown out my inner child but this video helped with that ❤ I love little mermaid so much my whole life and Hallie was the spirit of Ariel 💯
when i saw it in theaters on opening day, i walked into there knowing halle's version front to back because it dropped days before and i was still bawling seeing it on screen. it's so incredibly beautiful i get chills every time
food for thought! when she sings mooOOOOooOOOOoorrree and she goes from chest to head voice...I think that method of singing emphasizes her youth which is really important to the story and her wanting literally more in life (coming of age trope!) It kind of sounds like her voice is cracking which reminds the audience she's still a young teen who is full of dreams but not experience.
Begging for a part 2 where you watch Poor Unfortunate Souls. I'd love to hear what you have to say about Melissa McCarthy. She does a pretty damn good job in my opinion.
The Jodi Benson version was the first Disney princess movie I saw in the theater at 7. I wore out the VHS tape memorizing Part of Your World, and couldn’t stand the soundtrack cassette because it was a little different 😆 Still one of my favorites to sing in the shower. It wasn’t until TH-cam came along that I realized how much that movie meant to so many other girls. It’s amazing how Halle made this her own. Like Jodi, they both have that shimmery vibrato that works so well for an underwater theme ❤
They actually talked about the hair and her skin tone and how the hair stylist was wanting to make sure it complimented her skin instead of washing her out like apparently it looked when they changed it to a more vibrant red.

You should definitely react to Melissa's McCarthy's performance of Poor Unfortunate Souls, she KILLS IT! I like it more than the original tbh, and I really like that version too.
THE PURE TERROR IN HANNAH’S VOICE WHEN SHE SAW FLOUNDER HAS ME SCREAMMMMING 😭😭😭😂😂😂😂😂😂MY STOMACH HURTS
her hair style is called locs and they actually incorporated some straight hair to give different texture. and they had to wrap her hair everytime 😭 love her sm
It does best the original. That's nostalgia talking
@@sashav.3189love every character and joke. It's seriously very well done. I have no complaints. Or maybe some but it's nothing to do with them. It's great every. Just saw barbie and is trash seriously don't understand how people hate so much this and that poor job of a movie barbie is so we'll received the movie is bad😂
@LuizAugusto-st3bb I grew up watching the original, but it is overrated. I wasn't looking forward to the remake because I've gotten sick of these live action cashgrabs, but I finally watched the 2023 version a few days ago and now I'm mad that I didn't see it in theaters 😭 I'm in love with it
You should watch her live performance of POYW at Disney World, it was stellar.
*land. Disneyland. But yes that performance was amazinggggggg.
She has a phenomenal voice.
People were judging the trailer saying that there was no color, when in fact the “Under The Sea” scene was SO COLORFUL
The little mermaid was my childhood too, and so watching this movie just gave me CHILLS. I sobbed. 😂 I have my little gripes too, like with flounder/Sebastian’s look and her hair not being as red, but in the theaters all I could think of was baby me watching this too. 😭💕
You definitely have to react to Melissa McCarthy singing poor unfortunate souls, she NAILED it. You won’t be diss appointed
I watched this in the theatres and when Halle sang part of your world I got literal chills and I started crying. She's incredible and with the cinema's speakers it just made it even better.
She's *the* Ariel we needed, hands down. And Melissa McCarthy is the Ursula we wanted. Check her "Poor Unfortunate Souls." It's really amazing, too.
I was not prepared for how quickly I teared up watching this!! Oh my gosh!! I may need to get to the theater to see this…pronto!! ❤
Hannah you would be the perfect Ariel! Ik you said you played her when you were younger, but I’d love to hear you sing some of her songs!! Love you!
I love him.
I freaking love Daveed Diggs as Sebastian! That is just great casting right there! 👍🦀
When she reaches out towards the surface literally. Gave me shivers
watching this in the cinema sent me over the edge, I was a wreck. my mum cried too. it meant so much to me to see her sing my favourite Disney song from my favourite Disney princess.
I could not agree more when you said “ahhh I’m feeling a lot of thing right now” haha, Halle’s voice is so gorgeous!!
To me, the most important part of Ariel was always her voice. That's the whole plot point of the movie. Halle has the voice, she was Ariel.
Tbh, I didn’t cry in the theaters during this song, but I was mesmerised by her voice, but now rewatching it with Hannah is so different, like I was so focused I realised at 6:09 after her beautiful note that I was starting to cry, oh my lord 😭
She was the perfect casting , she’s magical and stole my heart
Vanessa’s trick is so mesmerizing, Halle did such a phenomenal job!!!
I literally STILL CRY when I hear this song IT'S SO GORGEOUS HALLE IS AMAZING
I’ve missed these kind of reactions. So informative and joyful. Thank you for coming back ❤
I remember when I took my son to the cinema (he was 5)and when she finished singing “part of your world” I asked him if he liked it and with teary eyes he told me “yes but why do I feel like crying?!” I think it was the first time ever he felt touched by a song and couldn’t understand it… he was happy but felt the tears.. it was such a sweet moment!! 🥰
You should definitely post your reaction to "For The First Time." It was my favorite song on the track, and Halle's vocals are unmatched.
Damn, I cry every time I watch Part of Your World. It's so good.
Halle is just * chefs kiss* She's soooo good. She was the perfect Ariel and I wish more people gave her a chance to prove herself.
Girl you SHOULD go to the theatre to see this! You won't be disappointed
Literally gives me shivers
I'm so glad she was chosen as Ariel, she's pure magic 🥺💖
Btw, Jonah Hauer-King as prince Eric was SO AMAZING, we totally need your reaction to his song!!
Hiiiii im so glad to see you react again! Take care of yourself and have a great day 💚
love this! Halle was soooo good as Ariel I cried
pls react to Poor Unfortunate Souls, Wild Uncharted Waters and For The First time (the new songs) as well as the reprises of Part of Your World!
It's the first time a film has made me so smitten with someone's voice and acting.
i saw this the day it came in cinemas and can honestly say it was the best birthday present EVER!!! can't wait for it to be on disney/dvd
I’ve watched it four times in theaters it made me cry every time
These videos give me life. Please continue Schmigadoon!
i know, girl. this movie had me crying not stop with the most gorgeous moments it gave everything i wanted and then some
Go watch it in theaters it’s a MUST !!!! It’s super good !!!
AHH YES IM SO EXCITED YOU DID IT!! IVE BEEN WAITING!!
A tear ran down my cheek
Hannah you NEED to react to the full movie now that its out!
Yes!!
Now we need the full movie reaction!!! It will be a Hannah-spectacular!
Hannah’s reaction to the live action Flounder and Sebastian has me cackling 😭😭
We need to see your reaction to more songs from the little mermaid please!!
6:13 same😭 when I was in the theater I was this close 🤌🏼 to sobbing cuz it was so beautiful...
You should really check out her and her sisters tiny desk performances. Chloe and Halle pleaseeee
For a second I thought you meant Ariel's sisters rather than Chloe and Halle, and I was trying to remember when they had desks in the movie! 😆
I’m praying she sees this because that performance was sooo gooddd
the part of your world scene already makes me so mesmerized but the part of your world reprise always makes me cry
So excited to watch this Hannah!!
the movie is already availabe on disney+!!!
i just watched the movie today and most of the time i was like "HANNAH'S GONNA LOVE THIS" 😂😂
Halle did such a wonderful job in this role. ❤
Halle is AMAZING! Her performance reminded me of Sierra Boggess who was Ariel in the Original Broadway cast. Both singers are just GORGEOUS!
Eric & Scuttle both have songs in this new movie! Scuttle's is more of a joke song I think considering she's played by Akwafina but I would love to see your reaction to "Wild Uncharted Waters" and "The Scuttlebutt"
Part of Your World made me cry when I saw it in theater. It's so gorgeous.
Its always a good day when I see that you posted ❤
Hannah I just wanna say thank you - your genuine awe brought out my own. I’ve seen this movie twice now in theaters and my inner critic is trying to drown out my inner child but this video helped with that ❤ I love little mermaid so much my whole life and Hallie was the spirit of Ariel 💯
I think you should react to the part of your world reprises BECAUSE they add so much to the story and are GORGEOUS as standalone songs
100% gotta react to poor unfortunate souls. the leading ladies in this film absolutly smashed it with the music
She's so amazing as Ariel I can't wait for you to hear Malissa Mcarthy ( sorry if I spelled her name wrong) sing poor unfortunate souls
when i saw it in theaters on opening day, i walked into there knowing halle's version front to back because it dropped days before and i was still bawling seeing it on screen. it's so incredibly beautiful i get chills every time
Please review her song “Angel”. It’s phenomenal
food for thought! when she sings mooOOOOooOOOOoorrree and she goes from chest to head voice...I think that method of singing emphasizes her youth which is really important to the story and her wanting literally more in life (coming of age trope!) It kind of sounds like her voice is cracking which reminds the audience she's still a young teen who is full of dreams but not experience.
You should do all of the songs in the movie!! They are all so so good. The whole movie is genuinely a masterpiece and the visuals are just crazy.
I wasn't crazy about Halle as Ariel at first... Then she opened her mouth and I had goosebumps within .00002464 seconds. 😅 Incredible. 😍
Omg yes. I weep every time I hear Halle sing 🥹
That sock, or whatever is on the mic is adorable!!
I hated the original when I was a kid but I liked the live action so much better. It was so good 😭
They actually talked about the hair and her skin tone and how the hair stylist was wanting to make sure it complimented her skin instead of washing her out like apparently it looked when they changed it to a more vibrant red.
